Do you try to "Do It All" on every trip?

Besides restaurants and some shows we used to pretty much do it all. We've done some things more than enough now though so we just hit our favorites and whatever is new.

The first time? No. Magic Kingdom was the only park and it was 52 degrees. The second time? I had a beautiful touring plan and we accomplished so much I was thrilled. In fact, we got free tickets to AK before the park even opened for "dress rehearsals". Third time? Another slam dunk on the touring plan but, keep in mind, I never went with littles. It was tweens or adults only. Most recent trip? I have learned to lower my expectations. Slow times are not all that slow anymore. FP+ has increased standby wait times and Disney "wait times" have been very inaccurate. Not to mention, I am quite a bit older than my "model trip" in 1999.

I own DVC and have an AP and until 2 years ago went multiple times a year since 2005. Now I am adding other trips to my vacations and so go only 2 or 3 times a year for about a week each time. I have learned what I enjoy and when I go alone those are the only rides I do. No TSM, no space mountain jarring me around - though I do love EE and it multiple times. I add in other attractions depending on who goes with me. My trips with my DGD9 trips are very different than those with my DH from those with a friend. But I never go commando any more. I enjoy what comes along and get plenty of rest and enjoy the deluxe resorts I stay in as much as the parks. I also make time for a trip to visit Harry Potter - and used to stay 24/7 at WDW.

I think way back on my first trip, when it was just EP and MK, we did everything.

But no, we do not do everything, and we don't TRY to do everything. We are on vacation. We have no interest in some things, (Captain EO, Stitch) and other things just aren't worth stressing if we miss. We do have our list of favorites that we have to hit.

We do t even come close and we don't care. There's still a long list of things I haven't done after 3 trips.

We don't exactly try and do it all, but we definitely try to do as much as we can! This is our 5th year in a row going to WDW and we still haven't come even close to doing everything Disney offers. Each year we try and add something new to our itinerary and we make sure we fit in our favorite must do's!

Even on our very first trip, I knew there was no way we could do everything.

It's funny, this is what I was actually trying to "prove" at the time :) Disney insisted you needed 7 days to see the 3 parks and waterparks at the time (this was pre-DAK). I did it in 5 (maybe 4 - must find that notebook). But it came down to doing the Pleasure Island clubs until about 1:45am on my last day, so it was certainly a squeeze. But I was 19 at the time and needed significantly less sleep than I do now. No chance of a repeat at 37.

Enjoying everyone's responses. At this point I certainly relate to two distinct groups - the "let's relax" group and the "do what the kids want" group... though sadly those groups don't always intersect, lol.

Our trips are typically a full 2 weeks, so we do get a chance to do lots. I wouldn't say we plan to do everything. Our first couple of trips we had every minute planned out and tried to do as much as possible. Now we just take it as it comes other than ADR's and FP+ reservations. Our last trip was for 16 nights this past December, so there was lots of downtime for relaxation, but when you're there for that long you do get to do lots. The FP+ and ADR's usually cover the must do's and then the rest of the trip just kind of happens! :)
You are like us, our trips are 2 weeks and we make it a vacation, not a race

My first trip...yes. Keep in mind I was well into my 30's and had never been. And our children were 10 and 8, and it was their first trip as well. I didn't know if we would be able to go again. So we packed everything we could into 4 days. We stayed offsite, so it was exhausting. We were able to go back 3 years later, stayed onsite, and my new attitude emerged--there is so much to do at WDW that every vacation there can be different. We have favorites, "must-do's" if you will. POTC, BTMR, TSMM, TT, Soarin', seeing Wishes, etc. On our last visit this spring, I made a plan for doing all our favorites, but also for trying some new things. I planned some downtime at our beautiful resort, and it was lovely. We're now planning a trip for 2017, and we're already excited about more opportunities we haven't taken yet. Doing everything is subjective--as long as you're having fun, you are doing everything.

I do one trip (coming up in just 7 days!!) where yes I try to DO everything, I'm up at the crack of dawn and go until they force me out (24hr event anyone :)); I also take a second trip each year with family where we do a great deal more walking and looking than hard core do it all style. That seems to work best for me.

We are just over an hour drive away so we do mini drop in trips. Usually 5-6 hours in a park before heading home. We are doing a more traditional week long visit in a couple weeks. It will be interesting how it changes our touring style.

When one first begins to tour WDW I think the urge to "do it all" is too much to resist, and you should do as much as possible. Over time, with repeated visits, this will change as you sort out the things that needn't be done again with "must do" and "first time" experiences. For me it was dozens of trips before I could finally settle down to a more reasonable pace. Now, as a DVC member and more frequent visitor, I am able to relax and take a few hours in a park to do favorites each day. :earsboy:
