Do you think we will like the Sci Fi Dine In?

There aren't a lot of TS options at MGM. We have eaten at H&V and Brown Derby before. We wanted to try something new. My sister inlaw likes the Sci Fi, but the reviews are mixed at best. It will be DH, DS 7, DD 6 and me.

I think you will like it. The Sci-Fi is a neat place to dine. We have eaten there several times and always enjoyed ourselves. Just don't go expecting the food to be as good as the Brown Derby. Give it a try.

well knowing you as well as I do, it's possible you will. or you may not.

personally, I like it, although there's no repeat factor for me since the film loop is so short. service has never been a problem for me (i had a REALLY great and sort of off the wall server there once). i don't mind the food either, i get the chicken penne pasta (it's shrimp on the menu). it's said the burgers are good as well.

The food is not that good:sad2: but the restaurant is quite fun and exciting. I would go again (mostly b/c of the ambience) but maybe for lunch.

We like it because it is a welcome break for the kids. It is very cool and dark inside. They do not have to talk and gives them a chance to just "chill". We usually eat an early dinner here to give us time to recharge. I think it will be perfect for your kids.

We felt the same way you do but decided to try it anyway. We really enjoyed it. It's nice and cool and dark. (but not too dark) sitting in those cars is pretty cool and we had WONDERFUL service. DH and I both had a WONDERFUL chicken sandwich. We are planning to go there again this year.

Enjoy!!

Sci Fi is the only restaurant that I have disagreed with the UG. The reviews are awful. I took my step-mom once only because she loves cheesy old sci fi movies. We split a burger and desert. It was so good I took my kids and DH the next day. Now the only thing I've ever gotten there is a burger, but my family enjoys it.

We really like to sit in the cars and watch the bad movie reel but the last 2 times we went the food was really bad.
At Prime Time the food is always great and its a fun place.

Thank yor all for your quick replies. I guess we will keep the ressie and hope for the best.

We've been twice. The food is OK and certainly could be better. However the atmosphere is great and worth trying at least once. :)

In eight trips to WDW, Sci Fi is the only restaurant I have been to every, single time. Obviously we enjoy it! We have never had bad service and the food has always been good. I enjoy Prime Time too, but have had some pretty lousy food there so that can certainly happen anywhere.

I like to go for lunch at Sci Fi, enjoy the burgers, shakes and reubens. I agree with another poster, its a great, relaxing, quiet place to relax and recharge.

I have never gone to Sci Fi as a place to go for exceptional dining because as soon as I looked at their menu I wasn't thinking gourmet but rather just a place to grab a burger in a fun atmosphere. My kids now almost 11 and 13, would never let us skip this one.

Just so you know...you can order burgers, fries, onion rings etc. off the lunch menu for dinner without a problem. These things aren't on the dinner menu.

I love the atmosphere and the overall concept. The trailer loop could definitely be longer though as everyone is pretty much forced to stare at it and seeing the same thing over and over and over again gets old.

Having said that, it'll be a long time before I go back (assuming I ever do). The menu just doesn't appeal to me or (especially) my DW -- and the last time we were there I found something that bore a suspicious resemblance in look/feel to a human fingernail clipping in my open-faced sandwich (though they said they thought it was likely an 'onion core') :sad2:

It is our tradition to have lunch there our first day. We really like the burgers and shakes. I had the oreo shake last time, yum-o! We have never had anything but the burgers there. It is more of a burger/fries place to me and the theming is what makes it so enjoyable.

I love the Scifi Dine In and it's the only restaurant we're repeating from last year. However, I don't "get" their menu. A drive in would have more casual food--hot dogs, nachos etc, and I can't imagine why they think penne pasta or steak fits the theme. I had the reuben last year and liked it, but we're going for lunch this year and possibly paying out of pocket. If we all split an order of onion rings and get burgers, it won't be very expensive by Disney standards.

I didn't have great expectations for it when we went in June having read a lot of negative reviews - it ended up being one of my favorite meals! The whole family loved the food, it was a great break from the heat, the theming was awesome - and we were totally revived for the rest of the day. It'll definitely be in our list of must-do's for the next vacation.

Loved all the comments regarding Sci-Fi -- never been, so we'll be going for our first time, also! We are looking forward to it!

We've asked ourselves the same thing. The only reason I can think of might be because you can get 'more casual food' at the various counter service places and/or 50's Prime Time, so the powers that be could have decided to stay away from those food choices to further differentiate itself (A bit of a stretch, possibly, but considering what they've done over at MK to offer more variety in the counter service places I don't think it's too unreasonable).
