Do you want a bag for that?

Is this a new trend?

Whether it's Wawa or CVS, I'm asked if I want a bag for the 5 or 6 items that I just bought.

I appreciate the need to save on the environment with less plastic bags floating around, but come on.

I'm talking about several items that I will no doubt drop on the way from the store door to my parked car if not placed in a bag of some sort.

Yes, I do want a bag for that! Thank you. :rolleyes1

I had someone at the grocery store ask me the other day - paper or plastic? When I said plastic, she said "as you wish." Now, unless you're a genie, my choice of bags is not a wish, it's my choice based on what your store offers.

A grocery store Genie, I could use one of them! ;)

Yeah, I don't mind not having a bag for things like gallons of water that have a handle to carry, but for most everything else I want a bag. I almost feel like I am stealing it if I don't carry it out in a bag!

Also, why do they insist on putting my 8 pack of Gatorades on the side edge of the shopping basket??? For those they never even ask me if I want them in the bag. They just hook them on the side of the cart and then I have trouble getting them back off again out at the car.

I tell them no I don't need a bag but you might since you are carrying it out to the car for me.

I hate that. My neighborhood convenience store does that too. If I have 1 item, that's one thing, but if I have 5 or 6 things, come on! I feel guilty for some reason when I say yes.

Funny you should bring this up, Blondie. I went into CVS this morning to buy a chapstick. No bag was offered. I was handed the chapstick with the receipt wrapped around it. I was so befuddled by it that I just left. The problem is, I need a bag for a chapstick as I was carrying my work catch-all bag (read - abyss) and there is no way I could put the chapstick in there and ever expect to find it again. To solve the dilemma I put it in my pocket (another bad idea) and immediately removed it and placed it on my computer at work. It will live here for all eternity and I will purchase another chapstick for my bag. :confused3

Maybe they're trying to save some $$$$?

Good thread! I never get offered a bag when I buy toilet paper and 1/2 gallon sized milk jugs. I always have to ask for a bag for the TP because they keep those behind the register. The other bags are within grabbing distance so I take a few. I guess they treat 1/2 gallon jugs same as gallon jugs, but I hate having to carry individual items, or having to put them in my car that way.

I always have to ask for a bag at Blockbuster, too.

Also, I hate it when I go to the drive-thru by myself and they hand me two or more drinks to carry. Uh ... I'll be needing my hands to drive ... can I get a drink carrier, please?

Rant over.

You all need to come on down to the Wal-Mart by my house. I swear they give you one bag PER ITEM!!! I come home with about 20 bags per trip!

Tracy

I'm always glad when they ask as I prefer not to have a bag if it can be helped.

This reminds me of a local comedian who does a bit about cashiers asking if he needs a bag. His answer: "No, I'm good, I just juggle stuff." :lmao:

LOL! :rotfl:

If it's one or two things(last store outing was for a fashion magazine and a bottle of pepsi) no bag needed and sometimes I have to tell the bagger thanks but no thanks

I'll have to remember that one! :rotfl: I haven't had this happen often unless I only have one or two items, but I rarely go to CVS or other stores like that. I'll have to go soon so I can use that line! :thumbsup2

Now I hate drink carriers while in my car as drinks I order never fit in freaken drink carrier right anyway and I have to take them out of carrier to put them in cup holder anyway.

I laughed when I read the drink carrier comment. Everytime I go to the Mcdonalds drive-thru to get lunch for three of my co-workers (four drinks all together), the worker starts handing me the cups individually and everytime I ask for a drink carrier, the worker just stares at me for a couple of seconds with a dumbfounded look on her face. I laugh but I am easily amused :)

I like the fact that they are asking rather than just giving you a bag you may or may not need. If you want a bag, say yes; if not, say no. Doesn't seem complicated. Not sure why somebody would be bothered being asked a simple question.

:rotfl: If it's more than a couple of bags, I always have them carry it out. The cost of the service is built in, so I use it.

It's not complicated. I don't think I should have to ask for a bag when I just purchased a bottle of shampoo, a bottle of hair conditioner, a large bag of M&M's, & a pkg. of 4 rolls of toilet paper. Seems simple that I would need something to carry them out of the store in, no? Maybe next time I'll just pile them up on my head! :rotfl:

Go for it! :rotfl:

I'd rather have the bagger start to put them in a bag and then if I don't need and want the bag, I can decline.
