Using China as an example of what might happen is like comparing apples to oranges.
China has a one child per family law, and culturally with males being more revered than females, families want that one child they are allowed to be a boy. Thus creating the over abundance of males.
In the Western civilization where people are free to have 19 kids and counting, the preference for girls vs boys would be much more distributed.
