From reading another thread, I would like to find out what most people do when it comes down to tipping at DVC resorts. Thanks

Need an other on your poll. I do tip - ususally $1.00 to $2.00 per person on T&T day and when we leave.

Cyn

Cyn,

Thanks for the suggestion. When I was setting up the catagories, I figured there are many variables, # of days, # of people, unit size, etc.

To keep it simple, I decided to go for the overall tip for the stay figuring most people go for less than 2 weeks.

Now only the moderators can revise the poll.

I would appreciate it, if any of you vote, please indicate,

up to 8 days,

how much you would tip (this would include the T&T and full cleaning days, if applicable).

Thanks

We cancel T&T day if we are not in a studio. At the end of the stay I'll leave $5 or so + the unopened food & beer. Yes, there is left over beer. (I must be gettin old).;)

Thanks for the poll luckytso!

DVC-Don we had one beer left in the fridge too...it almost broke my heart!:(

I don't tip and yet I consider myself one of the most generous tippers around. I can not see tipping someone for changing the towels. We empty our garbage so what do they do. They leave towels and some soap that is it. Sorry, not tip worthy. On the other hand I would hope that they get paid more than those working the same at a non-DVC resort because the tipping situation must not be good.

$1 pp on TT day and $2.00 pp on full cleaning day (or checkout if there is no full cleaning day!) All unopen food and beverages are up for grabs as well! At all times I run the vacume, empty the trash, wash all my own dishes and leave all unclean towels in the tub. There isn't much for housekeeping to do except the required cleaning between guests. I always treat DVC as I treat my own home while I visit, so there really isn't much for anyone else to do.

To me it is customary to tip when someone cleans up after you. We do empty trash as needed between T+T days and we wash our dishes as needed but I hope all the dishes are washed between guests whether they looked used or not. As for clean towels left over I assume they too are laundered and a complete new set of towels is left. How does housekeeping know for sure they are clean? I leave the unit as neat as possible but I don't try to do housekeeping's job. I'm sure they are judged by certain standards and I wouldn't interfere with their routine. So for our last 10 day stay for 2 adults we left $20. We didn't have T+T as we did a quick load of towels.

I'm just amazed at the haul they get from all the unopened food & drinks!! We always leave ours, I guess I didn't realize how many other people did as well.

Disney has a list of those employees that they consider to be "tipped employees". Housekeeping is not on the list, probably because they are not paid as tipped employees (according to the IRS) and make more than minimum wage.
I generously tip those who work mostly for tips and are taxed as such. I see no need to tip someone whose salary is already being paid by my dues.

how can you not tip these people. do you think they make a lot of money? plus they make our vacation great. they clean rooms for a living for gods sake.. a buck or two is not too much too ask.....for some people i guess....dave ...

Ealier this week, I would not even have thought not tipping at DVC resort is what most people do, until I read another thread, and then realized not tipping is a fairly common practice at DVC.

I figured most people may not come out to say they don't tip. So I set up this poll to see what the results are like.

We will tip for sure, just because otherwise I will feel really lousy and keep thinking about it. It is not worth it to not pay few bucks and feel lousy afterwards, but that is just me.

However, now I see the other side's point of view. Thanks

+ unopened food and drinks.

I don't think the staff is allowed to keep these items, at least they weren't in the past. Their instructions are to throw it out. It's a safety and health issue...open or not.

Do you tip the friendly CM that checks you in? They are providing a service to you. They are trying their best to find you the best room available. They also help to make our vacation great. Most are above and beyond the word friendly. And I promise you, they do NOT make a lot of money. Just curious.

no lisa they are probably the only ones I dont tip . maybe I should. but I still tip the women who clean up after me, and dont get me wrong I CLEAN my room before I leave, and I still will give them a tip... its worth it....dave:cool:
