Do you think this is possible - too much garlic?

Oh, trust me, it's possible. The first time I made ziti I didn't understand what a clove of garlic was - I thought a clove was the entire bunch. We all like garlic so I doubled the amount the recipe called for. Let me just say not only did the entire house smell like garlic but I think you could smell it all the way over in Alabama.

Is what possible? that there is such a thing as too much? I know you can start to smell like garlic if you eat it too much because it comes out your pores. But we eat a ton of it.

No such thing as too much garlic. LOL

In the summer it appears to be a natural bug repellant and in the winter it helps ward off colds although keeping colds at bay is more than likely because no one will get close enough to you to spread their germs. LOL LOL

java, you can come over to my house and I'll make you some ziti! :rotfl:

Garlic is actually quite good for your health.. :)

You're right about it coming out of people's pores. It's not just "garlic breath." The person smells like garlic...it's nauseating to me to have to be near someone who smells like garlic. (So all of you garlic fans need to stick together.)

It might not be too much for you to eat, but may be too much for others to smell! Years ago a woman in the cubicle across from me REEKED of garlic 24/7. It was absolutely nauseating. I love garlic, but I mean this was BAD. Everyone complained about it but she claimed she didn't smell a thing. It was totally coming out of her skin, pores, clothing, etc. You could even smell it in her cubicle if she wasn't there or had the day off. So just be aware of your surroundings!

I don't know for sure, but I think you can build up an intolerance to garlic if you eat too much! DH and I add garlic to everything and are always using it to cook with. I've noticed over time that it's starting to make me sick if I eat too much!

One day that was particularly bad, I'd made some really strong garlicky hummus and then later that night had super strong garlic wings. I was SICK for all the next day and halfway into the next (bad stomach cramps and other gastrointestinal issues). I really have to watch these days because I get sick like that if I overdo it!

:sad1: And I love garlic too. :sad1:

Last time we were at WDW, Husband ordered an appetizer at Mama Melrose that was an entire baked head garlic. He ate the whole thing himself. All the next day he had severe gastrointestinal issues...I so wish he had stayed back in the room because not only was he miserable, he made the rest of us miserable because he reeked (imagine the joy of the others in line with him at Epcot. :guilty:)

Garlic is good for your health, BUT, just in case anyone takes garlic capsules for health, be careful...garlic naturally lowers blood pressure and there have been people who have dangerously lowered their BP by taking too many capsules per day.

I know this thread is about garlic in food, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Garlic breath surprisingly doesn't come from the mouth. It comes from the lungs.

yes!

A guy I worked with came into my office one day and I could hardly stand it 'til he left! All I could think of was that he must have eaten one of those whole, baked ones! I love garlic, but not smeling it wafting off of someone else!

I LOVE garlic! It is true that you can eat too much of it though. I remember one time we had a big family dinner and made some incredibly garlicky pasta, with garlic bread on the side. It was delicious, but everybody smelled HORRIBLE for hours! The next morning, I could still smell the garlic coming out of my husband's pores! It caused some GI issues too.

So, I love garlic, but maybe not quite THAT much garlic.

This happened to my cousin as well. :goodvibes She wanted to surprise her parents by making garlic mashed potatoes with dinner and she said her house was garlic-y all week long! :rotfl:

I think there can be too much of a good thing. My DH, who's Italian, puts garlic in just about everything, which is fine by me.

On the other hand, I think my MIL actually rolls herself in garlic cloves before she starts cooking. :rotfl2: She puts way too much in everything she cooks. Her house smells like a big ol' giant head of garlic, and it makes me sick to my stomach to smell all that garlic.

My DH is a retail manager. He actually had to fire a guy because he ate so much garlic (I'm talking every meal, inc breakfast). He warned him three times, customers started to complain, he made a cashier throw up just by standing behind her. He hated to have to fire the guy, but they were losing business, no one would work with this guy, and several had threatened to quit. This guy had a serious addiction to garlic.

I know one time, I would bring those cans of Campbells microwave tomato soup to work to eat and I would sprinkle it with a ton of dill spice. It was so good. About 3 days later, I started smelling like dill!! I was so freaked out and now I won't even eat pickles. :scared1:
