Do you try new resorts or stick with one?

We've tried a couple of resorts over the years. So far my favorite is CSR (been there 3 times so far).

My family wants to try something different next time.
We've done POR, and it was okay but I wouldn't choose to go back. Done ASMu, and frankly not a fan of the value resorts.

What I love about CSR is the relaxed atmosphere and the Pepper Market (I like real silverware and not having to hunt for a table and carry everyone's food from station to station and wait in line to pay while my food gets cold).

I'm concerned that any other moderate resort will disapoint, but don't really want to pony up the big bucks for a deluxe resort.

So I'm at a loss on what to try next - or if I should. Do you folks like to stick with your favorite or explore new options? What have been your favorites and why?

We like to try new resorts. This time we will be trying 2 new resorts and staying at one of our favorites. We do a lot more half days since we take longer trips, so a resort with extra amenities is always best for us.
We have stayed at CBR and for my family it did not make the grade.
We also did Pop for one night and really thought it was clean and well themed.
Than there was the Swan. We thought it was a little run down, but loved the boat to EPCOT and MGM.
The Dolphin we thought was much nicer than the Swan.
The Broadwalk by far has been our favorite resort. We love the entertainers that are out at night on the Broadwalk. We once again enjoy the boat to either MGM or EPCOT.
This time we are staying at the Royal Palm Club at the Grand Floridian, the Beach Club Villas and the Broadwalk Villas (we are breaking in our DVC points this trip!! :cool1: )

Well, we attended a convention at CSR, wasn't a positive experience. Would not consider going back. We moved to POR, for a few days after, and had a great experience. Quiet, relaxing, would consider visiting again.

We had dinner ressies at AKL, and as soon as I stepped into the resort, I knew I would really like to stay there someday, if possible. I felt like you, at first, and I needed to do some careful planning to budget, as well as choose the timing (season) to save money.

But, after much research, and my AAA room only rate, I've got my vacation reserved. I'm making payments every month, and the room will be paid for way before we go.

I'm very happy with our decision. If you'd have asked me a year ago if I'd consider a deluxe, I'd have probably said no. But, I see the value now, and by putting our vacation on "lay-a-way", AKL became do-able! :cool1:

Just got back from POFQ. DH and I absolutely loved it. POFQ is my Moderate of choice (even though it was the first time I stayed on WDW property!)
Next time we go, we are going to kick it up a notch and stay at the Contemporary. We love the fact that the monorail passes right through and DH wants to try some water sports when we go back!

Which resorts are all one building? This last trip we encountered a number of downpours. It would be great to be able to go to breakfast or a lounge without getting soaked in the process. Just curious.

We always try new resorts, but if I had a true favorite, I would do a split stay. I'd stay a few nights at a new resort, and then go back to my favorite for a few nights at the end of trip. That way, if you really don't care for the new resort, you will be glad to know CSR is coming soon!

We joined DVC a year ago, & you can tell by my signature that we have been trying new resorts ever since. Love it!

We like to try different resorts, but we have our favorites (CR&GF) and it's hard for us to try and stray from CR, but we do :) I use to feel like that if we don't try something new we're cheating ourselves, but I got over that. I have stayed at CSR, ASMu, Pop, Dolphin, CR & GF and loved all of them, but CR would have to be our favorite if I had to choose just one. I think that if you're itchin' to try a new resort then go for it, if you love your CSR then there is no reason not to stay there again either! I totally agree with you about CSR btw, it's a moderate but it feels like a deluxe, so if it makes you happy, stick with it.

We're going back to GF next year, unless the bus situation changes, then we'll be revisiting the CR/AC instead. The only resorts I have not had any desire to try are The Boardwalk (that damn clown pool, lol) POR and WL, not to say that I would never try POR, but would rather go to POFQ instead.

Have fun with whatever you choose!!

We bounced around the mods and values and now we are doing the same with the deluxe resorts. Leave tomorrow at noon for a 3 night stay at the YC and 3 night at the Poly....totally excited!

Well for our first (and only trip, we said at time)!! we did 21 nights at POFQ, liked it so much we went back 11 months later and did 14 nights at ASMu, then for a good few years went to all of the All Stars, and were always really happy there, but last year booked ASMO, but because of pool closure we changed to CBR, now we've booked for POR next year, as now I feel we should try all the resorts, but kinda miss that going to your "own" resort.

never stayed in 1 I didn't like yet!

I like to try new resorts. Although price is always a factor. We stayed at the Swan a number of times because we got great deals there, and for the price we were paying - I far preferred the Swan multiple times over a moderate.

Having said that, I have since stayed at most of the moderates, several of the deluxes, and now several of the values.

I think it all depends what you want, what you're willing to pay, what kind of deals you can get, and so forth.

I've been to GF, and while it was grand, I wouldn't say it's worth the rack rates during peak season.

I guess I'd have to say, all things considered, the Swan was our favorite, since we've stayed there the most times. But part of the reason it was so great was that we could go into Epcot for dinner. Most of our stays there were when Illuminations was newer, and also before the current EMH schedule, too.

We had tried to do every resort.Worked through most of the Value and Mods and now working on the DVCs.

Favs so far are.

POP
POFQ
BCV

I like to move around also. We have tried ASMovies, ASMusic, Wilderness Lodge and next year it will be the Poly! So far we have liked them all for different reasons. We can stay longer at value but like to splurge on deluxe.

My goal is to stay at all the resorts (with the exception of the values). We have stayed at CBR twice, OKW twice and BCV twice and have really loved all three. This January we are doing a split stay between BC and the Poly because  we wanted to try something different, but had a hard time pulling ourselves away from the familiar. In June my DD is dancing in DTD and the dance team is staying at POR, so we can chalk up another resort tried.

Committed resort vagabond here. My favorite resort is always the one I have not been to recently. To the OP, you would probably miss the Pepper Market at other mods since it is different from all others but POR, POFQ and CBR are all nice resorts and can have just as relaxed an atmosphere as CSR. But you do what you will enjoy.

To PP - the deluxe resorts are the only ones in one building where you would absolutely not get wet going to a restaurant. But you can sort of work your way from the rooms to the main building at the other without getting too wet. I remember weaving my way from our building to the food court at CBR (the buildings themselves have overhangs).

I love to try new resorts! But we have to limit that usually to when DH and I are traveling alone. When we have the whole family (two college boys and a middle-school girl) we need our DVC accommodations, or at least the ASMu family suite. We just can't manage with one bathroom and still consider it a vacation. And whenever I consider two rooms at a moderate or deluxe, I get faint from the cost. :sad1:

We try new ones each trip b/c my ultimate goal is to try them all before I decide on a 100% favorite. Looks like this Dec for a quick 4 day trip I will be repeating at Pop. I really wish the 2nd phase was open so I could at least feel like I was at a different hotel, but for the deal I got I can't pass it up. And new DBF hasn't stayed there so it's gonna be new for him too.

We enjoy sampling the various resorts. We have stayed at most of the deluxes, and we like CSR. Our only regrets were POR and ASSp.:earsboy:

CSR all the time!! Just booked for February 2008. This will be a new time of year for me.

DF and I are definitely "resort hoppers." Lucky for us, we live only an hour away, so we are fortunate enough to visit about once a month. Beach Club is by far where we stay most (thanks Art), but we have stayed at every resort on property. Contemporary is still my favorite, because I am old school, but its great to stay somewhere "new" when you can....
