Do you think this is terribly tacky?

My dd saved her money and bought an IPOD mini. She talked about a pink one for 6 months. My husband took her to get one and they were out of pink. Being only 8yo she couldn't wait. She got a silver. Ever since she has gotten a look of regret when talks about how pretty the pink ones are. She doesn't listen to it much. My husband borrows it a lot. He listens to it way more than she does. Bacially, it is his. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo. His birthday is next week. I thought about buying him one and making it pink. Then they could switch. My husband thinks the world rises and sets in his daughter, so it wouldn't really be a problem for him. Like I said, he listens to hers more than she does anyway. But I feel like it may be tacky to basically buy dd a gift for my husband's birthday.

I can actually appreciate a mind that works like that. ;)

Since it's your own family I would say that it's not tacky. You all might get a good laugh out of it too. :flower:

I don't think he would find it tacky at all. It sounds like he might find it funny!!

I wish my mom would do this for my dad's birthday!

I don't think it is tacky at all.......but I would also pick up a little something else for him too, or perhaps a nice evening out. After all one way or another he is getting an IPOD, perhaps get him a gift card from itunes so he can download some more music on DD,s/his new silver IPOD :sunny:

Why doesn't your dh "buy" the IPOD from her? That way she can get back her money and then if she still wants an IPOD she can go buy a pink one.

I would keep the whole thing seperate and buy your dh a birthday gift. I know my dd's love to get dad a gift.

Awww, I think that's a cute idea! :teeth:

Hey, your daughter could buy it and get a student discount at the Apple store!

Awwww.....what a great idea! I say go for it! :goodvibes

I think this is a great idea. But if she really wants a pink one can't she buy an ipod skin to change the color?

Not tacky, it's smart. Your giving it to your spouse, he understands and probably wants to keep it, but does not want to disappoint DD. If giving it to a stranger, I would say it was tacky.

Isn't this what we are suppose to do as parents? Make our precious children happy? I would not have a care in the world if it were me.

I must admit I thought of doing this! I wanted a pink one soooo bad, but this was right when IPOD minis came out, so the pink ones were nowhere to be found. I bought a green one instead. On dh's bday I wanted to get him the pink one and 'exchange' but I figured he would never use the green one. So, I bought him the silver one and still secretly lust for a pink one...

Since it is your family, you know them best, get the pink one. Maybe you could tell him (wink wink) that you really wanted to get him a black one, but they only had pink. ;)

I think it's a great idea!
In fact, we did something similar.
My kids' grandfather lost his PDA on a business trip once.
For his birthday we gave him something like this wrapped up from my son (then an infant):

He LOVED it, and of course, handed it right back to the baby! (We did have other stuff for him :) )
I think your DH will understand and offer to trade his pink one to your DD and so both of them will be happy! :)

If you go to the Apple store, not Best Buy or Circuit City, but an Apple store. (Check apple.com for autorized stores). I work at a school, so I got an educator discount. Also on the apple website there is an education link, then k-`12, then you use a zip code/state finder for your students school. If your school is listed, you can receive a discount.

I got a $30 discount on a 3rd gen 20g, and got a $50 discount for a 30 g photo.
