Do you use the brand name?

Here in the south, everything is a brand name. :rotfl:

I do use Xerox as a verb, though, and not a noun. I say, "I need to xerox 40 copies of this." I refer to the product as "copies" but to the process as "xeroxing."

Band Aids or Adhesive bandages? Brand name, but not necessary BandAid

Q-tips or Cotton Swabs? Whatever's on sale or the best value when I need them

Xerox or copies? Copies - I don't specifically go looking for a Xerox-manufactured machine to do the work

Tylenol or Aspirin (Tylenol is actually acetominophen)? prescription ketaprophen - with the possible exception of heart attack prevention, THIS is what works for me for pain, and it's fine with my physicians; it's really just a strong ibuprophen, formerly available OTC

Advil/Motrin or Ibuprofen? prescription ketaprophen - with the possible exception of heart attack prevention, THIS is what works for me for pain, and it's fine with my physicians; it's really just a strong ibuprophen, formerly available OTC

Kleenex or Tissues? Usually Puffs, sometimes Kleenex, occasionally generic - but I like the quality of certain name brands (especially when Puffs has the menthol-infused version in winter!)

Ziplock or baggies? The sturdiest bag with the best dimensions AND the best zipper seal
*By the way, I'm relatively certain Baggies IS a brand name ;)

Scotch tape? or tape? Scotch tape - the quality is just SO superior

Jacuzzi? hot tub? Tough one - as far as I know, a Jacuzzi is an indoor (or outdoor) actual combo, used for both relaxation and bathing, while a hot tub is an outdoor, multi-person relaxation unit in which one very likely WOULDN'T use soap :teeth:

Vaseline? or petroleum jelly? Quality seems pretty consistent - whatever's the best price in the jar, but only Vaseline in the tube.

Post-Its? stickies Post-its - another quality issue; I just don't trust the generics.

soda? soda, unless it is Coke or Pepsi, then by the brand Soda? What is this "soda" of which you speak? Do you mean soda water, as what is typically mixed with Scotch? Or do you mean any carbonated flavored beverage - what we 'in the know' refer to as tonic? :rotfl2: Tonic, or Diet Dr Pepper

------
Jell-O or gelatin? Jell-o again, quality

Cool Whip or whipped topping? referred to as Cool-Whip, but ONLY because "whipped topping is the stuff in the cans, th stuff that claims it's whipped cream. What I USE is the stuff in the cans. Sometimes right out of the can, onto a spoon :)

Wite Out to mean any correction fluid? referred to as Wite-out, when I used it (would you believe now I don't make mistakes? Yeah, I didn't think so. It was a nice try.
KoolAid to mean any flavored sweet drink that isn't soda? Nope - specific product name

Lazy Boy instead of recliner? Recliner instead of La-Zy-Boy, actually.

Tupperware when referring to any food storage container? We never used Tupperware growing up, so I NEVER got in the habit of mislabeling similar products. We used empty butter tubs and the like.
Levis or jeans?

Crockpot for any slowcooker? FlipFlop - I know CrockPot is the brand name, and try to refer to mine as a slow cooker, but sometimes ya forget... but I know the difference.

Dixie cups (the little paper bathroom cups)
Pop Tarts
Saran wrap
Reynolds wrap

Bolded & colored my answers
When referring to certain items, even if it is the generic version or NOT that name brand? Do you call them:

Band Aids or Adhesive bandages?

Q-tips or Cotton Swabs?

Xerox or copies?

Tylenol or Aspirin (Tylenol is actually acetominophen)? Tylenol when I am looking for acetaminophen. Aspirin when I am referring to aspirin.

Advil/Motrin or Ibuprofen?

Kleenex or Tissues?

Ziplock or baggies?

Just curious. Feel free to add more if you can think of any others!

Jacuzzi is a manufacturer of hot tubs, but you seem to have missed the point. The question wasn't do you buy generics or name brands. I asked what you call the item regardless of manufacturer.

Band Aids or Adhesive bandages? Band Aids

Q-tips or Cotton Swabs? Q-Tips

Xerox or copies? copies

Tylenol or Aspirin (Tylenol is actually acetominophen)? Tylenol, if it's Tylenol and aspirin if it's aspirin.

Advil/Motrin or Ibuprofen? Ibuprofen

Kleenex or Tissues? tissues

Ziplock or baggies? baggies

Scotch tape? scotch tape (If you just say tape it could be masking tape or something. How would you specify what kind of tape? My kids say sticky tape.)

Jacuzzi? hot tub

Vaseline? vaseline

Post-Its? sticky note

soda? pop. We call coke- coke, pepsi- pepsi, etc.

------
Jell-O or gelatin? Jell-O

Cool Whip or whipped topping? whipped cream no matter how fake it is.:rotfl:

Wite Out to mean any correction fluid? Wite Out

KoolAid to mean any flavored sweet drink that isn't soda? No, we use specific names

Lazy Boy instead of recliner? recliner

Tupperware when referring to any food storage container? Yes

Levis or jeans? jeans

Crockpot for any slowcooker? Crockpot

Pampers or diapers? diapers

I once heard someone call crayons- Crayolas. I thought that was strange.

Band Aids
Q-tips
Xerox
Tylenol
Motrin
Tissues
baggies

I say soda- I usually only drink Diet Mountain Dew or Diet Dr. Pepper though

I know people who say Ipod for any MP3 player

I say Cell phone but know people who say Mobile phone
I say Laptop not Notebook
I say chicken nuggets regardless of what fast food place I'm at
My kids say spaghetti for type of pasta

I say copies, not Xerox--it used to be mimeographs though :lmao: I tend to use brand names for most things. To me a Jaccuzi is an indoor jetted bathtub and a hot tub is one that is used outside. People around her generally use the term "jeans" vs Levi's unless the pants happen to be Levi's.

I think I intermix baggies and Ziplocks but Baggies is actually a brand name too. We use baggies (the non-ziplock type) for walking the dog and use Ziplocs for food storage.

The coke thing to me is funny--"I'll have a Coke" "What kind" "Dr. Pepper" :lmao: Around here it is just Pop.

Band-Aid
Q-tips
Ziploc (I buy Hefty Slide loc, but still call is Ziplocs on my grocery list.)
Copies
Tylenol
Advil
Excedrin (for migraines)
Vaseline
Pampers instead of just diapers
Windex for glass cleaner
Scotch Tape for any tape
White-out
Crystal Lite for any sugar free drink powder

DH and I used to say "Coke/diet Coke" when ordering soda (even though he's a diet Pepsi drinker and I'm a Coke drinker). But lately we've changed that to just "soda" since we don't know what the restaurant we are at carries.

Reynolds Wrap (I never say aluminum foil)
Jello (however, Jello pudding is just pudding)
Pam for any cooking spray

Band Aids or Adhesive bandages?

Q-tips or Cotton Swabs?

Xerox or copies?

Tylenol
or Aspirin (Tylenol is actually acetominophen)?

Advil/Motrin or Ibuprofen?

Kleenex or Tissues?

Ziplock or baggies?

Wow.. I guess I never realized that I used name brands so much!! I will use generic stuff but I guess I feel like the name brand will be more reliable (completely untrue in some cases though!)

I say Pam for cooking spray, although I switched to generic a few years ago.

My mom calls all feminine hygiene products Kotex, but I just call them pads or tampons. Mom said Pampers instead of diapers too. What was really funny was she would refer to them in the singular. "I think the baby has a wet pamper." LOL

I call all plastic wrap Saran Wrap, although I don't think I've ever actually used that brand. :lmao:

Band Aids
Q-tips
Copies
Tylenol
Ibuprofen
Kleenex
Ziplock

And...
White-Out (instead of liquid paper)

Weird...I never realized how much I do that.

Band Aids or Adhesive bandages?
Band Aid

Q-tips or Cotton Swabs?
Q-Tips the others are not usable imho so why even speak of them:rotfl2:

Xerox or copies? Making Copies!

