Do you want an IPad but can't afford one?

My kids have all wanted IPads but who can afford those little $700 things? I can't. But today I found a cheap alternative. It is the Pandigital 7 inch Android tablet for less than $90. I bought 2 of them today. Not sure how long they will be this price, if it is just for today or if it going to remain this cheap. But if you can't afford an IPad and your kids want one, this is a wonderful alternative. You can actually go to you tube and watch reviews of it. Just go to you tube and search "Pandigital 7 inch tablet review" there are several on there.

It has it's own app and games market like the droids and IPhone have.

Just wanted to share my great Black Friday find with you.

I have a cheap android tablet thing that sucks with them is hardly any apps out there for them... they are good for surfing the web on the couch but I'd much rather an iPad. I have an iTouch and I'd love to be able to play games on the iPad just like the iTouch...

I bought myself the 7" Pan Digital tablet last year on QVC. I wanted an iPad but I wasn't willing to pay $800. So I thought this brand would be a great alternative. As soon as I got it in my hands I wasn't happy. Very bulky and awkward to hold. The battery wouldn't last long. I'd charge it over night, start reading a book the next morning, and within 2 hours it needed another charge. Hooking it up to my Wifi was easy, but the browser was very slow. It took minutes just to load one page. Downloading books was easy, but actually reading the books was a pain. Even flipping the pages was difficult, I had you push down hard to get the page to turn. After a few days I sent it back for a full refund. Then I read the reviews on QVC for this brand and others had the same problem.

Here's the mixed reviews on QVC

I ended up buying the iPad 2 when the price came down. I'm much happier. My sister just got the Kindle Fire she wanted something smaller and of course with the $199 price totally worth it.

It depends on your Android device. You will have a much better variety of apps on a Transformer or Xoom then on a lower end model.

And there's the rub. With Apple (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, etc) you know what you are going to get. There are two versions of the iPad and three different sizes. That's it! They all do the same thing.

With Android you have a ton of different manufactures making them (Motorola, Asus, Acer, etc) and they all make them in different price ranges. That is fantastic when it comes to price shopping, but it can be very misleading.

Now that being said I have an iPad, Android Xoom and an HP Touchpad. Out of those three devices I use my iPad 90% of the time. But my first tablet was an iPad, so that has a lot to do with it.

Your best bet when it comes to any device is to read the reviews.

Good luck!

I have no idea what I have... dh is the tech person here... I just know I like my iTouch and want a big one to take to bed with me and play angry birds :rolleyes1;)

Actually it has more to do with the Android OS available for the tablet than anything else.

I honestly wouldn't by any Android tablet unless it supports Honeycomb (OS 3.0) because the functionality of that is so much nicer (even than the iOS)

I read all the reviews from ppl who bought them on the Amazon reviews site under the item description. The biggest complaint was that it is heavy. But if you watch the video reviews of it on You Tube you will see exactly how it works, and they demonstrate for you how easy it is to touch the screen and swipe from page to page. I can understand there can be bad products in every bunch but I saw with my own eyes how it operates and what it is about before I bought it.

And if you ROOT IT you can have access to the FULL Android marketplace. However, know that if you ROOT IT, if I am not mistaken it will void your warranty. And I bought the 2 year Square Trade warranty for each unit I bought because it covers drops and spills. The 2 most common accident that ruins electronics.

One of these I bought was for an 11 year old who has never had an IPad so she has nothing to compare it to. She will love it. The other one I bought was for my 26 yr old son who has wi-fi at his house but no computer. It will serve it's purpose for web browsing and Facebooking.

In most cases you get what you pay for so if you pay less than $100 for a tablet you are not going to get an IPad quality tablet. Just know that going in. But for those of you who want an IPad and can't afford one, this is a great alternative. If you can afford a Xoom or an IPad to begin with, then just buy those. No need to buy the cheap one and think it's crappy and send it back. Buy the best you can afford from the get go. But for someone who has 4 kids and they all want an IPad. You can't beat this deal.

HAHA! My brothers kids are addicted to that game!

I don't know much about the Kindle Fire since it just came out. My niece is addicted to Angry Birds so I bought her one for Christmas. But from what I have read it is currently the most affordable tablet on the market that can compete with the higher end Android tablets.

The whole thing with HP dropping their Touchpads to $150 during the fire sale opened a lot of companies eyes. Even the non-techie people would like to have tablets.....if they were AFFORDABLE! So I think you will start to see more companies making affordable tablets that aren't garbage.

One HUGE difference when looking at anything touchscreen is resistive or capacitive touchscreen. You really want to stay away from resistive screens.

Depending on the hardware you can always upgrade to Honeycomb or even downgrade to Gingerbread if you would like. Again, depending on good the hardware is and what it can support.

Although that debate is kinda like what came first, the chicken or the egg.

But Gingerbread was/is a great Android OS. I know a number of people who were very unhappy with Honeycomb and downgraded to Gingerbread. But I think Honeycomb has had a number of improvements since it first arrived.

And if you get into rooting, there is a lot more you can get for your money. But that is an entirely different subject.

I just got an iphone 4s. Needed that like a new hole in the head. Let the impulse get to me.

However I found out I can still use the old 3s except to make phone calls. It has become my cheap Nook reader,Kindle too if I load that App on it. Like my wife said. If you have an iphone you don't need an Ipad.

Just wanted to throw that in. It isn't your case.

you CAN make calls on the old iphone... there is an app out there for that! You can also text on it for free. ;) You'll need wifi for it but you CAN do it.

No comparison in my book. Give me the ipad or don't give me anything. One of those cheap "alternatives" doesn't even come close.

Dawn

I would like a tablet, but I refue to buy any Apple products. Can't stand that cmpany. Anyways a cheap altrnative would work just fine for me. I do have a Nook color that I adore. :lovestruc

Helene, I have both an iPad and iPhone. I like them for different reasons and purposes. I love to use the iPad for web surfing and shopping and watching Netflix. I also prefer to read on the iPad. Some games are better or easier to see on the iPad. The iPhone is great when I'm out and about but it's harder to type on and I prefer the bigger iPad at home. Plus I only have the wifi iPad so can't surf unless I'm in a wifi spot and a lot of the free wifi spots are slow.

My 17 month old has his own iPod (3rd gen) and can work any iDevice without any help whatsoever.
