We are having some appliance delivered, do we tip the delivery men? and if yes how much? We are having 4 items delivered.
Thanks

I tip them. Usually they're not only delivering, they're removing the old appliance as well. Since they often send two men, I give each of them $10.00. (If I had 4 appliances being delivered at once, I would increase that.)

No, I don't. I never think to, and because I paid for the item at the store and I don't keep much cash around, I wouldn't have a way to tip them.

Funny you should ask, last week we had to replace our 30 year old refrigerator. Bought a new one at Sears on Monday, it was delivered Wednesday. We paid a $45 delivery fee so I was already leaning towards NOT tipping the guys, plus we paid a $10 fee to remove the old refrigerator as well.

When they came they tried to tell us it would be another $15 to change the position of the door handle so it would open the opposite way, um...no...right on the orders it said "change position of door handle", and I had to show it to them before they would agree to do it without charging us more $$. Then they didn't want to hook up the ice maker, and we had been told when we bought it that they would hook it up. The guy broke a part off the old one, so it couldn't be hooked up and DH had to go buy new parts to be able to hook it up himself! So, no, we did NOT tip them. In fact, DH called and spoke to the guy who sold us the refrigerator and told him about all the things they did. Not very happy with their "delivery service."

No! I know I will probably be in the minority but I actually think it's getting a little ridiculous with all the people that you are supposed to "tip" now-a-days. I have the attitude of "it's not my responsibility to pay your employees just because I bought something from you" And yes, I have been there - I was a waitress for 9 years (it was the hardest job I've ever had ::yes:: )

Ditto

Nope. I also don't tip people who deliver flowers to me, or the courier, or the mailman.

Sometimes, If the do an excellent job by taking out the old apliance I will give them extra. However I refuse to tip if they have their screw driver holder showing. Crack Kills

Usually, but it depends on each situation. I tip a lot of folks. We had two young guys --- about 25 --- installing carpet in our home. It took them about 5 hours. I tipped them each $25, but they did help us out a little more than they had to. And they were VERY appreciative.

Most of these jobs, delivery and installation, do not pay well. I help them out if it seems like a good thing to do.

Yes, I do if the service is good.

If I don't have cash on me I sometimes just offer something to drink.

Tip the appliance delivery guy? Nope. Especially not since he scratched it when he brought it in! In fact, they touched it up and then paid me $100 not to make them take it back and get me another one. :)

I generally only tip personal services type people (pedicurist, hair stylist) and waitresses. And the valet if we're at Disney. :)

Other than that, they are paid to do that job and don't rely on tips for their income. The one exception I made was a furniture delivery guy. The company specifically said they only deliver to just inside the front door. It was a HUGE bed...headboard, footboard, and rails. I was 5 or 6 months pregnant, and was the only one available to help my DH get it up the stairs. The delivery guy would hear nothing of it and helped DH get it up the stairs and into the bedroom, all after he'd had to bring it up the front steps. HE went above and beyond, so of course, we tipped him. :)

I've never had an appliance delivery person remove the old appliance.

I've never tipped them. Perhaps they would be nicer if I tipped them in advance?

We had four appliances delivered recently and we did give each guy 10.00...we would have done 20 each if they had to move the other 4 appliances out to the curb or take them away but we had a renovation going on so the guys demolishing the kitchen had taken all the others out already and all the new guys had to do was drop them off right inside the front door. I usually tip everyone, mailman (christmas), ups guy (christmas), guy who pumps my gas every week (christmas), flower deliver every time he comes (which is not that often LOL), poland spring guy at christmas, furniture delivery guys whenever they come etc.....recently my neighbors across the street changed the color of their living room and had just gotten furniture that year so they were getting new stuff in a different color and we took their old stuff, love seat, sofa bed and chair. We gave the 2 guys 75.00 to take their stuff over to our house and take ours out to the curb. Well worth it, that sofa bed weighs a ton!!

Yes. When I moved to Florida, Sears delivered a washer, dryer and refrigerator. They brought them in, connected them and went through the time to explain how everything worked. It was over 90 degrees and they were very pleasant.
