Do you think DLR will ever add a new park/resort?

With the expansion of DCA, it's hard to imagine that DLR will look the same in 2035 as it will in 2012. Do you think they might ever add a new park within the next few decades? There isn't much property left to develop, but I think that they should get consolidate all the parking in one area/structure (or in some magical way)..(and that means getting rid of the Mickey and Friends garage), and build a new park on the NW corner just above DLH. I would love to see something like that happen.

Personally, one of the things I like about DLR as compared to WDW is the smaller footprint. DL is smaller than MK but has considerably more rides. We make better use of the land we have on the west coast. As it stands, a majority of the rides at WDW are avaliable at DLR with two fewer parks.

Adding a 3rd gate just gives them the opportunity to spread out the attractions more. One of the reasons I am not too fond of DAK in Orlando is that there are hardly any rides. By my definition, there are 5 rides at DAK. It's a bit of a waste. All that space, and only 5 rides. All of DAK's rides could have been incorporated into Epcot with most of them going into the World showcase. It would have made Epcot a much better park and been a better use of space.

Instead of a 3rd gate, I say let's keep adding to DCA and continue to make it better.

Well never say it will never happen cause its been said by the Disney team that its talk but nothing set in stone. Just near Disneyland there is another lot they can use for another park. But if they have or can get rights to it I dunno. I remember a water park was suggested but that was nixed cause its not warm all year round and a lot of money would be lost on it during unused months. But who knows what else they may come up with later.

Years and years and years ago, the initial idea for a second park was supposed to be the West Coast version of Epcot, which would be called Westcot. I don't know if it was due to the space limitations or what (they just don't have the darn room to develop out in Anaheim as they do in Orlando), but Westcot was shelved and DCA was born. In the meantime, all these cool parks such as Animal Kingdom and Tokyo DisneySea have become part of the Disney parks family, and we have no room for a DisneySea OR an Animal Kingdom out here if we can't even have an Epcot!

Still, there was a thread on DIS sometime last year about upcoming plans for DLR, with the possibility of two new hotels (I wish they would make one of their new hotels in an aquatic/underwater type of style/theme), and a possible third park. No one has any clue what this third park might be, but some said that because of the space available, it may end up being a water park. However, Knott's has a water park and so does Six Flags. I think Disney would be more creative than to do that in their tiny space. So what could it be?? It's a mystery to all of us what they have up their sleeves for Park #3, sadly.

I think we will someday see a 3rd park, but I don't imagine it coming for another 10-15 years at the earliest. It's a fine idea, but I think that the DCA refurb needs to a huge hit first.

It's my understanding that Westcot didn't happen because stupid people in the local governments didn't want Westcot, so they wound up with DCA. That said, I'm glad they didn't do Westcot. It would have been too much of an Epcot clone, whereas DCA will be especially unique once they finish the refurb.

That doesn't surprise me - there are lots of stupid people in the local governments around SoCal! And a lot of the local residents and City officials have protested for ages about any new development by Disney, but meanwhile, in this economy I hope they are now embracing the prospects of whatever Disney may be able to do because it will greatly increase our state's revenue - which we desperately need in California - and increase jobs.

I was never sure of what the exact reason was for nixing the Westcot idea, but one rumor was the space limitations. However, in hindsight, you are right that DCA is its own unique little place with its own personality. I hope that Park #3 - when and if it comes along while I am still young enough to enjoy it! - is something cool and unique. Since we can't get a nifty DisneySea out here, I HOPE DLR does not take that extra acreage and build a water park.

We have to deal with them all the time here in Seattle. Trust me, the mere mention of a Disney resort would send residents screaming out of their homes. Not me, though. If I were to attend a public hearing on the matter, it would be me, and every other Seattle DISers vs. those ol' cranked up party poopers.

Unless they lived there on July 17, 1955, they don't have too much room to complain because they knew that Disneyland was there when they moved there.

I agree. That is a good point!


And yes...people in the PNW are crazy! They wont let you build anything anywhere without some sort of protest!

I doubt it. The problems are zoning, California enviornmental and other laws, residents, transportation, economics, and land costs.

The streets in the area are times are a nightmare and there are no current alternatives. At WDW they can put in roads and divert traffic. They can do like Epcot and put in a monorail line. They have lots of land and room to spread out. DLR does not have that luxury.

DCA alone is going go cost a lot of money and still is not unified like DL. DL has a main street with hubs. Each land is a unique world that blends into other lands. You are an astronaut then comes the lagoon and mountain and you are back to Main Street or in Fantasyland. Walk out of Fantasyland and you are in forest that becomes Frontierland. DCA will always be yawnville compared to DL and WDW siblings.

I just do not see it happening right now or in 5 years.

I could see a water park but with lack of space I would be shocked to see a new major theme park. I like that DL is smaller than WDW. My family takes short trips to DL (3-5 days) and longer trips to WDW (8-10 days). This works out great for us. I would love to see a less expensive disney hotel though.

Not to mention the fact that area of Anaheim was only orange groves at the time, so there was really no one there.
