Do you trim the light transfer paper?

Do you trim around your design on the light transfer paper before you iron it on?

I just ironed on my first transfer and it didn't turn out well. I used the light transfer paper and had a medium sized design in the middle of the transfer paper. I guess I've always thought that only the part with the design would "iron on". I thought that anything left blank would not have anything ironed on. Now it looks like anything that is white gets a transparent "iron on". Is that right?

My experience shows that I'm just not crafty! I take things very literal and need everything to be spelled out for me.

I hope someone can learn from my mistake! I knew I needed to trim the dark transfer paper, but missed the instructions to trim the light paper. I hope someone can help me, I'm scared to try again!

If the design doesn't take up the majority of the page, yes, I would trim around them. You just don't have to trim as close/carefully as you would with dark paper.

With light paper anything that looks white will have the transparent gloss look to it. I cut as much of the extra white off as possible.

yup- I trim too to keep the gloss down.
Also, I'm not sure what the finished product looked like, but if it was slightly yellowed, you may have ironed it too long. I have found that I don't need to do it nearly as long as the Avery pkg says....
