Just curious how many of you use the collegen peptides? I watch a lot of youtube videos on my downtime and I see quite a lot of people using it saying its good for your joints and also your skin/hair/nails.

If you use it.......
1- what brand do you prefer
2- do you actual see a difference in your joints/hair/nails/skin
3- how long after you started using it, did you notice a difference
4- any pros/cons?

I tried, I saw no difference with anything. I used the Vital Proteins brand. My friend and her husband also tried it and nothing. I'm sure there are always people who do see something happen, just not anyone I know of personally.

1. No preference
2. No.
3. Used it for about 6 months, not difference
4. Pro--no taste really but a little bit. Cons -- expensive and no results.

No idea what these are but if their ads say something like................"not approved by FDA and isn't intended to treat/cure/prevent any disease" then probably a waste of money. Seems a LOT of supposedly health related products hide behind that legal mumbo jumbo to sell you something that is worthless.

There are snake oil salesmen out there.

But, I've been more let down by MDs than my functional medicine chiropractors who sell vitamins and products such as collagen.

Yet again, one of the chiropractor formulas has solved a long standing issue of mine the MDs dismissed.

I did try collagen years ago, but I prefer the benefits of colostrum powder over collagen.

I tried it for about a year and saw absolutely no difference. I don't know what brand I bought but I know it was Vital Proteins...I think that's the one promoted by Jennifer Aniston and I'm not a fan so I know I wouldn't buy anything where she would profit from my purchase.

Nope. Supplements are largely a scam and waste of money. I eat a variety of real food that provides what my body needs to make collagen and everything else it needs. I guess if I didn't ever eat meat, I might consider it. But I eat plenty of chicken and beef.

Everyone has their own take on this. Mine - I have no problem with my hair, skin, or nails. I do have a few joint and inflammation issues. I take fish oil and turmeric, some tart cherry juice. I don't push them on anyone, I feel good about using them.

I have been using orgain collagen peptides for close to 2 years. A scoop in my morning coffee, which I never fully finish. I can tell a huge difference in my skin. My skin was looking old - getting wrinkles and seemed thinner. Not anymore. It has plumped back out and looking younger.

I buy mine at Costco. Like $20 for a huge container when they run their sale every few months. I just stock up when it is on sale.

I will probably always use it. I have run it by my Dr and she has no issues with it.

I bought a jar of Vital Proteins a few weeks ago as I heard the collagen may be good for osteoporosis. Still haven't cracked the jar open yet.

I was recently gifted an Instant Pot. I've been making lots of bone broths, braised pork chops in which the braising liquid also becomes a broth, and hearty bone-in meat stews. All of them are rich in collagen and other nutrients. I am really loving tasting again old recipes my parents used to make when I was a child, when they spent most of a day simmering a soup or stew. The Instant Pot gets the meat falling off the bones and the bones themselves falling apart in about 2 hours.

I use Vital Proteins. I started using it for hair/skin/nails, and only recently realized it also has a nice amount of protein. It took maybe 3 months before I noticed a difference in my hair and nails. I get it at Costco.

I'm of both camps- I rely on diet first, but still take supplements. Turmeric is one I take, and is something I wouldn't get from my diet.

I have used collagen for years (I use Vital Proteins, but it has since been purchased by Nestle and I think people like it less now?) for the protein aspect. It doesn't have a taste and I can put it in my hot tea. It gives me a little "something" to feel fuller in the mornings.

I can't say it has helped my skin but my nails are noticeably stronger and grow longer.

I used vital proteins, marine collagen for about a year until I realized that it was doing absolutely nothing to help me. Wasted a lot of money, because those packets are not cheap and they taste horrible even mixed with juice, or something else.

Just FYI, if you require thyroid hormone for any reason, use of collagen supplements is contraindicated as it can interfere with absorption of the thyroid medication. (Doctors tend not to think to warn thyroid patients about this until their medication-managed thyroid levels suddenly get out of whack and they start looking for reasons why.)

😲 Thanks! I have to take thyroid meds & supplements 3 times a day.

Isn't gelatin same as collagen & couldn't you also get it from a long cooking meat based soup? Slow cooker Chicken Soup, slow cooker beef broth to French Onion, both yummy.

I don't get supplements, isn't it better & safer to just eat healthy?

I was watching a commercial for supplements with the bottles of tablets surrounded by lovely bright colors of fruits & veggies and wondered why not just have frozen if fresh is too $$$, drop fruit in a smoothie & veggies in an omelette or quiche. If having a supplement there is no telling where it came from, what was boiled down to make it and what other ghastly stuff is in it.
