Do you tip CMs?

We typically do not, but there was an occasion last year when my husband did. It was when we were shown to our Fantasmic seats by a CM. I kept getting wrong directions to the podium to pick up our seats, so I was very upset. A CM went out of his way to help us and try to get us okay seats since the delay caused us to get the worst ones. Anyway, I was curious as to whether or not anyone else tips, and if so in what instance.

I was always told that CMs (excluding Plaids and TS) are not allowed to except tips.

My niece told me that they CM's are no allowed to accept tips. They must decline three times and then accept. They must then give the tip to a Lead. She told me they are "shopped" often and are always given the report.

hmm, not as much anymore. We used to get TOOOONS of mystery guest, but im guessin with the low economy that program is cancelled.

I always tip at the restaurants. I would think they are allowed to keep it then, since on the credit card receipt it leaves a place for a tip?

Restaurants are tipped positions. CM's who work at CS restaurants are not. Kim works at a CS restaurant and they must turn tips over to their lead who will turn it to their manager who then decides if the CM may keep the tip. TS restaurants do not have that protocol.

So does that mean it doesn't matter if you don't tip at TS restaurants?

table service and counter service.... but charecter meals the price includes tip.....

You should still tip at table service restaurants. It is a standard in the restaurant industry, so the CMs there are treated accordingly in their guidelines.

What the PP meant is that non-waiter CMs are not to be tipped. It is their basic job guideline to give you great service for no tips.

Does that help?

Thank you for clarifying what I was trying to say. I was not clear at all

while staying at the gch I plan on tipping the usual suspects (bell hops, porters, valets, housekeeping, waiters, pool bar people etc...etc...)

Not a problem. In today's world, where everyone and their goat puts out a tip cup (even when they don't deserve it), it's hard to determine where it's appropriate.

It's also unusual, in that same culture, that a company says - "Hey - my people are supposed to be doing this good work on their own accord - not for your tips"!

And what happens with the tip if the manager decides the CM cannot keep it? That sounds a bit strange to me!

Then they should have this policy clearly posted so that people who do tip at CS places know that they may be contributing to a charity rather than thanking a CM for a job well done. I'm sure someone (not the one actually giving the money) is getting a tax break on the donation too.

Well, remember the OP was about just a regular CM, not at a counter service place. I can't even imagine tipping at a CS place...first there's just no time, and second it's all pretty much assembly line so is there even room for tip-worthy service?

But the regular CMs can sometimes give really terrific service; helping you find something, etc, and some people can feel so grateful they are compelled to offer money. If I'm trying to give someone money and they repeatedly refuse, I generally figure that there's some policy in place preventing the money from going to the CM, and I personally would stop offering.

And I also figure that the policy is so the CMs don't do things that are wrong to help individuals, like letting them cut for $20, etc. If the money must be reported and the manager might not allow the CM to keep it, then there's no point in the CM risking his/her job for that money. Keeps them a bit more honest.
