Do you think it will be a huge success?

Well the reviews for the smugglers run ride have not been very good so that sucks.

Either way it’s gonna be successful

Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time. 15th when adjusted for inflation. You somehow lucked up and found either the handful of people who were alive in 99 and didn’t go see it, we’re too young to remember, or the ones who were born since then and haven’t seen it.
I didn't see it until last summer before I was going to WDW. it was not my kind of movie

When you're at WDW, the number of people who fit into the bolded categories above is pretty high, though, so I'm not surprised that there were a good number of folks there who hadn't seen it. When you are my age 1999 seems like yesterday, but for many of guests at AK on any given day, 1999 is ancient history. ;)

It depends on how you define success. Do I think people will go into the land and be excited? Yes. Do I think it's a gamechanger that will drive people to WDW for years that might not have gone? No. There will be a year or so bump but it's two rides. They are already scaling back some of the interactions. If you look at Pandora and Toy Story Land (I know - totally different) but they were successes in that it increased in the park and things to do but they weren't gamechangers. I expect Star Wars Land to be bigger than that but not something that makes Hollywood Studios a top park.

Will it be a huge success? I can only tell you from our view. We are not going until 2021 to let the 1st rush die down a little and time for me to learn more from this board. After looking at the loot they will have and budgeting for 3 of about everything (that will teach me to introduce them to Star Wars) I am looking at a budget of 2-3k at GE on our next trip alone and we are just 1 family.

I agree with this. I think Harry Potter land was a game changer because it literally put you in a world you have been watching in movies and reading in books for years. It’s an incredible experience the first time

The problem with Star Wars land is yes it has the MF but it’s on some planet we have never seen in a movie, so that kind WOW IM IN A STAR WARS MOVIE feeling might not be as immersive as let’s say oh I’m in Harry Potter right now.

Either way it will be big, but I’ve yet to realize if causal Disney fans will care much about it. She’s a MASSIVE Disney fan.

My wife was watching videos on it yesterday and she wasn’t really excited. Her words were “ I don’t really know what I’m supposed to be looking at “. She never watches Star Wars. She doesn’t really care about it.

We’ll see though.

Maybe I live exclusively in the middle of the Venn diagram of people who love Star Wars and people who love Disney as a lot of my friends are in that bubble. But a significant chunk of my facebook friends are people who NEVER WOULD GO to Disney until now and are planning trips to see Galaxys Edge.

I like Harry Potter, but it only gets me to Universal ONCE....I'm just not that emotionally attached to those characters and that universe. I saw the Millennium Falcon this morning on GMA and my eyes started tearing up. I don't care it's on some random planet, IT'S THE MILLENNIUM FALCON....

I still think we're all better off preparing for crowd levels 8 zillion forever. Then we can be pleasantly surprised when it's not like that.

The reviews have been mixed it seems. And apparently the merch is expensive. Be prepared to shell out some dough if you bring your kids. I am one who plans to wait til things show more of a pattern - I will go either Dec 2020 or spring of 2021. I want to see how things line out before I go.

Actually the film Avatar was 2009 / 2010. Titanic was 1997

I wonder why they chose to make the land Batuu instead of Mos Eisley Spaceport? Mos Eisley is a LOT better known, is original Star Wars, and would still have had all the stuff they have in "Batuu."

Because this is about YOUR story. This isn’t about the stories of the characters you love. Mos Eisley also isn’t set in Batuu.

Why does everyone want to go back to Jakku Tatooine?

From what Im hearing, I think once the shine wears off, it wont be as popular as once thought. I think that whole "its your story" is lame. People want to visit the places they grew up loving. Its like the wizarding world making a wizarding world land and not Hogwarts, diagon alley and Hogsmeade. I think it wouldn't have been nearly as successful. The gamechanger will be rise of the resistance. If that ride blows it out of the water, then it will pull people no matter what. It could become the next pirates or haunted mansion and a classic.

I don't know about that. People are loving the experience such as the droids or sabers as well as the food options. Milk seems to be a spot people aren't thrilled with and it depends on the person for Smuggler's Run. Haven't seen a bad review of the cantina yet either.

Droids, lightsabers are all items within. They all have a connection with the original trilogy. The canteena is very reminicent of the canteena from the original trilogy as well. Imagine all that set in the land from the originals and what an emotional connection that would have with visitors and fans. Right now the narrative pertaining to the land is its very detailed. Had they made the places we loved and grew up with the narrative would have been Im in tatooine and reliving my childhood fantasy. Its like when we go to the movies and see something that connects with you and takes you away and you say “man what an amazing movie” vs saying “that movie was shot and directed very well”. We will see what happens because maybe it will become a place where i make memories with my family and in the future it becomes a land to where I develop that connection however for the short term as it stands now, it is just a new place.

Personally I think this works better for a theme park. They wouldn’t have been able to piece aspects of different planets in one land. You would have to have chosen one planet. Whether is Hoth, Tatooine, or whatever. This also allows for more growth. Having it not directly connected to the original films doesn’t date it either. Doug Chiang said himself they looked at doing those places but this was the best overall option.
