thinking IF we keep our standard view at the WL it may not matter as much since it will be Aug (maybe Im just trying to talk myself into it!)
This is our 1st time going in the summer and Im thinking that when we're back at the room I may want to grab a chair outside the room in the public air-conditioned hallways and not use the balcony as much. When I really want a view I can go down the pool/lake

Only in the evenings, and with plenty of mosquito repellant. Disney is actually pretty good about keeping the mosquito population to a minimum, but it is Florida and those pesky little things can be anywhere!

My DH runs every morning so I sit on it very early in the morning and we sit on it again in the evening. Sometimes I'll sit on it in the afternoon when the kids are napping. We've always had a marina view at GF and I love watching from the balcony - this time we're getting a lagoon view so I really can't wait to be sitting out there, sipping a drink and hopefully watching the fireworks!

We were at WL room #5030 the week that Francis hit. Great view of the fireworks, castle (you have to look between the trees) and monorail. We were never able to go out on the balcony after the sun went down because there were so many bugs flying around-especially if you had the light on in your room. We experienced many frogs or toads on the sliding glass doors but the funniest was the poor dragon fly that got in (boy they can move fast and make alot of noise). It was just me and my DS and the dragonfly was on the ceiling and my son would be standing on the bed trying to catch it with the trash can and a tray. What a site. :rotfl: The whole time I just kept saying "don't hurt it" because their supposed to be good luck or something-who knows :confused3 Anyway, mornings are a goodtime to spend on your balcony with a cup of coffee. :wave2:

We don't really use the balcony at all since we are so busy doing stuff all the time. WHen we do go back to our hotrl room in August it is either for a rest in the middle of the day, in which case the a/c is veeeeeeery welcome or it is at night to go to sleep ready for another fun packed disney day.

From June to September we rarely sit out on the balcony. When considering the standard view at the WL, think of "noise." Depending upon where you're assigned, the ouside noise may be a bit distracting. We once had a room on the north side of the building and every morning we heard delivery trucks beeping as they backed up. Ask for a room that will be relatively quiet. :)

We use our balcony/patio alot, no matter what time of year. In fact, I think I got the most use out of it during an August trip to the Poly where the A/C was set at frigid..... I love sitting outside & soaking in the sights, smells & sounds of WDW......

A balcony is very important to us. We like to sit out in the morning and especially in the evening while we enjoy a beer or glass of wine.

Whatever you do, do NOT accept a room in the main building. We stayed at WL last December and had a room on the sixth floor in the main building. The noise from the lobby is incredible! It drifted right up to the sixth floor and in to our room. The restaurant in the main lobby (I believe its called Whispering Canyon) is a constant din from early morning to about 9-10 pm. They have children's games, stick horse races, etc. The restaurant itself is not enclosed and is, essentially, part of the lobby. I got flamed so bad for posting this before that the board had to be closed, however, that's my opinion based on my experience and I do believe others are entitled to know about my experience to make their own decisions. For the money we paid we didn't expect to be made miserable listening to that constant din all day long! We were there at Christmas time and most of our activities were at night, such as MVMCP, Osbourne Lights, etc. We preferred to sleep in since we would be up late at night. Well, that was simply impossible with that restaurant. Like I said, we were on the sixth floor and the noise was intrusive. I pity the people with rooms directly over the restaurant. You would think Disney wouldn't structure their property in such a manner. However, I have read good things about WL if you get a room in one of the wings, just don't get a room in the main lobby building and you'll be fine.

We use the balcony all the time. We usually go in August. Love to sit out there first thing in the a.m. before much resort activity and have my cup of coffee and read the paper. After that it's go, go, go :cheer2:

I think using the balcony has alot to do with the time of year you visit. When I stayed at the BW in October we used our balcony alot. In July at the Polynesian is was just to muggy to sit out there and be comfortable.
