Do you think this about WDW bus travel (strange question)?

You might think this is a strange question, but I am wondering what others think and what experiences they have had...do you ever feel frightened on the WDW bus because it feels as if it is going to tip over? I raised this question on a smaller board quite a while ago and some wiseguy posted back about a bus tipping over (it did not). So...no jokes!!!

Anyway, I absolutely HATE the feeling that that bus is leaning too much to the side when it turns corners. They seem to top-heavy and travel pretty quickly. We are staying on property and need to use the bus at least to MK. Does anyone else have this feeling? It is a wonder to me that there haven't been any accidents, or maybe there have and nothing was publicized. I think the bus system runs efficiently and is great other than the ride itself. I get so scared that someone will fall over on my family. Is this just how public transportation "feels?" (don't have much of that here). Has anyone else ever wondered about this? Thanks in advance for satisfying my curiosity! :)

Hmmm.....I don't think I ever felt "scared" about their transportation. To me it is the same as any other public transportation. And I haven't ridden in public trans. for about 15 years. I have never felt this way before. However, now that you have mentioned it, i'll probably be sweating over it in November.

I went to a convention several years ago in Los Angeles. The courtesy busses were very similar to WDW transport busses. They had the same 'feel'. It is from the design of the suspension system. They are safe.

I am curious, why was this moved to the transportation board? I know that a bus is transportation, but it seems to me that most of the posts on that board pertain to transportation to and from WDW, such as flying, highways, etc. I know that several posts of mine have been "moved" and it is hard to find them and others, sometimes. I just thought that this seemed appropriate here, since I have seen other bus questions this board. Thanks!

What makes me nervous is when they pack the busses to where everyone is standing on top of eachother in the isle and everytime the bus turns a corner someone falls on you. Oh , my other favoriteis those bright people that get on the bus in the morning with a big cup of coffe and I watch it slosh around just waiting for it to scald my leg or the guy with the stroller standing in the aisle banging it against my leg for the entire ride:rolleyes:

The buses use an air cushioned suspension system - call it air bags for lack of a better term. They are designed to compress in the turns, which results in the feeling you describe. They are safe and unlikely to turn over at the speeds driven around WDW. Most drivers recognize that the feeling can be uncomfortable, and they slow down a bit in the turns.

BTW, the new buses now being added to the transportation system do not have this type of suspension system.

I have often speculated that the driver's are required to drive faster when there are standing passengers. LOL

Slightly Goofy

I feel uncomfortable with the busses at times. We buckle up our kids at home and then it is okay for them to stand and be hurtling down the highway at 55 mph. Of course there are accidents too, they just don't publicize them.

I'm not afraid of the bus tipping over, but every once in a while I have a vision of flying through the windshield if the bus stops too fast when I'm standing.
