We are Deluxe resort/monorail junkies! Our favorite place is GF but I can't afford to keep staying there like we do. We do WDW every year so DVC seems like a no brainer except that we always want to stay at GF! Is DVC an option if we want to stay on the monorail with an MK view?
Any comments are welcome......

Well the cheapiest a week could be there(GF lagoon View) would be value season and its 412Points. Holiday season is 611 Points for a week. Those contracts are about 35,000 -55,000$. Depending on which resort. So in my opinion I don't think that is a very good value. But if you were going to do that every once in a while then it might still be a good idea.

I would not suggest buying DVC just to plan on using it at the GF. While you may save a bit of money as opposed to paying cash, there is no guarantee that it would stay that way as time goes on. DVC could increase the amount of points needed for a stay at the GF any time they want, and it could reach a point that the number of points required could make it more costly for you to use points.

You best value for using DVC is at a DVC resort (you can get three or more nights in a studio at one of the DVC resorts for the number of points needed for a one night stay at the GF). The DVC resorts are great and each have their own pros and cons. You could probably stay in one bedroom (maybe even a two bedroom) at a DVC resort for the price you are paying at the GF.

I would not purchase DVC in order to use it at WDW resorts that are not DVC resorts. There is very little value associated with such use.

The point counts for the GF are very high. There is going to be (if there isn't already) a fee added by DVC for booking outside the DVC resorts. And if you are interested in the dining plan, there is no way to get it if you book a regular WDW resort with DVC points. That option is available only to package bookings, or to DVC members who book DVC resorts on points.

If you wanted DVC, a better option would be to stay at the GF with a cash reservation on Friday and Saturday nights (when point counts are higher) and move to a DVC resort for weekdays.

I agree with the above posters. Don't buy DVC to stay at regular WDW resorts. Buy DVC if you plan on staying at DVC resorts.

We'll still book a couple nights at a deluxe and/or moderate resort using the AP or AAA discount, whichever is less. But we use our points purely for DVC resorts.

well I wouldnt be quite as all or nothing as the previous posters
you mention you are deluxe resort/monorail junkies, does this mean only deluxe reosrts on the monorail?

I would not buy just to use at the GF,

HOWEVER, DVC does include AKV, BWV, BCV, and VWL. Although not on the monorail their regualr resort couterparts are all considered to be within the deluxe resort category.

Additionally, CR,is rumored to be having a DVC portion soon(so that may be your monorail deluxe)

If these fit your fancy, DVC would be perfect for you

you can still get your GF stays in every once in awhile and as a previous poster mentioned you can still stay fridays and saturdays since those are point expensive nights for dvc

GF only--no
deluxes, in general, with an occasional stay at GF -- definately

Starting in 2008, there will also be a $95 fee per reservation at non-DVC resorts.

Thanks! You guys are very informative.

What about the rumors of the Contemporary Resort adding DVC???????

DVC at CR is just a rumor. DVC has not made any announcements.

Many of the posters who like the deluxe resorts like the amenities that go with them, including daily housekeeping. Some are concierge fans and like the extra attention that is offered there.

Daily housekeeping is an additional charge in DVC resorts. In the AKV concierge level I believe (but am not positive) you will get daily housekeeping as part of the higher points required for that level villa.

DVC resorts offer a different vacation style from the deluxe rooms. We have stayed at both and enjoy both, but generally appreciate DVC's style more.

Keep in mind that along with the $95 transfer fee, the points required for a stay in the deluxe resorts can and do change each year. Therefore you lose the primary benefit of DVC' prepaid vacation element -- the fixed point schedule.
