We're scheduled to cruise this December with a night before at a Disney resort (no parks), but I'm probably going to cancel it and wait until next December. Even though we're both vaccinated, I'm concerned about the Delta variant.
In terms of traveling I'm more concerned for my son than for myself, because at his private high school they've verified (via submitted vaccination cards) that about 95% of staff & students will be vaccinated, they're going to require masks, it is not a crowded environment, & in general it's a community of staff, students & families that are pretty vigilant about following safety protocols. So imo he'll be quite safe at school, and I don't want to put him at heightened risk for a vacation.
I'm going to be at high risk daily due to my job as an elementary school teacher, working with a full classroom of all unvaccinated students until Pfizer is approved for under-12's. I also live in Texas, and the governor has forbidden mask mandates at schools, which raises the risk level even more. I'll be wearing my KN-95, but I know that at least some of my students will not wear masks. I personally would probably be safer on the trip than at work.
So I'm not sure what to do. I know that my son will have increased risk just living with me. But I still don't know if it would be okay to take him on a trip. It would help to have an idea of where the country would be in terms of this Delta variant surge in late December, but no one has a crystal ball.
I hate Covid!