Tylenol or Aspirin (Tylenol is actually acetominophen)?
depends on what I need but I do usually refer to all medications by the brand name
Advil/Motrin or Ibuprofen?
See above

Kleenex or Tissues?
Tissue

Ziplock or baggies?
Ziploc Bag. But I do use ziploc- if I had a glad bag I would say Glad -

I think the "Coke = all soda" thing is a southern thing, isn't it?

Yes, it is! My friends in IL laugh when I occasionally ask a waiter "what kind of cokes do you have?" I called every soda, "Coke." I use brand-names for nearly all the things the OP listed.

Band Aids or Adhesive bandages? Band Aids

Q-tips or Cotton Swabs? Q-tips (though I do buy Q-Tip brand I think)

Xerox or copies? Copies

Tylenol or Aspirin (Tylenol is actually acetominophen)? Tylenol (but I do buy name-brand Tylenol as I'm super weird about generic OTC drugs)

Advil/Motrin or Ibuprofen? Advil--see above

Kleenex or Tissues? Kleenex

Ziplock or baggies? Ziplocs

Band Aids or Adhesive bandages? Band Aids
Q-tips or Cotton Swabs? Q-Tips
Xerox or copies? copies
Tylenol or Aspirin (Tylenol is actually acetominophen)? Advil/Motrin or Ibuprofen? Lumping these together because I say "pain reliever" if I don't know or don't care what kind it is. If I know what brand it is, I call it whatever it actually is. Advil if it's Advil. Acetominophen if it's geneneric acetominophen, etc. Oh, and did you know that Aspirin was originally a brand name for acetylsalicylic acid?
Kleenex or Tissues? tissues
Ziplock or baggies? plastic bags. (Yes, Baggies is a brand name, to whoever brought that up.)
Scotch tape? tape
Jacuzzi? I know Jacuzzi is a brand name, but I say Jacuzzi for the jetted bath tub and hot tub for the big outdoor kind.
Vaseline? vaseline
Post-Its? Just got in the habit of saying sticky notes. At first, Post-It was the only kind, so that's what I called them.
soda? Soda if I'm talking about a variety. Specific band name if I'm talking about what I'm actually buying or drinking.
Jell-O or gelatin? Jello
Cool Whip or whipped topping? Cool whip
Wite Out to mean any correction fluid? White out (or white-out tape)
KoolAid to mean any flavored sweet drink that isn't soda? I call these by name
Lazy Boy instead of recliner? recliner
Tupperware when referring to any food storage container? plastic container
Levis or jeans? Jeans. I've never them called Levi's, although we got even more specific when I was in high schoo/college(??) and would refer to our Levi 501s as just "501s")
Crockpot for any slowcooker? crockpot
Pampers or Diapers?? diapers
Dixie cups (the little paper bathroom cups) dixie cups
Pop Tarts pop tarts
Saran wrap plastic wrap
Reynolds wrap aluminum foil

Cool Whip or whipped topping? referred to as Cool-Whip, but ONLY because "whipped topping is the stuff in the cans, th stuff that claims it's whipped cream. What I USE is the stuff in the cans. Sometimes right out of the can, onto a spoon :)
Why use a spoon? ;) I don't personally like whipped cream, but if I did, I'd cut out the middle man. :rotfl2:

The coke thing to me is funny--"I'll have a Coke" "What kind" "Dr. Pepper" :lmao: Around here it is just Pop.
Me, too. I don't get that. I order what I want. "I'll have a Diet Coke", or "a small Mountain Dew, please." If I don't know what brand you have, I might say, "I'll have a Diet Coke. ...or Diet Pepsi, whatever you have". I guess I could say "I'll have a diet cola", why don't I do that? :confused3 :rotfl:

Do you Google or do you use an internet search engine?

Frisbee or flying disc?

Speedo or banana hammock?

Do you Google or do you use an internet search engine?

Frisbee or flying disc?

Speedo or banana hammock?
I Google, but I really DO Google! Otherwise, I "look it up in [fill in name of actual search engine used]"

Neither, I'm too old (I do yo-yo, though - at least I will when I figure out how to turn off the sound!)

And - ugh! Neither. Those simply don't exist in my rose-colored world :rotfl2:
