Hi, I'm changing my phone service to cable. do I tip the cableguy? If so, how much? :confused3

I don't tip the cable guy.

I also don't pay the ferryman...till he gets me to the other side. :teeth:

I've never tipped the cable guy. We just switched to Comcast phone ourselves on Saturday. Didn't tip him.

They charged me an installation fee and a change of service fee so I don't feel I should tip him for doing his job.

Just as I didn't tip the phone guy when we moved into this house. They, however, charged me $100 just to connect the outside wire to the inside wire! No way will I tip these utility guys.

No. Why would you tip someone who is just doing his job? Not like a waitress who is not paid a decent salary. I think people who make a good salary and are just doing their job should not be tipped. JMHO

I don't but DH does, he's field tech for Verizon. He normally works outside but once in awhile will be loaned to installation & repair and people tip him.

Are you all crazy? You have to tip The Cable Guy! :scared1:

Seriously I only tip them if they spend a good while or do a special favor.

No, I don't tip the cable guy. But whenever anyone comes to do work at my house, I offer them a can of pop or a bottle of water to take with them when they leave. Most of the time, they accept.

I'll tip the cable guy. All he has to do is hook up all the premium channels-no charge.:)

I never have didn't really even think about it at the time.

Oh Hell no...the only tip I have for him is CLEAN YOUR FRIGGIN SHOES OFF BEFORE YOU WALK ON MY CARPET

No way. Not the cable, phone, gas, electic or any other utility guy!

I work for a nationwide telecommunications/cable/internet company and it is strictly against our policies for our installation and repair techs to accept tips. Sometimes they are offered tips and they are supposed to politely decline. Heck, they are offered all sorts of things ...but the rules are to decline.

These techs are union employees (as far as Verizon, AT&T, Qwest, etc are concerned anyway) and make a very decent salary (I manage a group of technicians and many make considerably more than I do!).

I am really shocked that Verizon lets their techs accept tips!

Really, my DH retired from Verizon 3 years ago. He said they were not allowed to accept any tips.

My first though when I read the title of this thread was...eh?? I mean I've never heard this one before but if the cable guy has started to get tips then I say please, tip your dental assistant!

As a former brilliant Oral Surgery assistant I must say, she/he works hard for you :) !

I had never heard of tipping the cable guy either. That is, until my son started working at a cable company about 6 months ago. He gets tips from so many people! I had no idea people tip cable guys. Yesterday alone, he got two $25 tips and one $30 tip! I was very surprised but many do tip the cable guy.
