Do you use the handicapped stall?

almost seems like it was bumped up just to get some digs in at certain poster :sad2:

I hope the certain poster just laughs it off. I can see searching through someone's old posts to get a "feel" of who they are, but to bump up a year old thread to get digs in...someone should go watch the Puppy Bowl instead!:rotfl:

It must be cold at the Puppy Bowl this year. The cheerleaders are all wearing their winter coats.

I use the biggest stall there is and need it too lol

I use the hadicap stall if no other is available, but I don't see the hadicap stall as being reserved for handicaps only, just handicap acessible.

This afternoon, I went to the diner for lunch with a friend, and go to use the restroom. I walked in, and there are 3 stalls, 2 regular stalls, and one handicapped stall. The 2 regular stalls were taken, so I went into the handicapped stall. While I was in there, the people in the regular stalls come out and I guess a handicapped person came in.

Anyway, I go out, and the handicapped woman starts yelling at me, that I should have used the other 2 stalls and left the handicapped stall free. I told her when I came in, she wasn't in the bathroom, the other 2 stalls were taken. She is basically screaming at me that I should have left it open just in case somebody who needed it walked in. I wasn't going to get into a screaming match with her, so I just washed my hands and said the stall is free now. If you need to go that badly, you can go ahead.

Now, I know people could be having bad days, and I want to give her the benefit of the doubt, but come on! I wasn't even in there that long! What was I supposed to do? Walk out in the middle of peeing once I heard the other people leave the regular stall? Or just leave that stall open just in case a handicapped person comes in? If we had come into the bathroom at the same time, I would have let her use it, but she wasn't there when I got to the bathroom, so where is the problem?

You were right and I would have done the same as you did. The handicap stall is designated as ACCESSIBLE not reserved for handicapped only. She was being a jerk. Besides, there are plenty of people who are not in wheelchairs who need that stall too. I have a friend with serious knee problems who needs to use the handicap stall but doesn't use a wheelchair.

Oh, rats. I keep forgetting I don't want to comment in such an old thread. Ah, well - off to delete it from my subscribed threads...

LOL be careful, you might get labeled a troll for replying to such an old one.

Personally, I think it's first-come first-serve UNLESS there is a handicapped person waiting for the bathroom in line. In that case, that person should go ahead of everyone else once the handicapped bathroom opens up.

This is what I feel as well. Same goes for the handicapped urinal in the men's rooms. I'm not going to stand in line and leave a perfectly good stall or urinal open if that is the only one available and unless I am having some sort of emergency I would allow someone who needs the handicapped facility to cut in front of me if it opens up before another.

Now I am going to go back and read the flames that I am sure erupted after the first page. This should be good.

for the record, HIV CANNOT BE TRANSMITTED THROUGH GENERAL CONTACT... unless you are having intercourse or sharing needles in those public places, you cannot spread HIV/AIDS. generally the same is true for most forms of hepatitis... but the flu can be deadly and that is airborne, etc... I get your point, but do not agree with your choice of diseases

And we have the new attractions going into the Wonders of Life pavilion. :thumbsup2

I was surprised at how long it took to get mean. And then I was equally surprised it was such an old thread. I guess you got me.

FireDancer & Magic Mom, thanks for the explanations. Appreciate it. And yes, you're not alone, it's not easy to grin & bear some things. Sometimes things people post are so infuriating, so hard to keep cool.

Have a great week.

I know I'm going to be shot for this but here goes. If you or anyone have a disability that creates a situation where other, non related individuals must bow down to your individual needs...you do not belong there. If you have a bowel problem that causes a situation were your needs outweigh that of another individual then, there is a good chance that you do not belong there.

Many people have disabilities and within those disabilities there are certain restrictions. If, for example, you are paraplegic you have to accept that there is a good chance that you are not going to be able to walk. You have to accept that and adjust your life around that disability. I know we are only talking about bathroom needs here but it still applies. If you cannot control your bowels or bladder than, yes I'm going to say it, you should not be at a public place like WDW. You are a walking avenue of possible contamination that will effect many, many people that you do not even know.

I am sorry that you cannot conform to the extent that is required to fit into a public place, but you cannot. A theme park, is not the place for you unless you have, in place, a system that will not require the sacrifice of others to accommodate your needs. There is a huge difference between willingness to help someone and requirement to help someone.

Karma. What goes around, comes around. Maybe one day you will have a condition, like many of us have, and you'll have to either stay home yourself like you recommend the rest of us do, or you'll have to eat your words.

I suffered from IBS for 10 years of my life, before I finally figured out what was causing it. During those 10 years I did not stay home like you think I should. But many times I had to rush to find a bathroom. One time I had to walk to the store and by the time I got there I really needed to go. Now. The restrooms were each just for one person. Someone was in the ladies room, and another waiting. But the men's room was open. I could not wait. I used the men's room and on my way out there was a man waiting. I simply said "sorry" and went on my way. You probably feel I should have waited for the ladies room to open up, or better yet just stayed home.

Now, since I discovered what my problem was (gluten/wheat) I rarely ever have to rush to find the bathroom. But there are more and more people suffering from IBS all the time, it's sad to think you feel they should stay home. :sad2:

I use the handicap stall if it is empty and there are no obvious handicapped people around...especially if I have my DD's with me. No way we are all fitting into a small stall.

I'm like the OP-- I'll use it if all of the other ones are taken, but only then.

I'll use it when ever it's open, unless there is a handicapped person waiting.

I use it. They often have changing tables in there, it has more room and is very convenient when you have a small child in tow. Some of the stalls are so small you can't get yourself and a child in them without being very uncomfortable
