Do you think that Katrina has changed the US?

Well said Viking. I agree with you. Canada is heading in the direction that your country is already in but we seem to be moving slowly on it. The US, however...

I agree with you Puffy...The ripple effect is endless. The gap of the "haves" and "have not" is growing at an alarming proportion. We are headed to eliminating middle class...who can afford a 70% increase in heating your home (that's the prediction I have heard... we live in Michigan), plus higher gas prices, and the lists goes on and on. I don't know, I think the money being spend to fund the War in Iraq is squeezing the life out of this country..we have no financial resources to update our energy deficiencies

We you really sit down and analyze what's going on in this country, its really scary. I agree with you Puffy, U.S. is a breeding ground for instability, too many Americans are tired of being taken advantage by our politicians and major corporations.

I think that alot of things will be changing in the United States very soon. The fact that something this devastating happened with very very incompetant leadership has disturbed alot of people.

I hope you are right but I fear our collective memory is too short.

Oh I hope not. I really do. There are some wonderful people in the US. The country should band together finally and do what it needs to do instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing.

I think what's even more frightening is how disconnected Americans feel from their government and how little faith/trust we have in our institutions.

We are the government, but it is amazing how many people see the government as an enemy. Individuals may not be trustworthy, but the institution of government is.

I don't know if some people really thought or cared about people living in poverty before. I don't know if the "haves" thought of the "have nots" in ways other than to be a burden on the taxpayer. Maybe some of the faces and the events of the past weeks and weeks to come will tell the tale of a new US. But saddly, I think JoeEpcotRocks is right. :guilty:

barbarabini - agree with a lot of what you wrote. :) :guilty:
