Do you think a meal at the Blue Bayou is worth the price?

Like others here have to agree that the food is not of a high class, but I'm sorry to say we found that at every restaurant we tried. Too much emphasis on speed to get the table refilled means less attention to the food. Steer clear of seafood here, my wifes fish was overcooked and a bit bland, her salad was also very plain. My Steak and Gumbo was very good though. Liked the atmosphere but it would pay to request a waterside table and wait to get the real affect (and value for money). Next trip will go for the last lunch setting and try the much vaunted Monte Cristo and Cookie ship, they look good.

I dont like being a downer but I want to give my honest opintion.... Definately a YES for the atmosphere, but NO for the food, and the service.

Great atmosphere especially if you can get a table by the water where you can watch the pirate ride go by, but the food I found was dry and cold, and there was a LONG black hair in our food (We are all blond). They wouldnt replace the meal, nor take off any money at the end or even appologize. We had to basically hunt people down for refills on our drinks and for the bill. So for the amount of money we spent for the meal, we could have spent it on something a bit far nicer then that. I dont regret going for the atmosphere though like I said, that was really lovely.

For curiosity sake I would say go as there are people who really like this place. But from my general experience I wouldnt go again. Perhaps I just had a really nasty, had to happen to someone experience.

Gosh, I wouldn't go back either if I had that experience. Reminds me of an Applebees experience we had, we NEVER go there either now. LOL

We ate at the BB for dinner in June. We had a water table, and the atmosphere was really cool. We all had the steak and did enjoy our meal. The service was just "okay". We felt like we waited a bit too long for drink refills and our check at the end also. But we'd go there again, I think next time we might just do desert (that looks sooooooooo good!).

NO!

BB used to be one of our favorite places, but now that they have raised their prices, it is no longer worth it for us. We just went two weeks ago and the service was horrible and the Monte Cristo was just plain gross! I got it becasue it was the cheapest thing on the menu and it was awful! It was like eating grease. The meat on it was like cheap lunch meat you buy at the grocery store, just terrible! All but one of us ordered it too and we were all disappointed. The other person ordered the salmon and said it was not worth the $30.

We won't be going back there!

I'll chime in to with a very big NO. The food, service, and quite honestly the atmophere isn't worth the price. You can get the EXACT same atmosphere for FREE if you go on the POTC ride itself! Shoot, you even get some water drops and pirates thrown in! I took my dd for her birthday, and it's an experience we won't repeat, ever.

If the question is whether you should go there for the first time....then my answer is yes.

If the question is whether you should go there a 2nd or 3rd time...then my answer is probably no.

There is a certain ambiance and atmosphere that can be enjoyed when you go there for the 1st time....but admittedly...if you go for a 2nd or 3rd time.....you probably won't enjoy it as much since you realize that the food and service is a considered "overpriced".

I have eaten there once with DW, DS and DM....the price was equal to anything that I usually find in some upscale Vegas Restaurant ( about $30 for an entree )....but we went just cause DW and I always wanted to eat there everytime we rode past it on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Given the price....if you haven't gone before....assuming that you can afford to splurge just a bit ( and I know that this may sound strange ), I would go and have lunch there....but this is mainly to say that I have eaten there before.

Nope I sure dont. The food there is way overpriced for the quality of it. I went there once, and that is enough for me.

My husband and I split a Monte Cristo and my kids are small enough that they can split a kids meal. We splurge for the cups with the glowing tinkerbells thoug. Yes we love it.

If you are going for the Monte Cristo -- just know that you can also get it at Cafe Orleans (which also takes PS reservations). It is a bit cheaper at Cafe Orleans and you can easily split it between 2 adults. There was a $4 split plate charge (but that was better than ordering another entree that would get half eaten). It comes with grapes and strawberries. Our service at Cafe Orleans was *awesome*. Granted, it doesn't have as cool of an atmosphere at BB, but they were constantly refilling our glasses and coming by and asking if we needed anything. Our server even brought my 2 year old a whole bowl of strawberries (free) because she was loving them so much. Another place that takes reservations is Carnation Cafe and they have great service there, too. Again, not fancy food/atmosphere -- but we loved going to places that we could sit down and that we had a reservation for. Anyways, just know there are other options besides BB for reservations! :goodvibes

I have to agree with the "atmosphere - yes; food - not so much" crowd. Definitely don't go at dinner. They don't have the Monte Cristo sandwich, it is extremely overpriced and the food is only mediocre.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been debating about eating there, but just couldn't make up my mind.

I've been once before. Ages ago. Geez, it must have been at least 14 years. I can't remember what we ate, but I know it was for lunch and I don't remember thinking the place or food was anything that special. :confused3

So now I've been wondering if I should give it another try, but I don't think I will. It's expensive and I don't eat ham, seafood or prime rib, so there's not much on the menu I'd really enjoy anyways.

I guess I'll just do what a previous poster suggested and if I want the atmosphere, I'll go on the ride. LOL

Anyways, thanks for the input and opinions. :thumbsup2

Hmm...all I'll say is....yes, I could probably make all of these dishes at home and make them better (no arrogance intended, I am no chef). The only difference is I don't have that 'Pirates' atmosphere in my dining room which is why I think they price these plates the way they do. But, my kids still insist that we eat there each time we visit...for us it's all about making memories. Albeit expensive (tasteless) memories, but memories for the kids nonetheless. ;) Call me crazy, but we love Blue Bayou!!

We went for lunch because the menu was more to our liking and it was cheaper. We enjoy wine with steak and the BB does not allow alcohol. We had a wonderful, relaxing steak dinner upstairs at the Jazz Kitchen.

I just have to quantify my statement from before on why we will never again attend the Blue Bayou.

My wife and I arrived ane and a half hours before our reservation. We waited Two and a half hours to get the table. Once seated we had to deal with three servers thoughout our meal. It was lunch for them or something...but we were denied a hot meal. The entrees were delivered an hour after we ordered and it was all cold. Since were were ravanous with hungar...we had to eat it. We tried several times to get our waiter to take it back, but once we got our food, they ALL were no-where to be found. after another fourty-five minutes after eating, we finlly got one of our waiters to bring a check that we demanded be comped some percentage off. At this point, a manager should have come to the table to see what the problem was. We never saw a manager and still ended up paying around sixty-five bucks for the most horrible meal that I have ever had. Afterward..I wish I had just left early, we spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME! That is why I would recommend "The Plaza Inn". It is quick freindly and portions are great. AND you still get to see the Blue Bayou while sailing through the Pirates of the Carribean.

We ate at the Blue Bayou 10 days ago. We have been before. We probably won't go again. The food was okay. The service was fine. The atmosphere was great.

The good things:
:) They let my DS10 order off the kids menu -- $13 prime rib
:) DH and DS13 split the adult Prime Rib ($34 + $4 split plate fee), but it came with all the side dishes for each of them with just half the prime rib. Plenty of food (three adults shared the prime rib and one Monte Cristo).
:) The atmosphere seemed a calm, cool respite from the crowded, hot park.

The not so good things:
:upsidedow The wedge salad (side dish) was just iceberg lettuce
:upsidedow The Monte Cristo was awfully greasy
:upsidedow cheapest thing on the menu was $21 + drink + tax + tip per adult
(my husband almost got up and walked out)

Wow, it seems to have gone down hill over the past couple of years. We went as a group of 8 adults in 2002, and loved it. Wonderful service, yummy Monte Cristos and the best ice tea I've had in the park. From the recent reviews, the food quality went down as well as the service, but the prices seem to have gone up. I was thinking of going there Thanksgiving week and taking our kids for the first time... now I am re-thinking that idea!

I don't really think it has changed. Well, the prices went up some, but they were always high. I think some people just have a different expectation given the price of the food and the raves of others from what they actually get. Some of us love it, some hate it, and many are in the *shrug* zone. To me, the food is as good as any in DL and better than most. NOW, let me qualify that by saying that IMO, DL doesn't have great food.

We ate at Cafe Orleans on our recent trip and it was terrible. The service was awful, the food was awful, and it cost a lot of money. There was a pleasant atmosphere--looking out on the Rivers of America--but it's hard to appreciate that with 3 squirmy kids who are tired of waiting 2 hours for a meal. I don't know if the Monte Cristo there comes with all of the sides that you get in BB, but it is cheaper. However, if I'm going to get a MC it's going to be at BB, no question about it.

I fully appreciate that my experience at Cafe Orleans may have been a fluke experience, so I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from eating there. For us, though, there is just no comparison between BB or Cafe Orleans. One is a standard outdoor cafe and the other is an experience.

We eat there very rarely. Once in a blue moon for a special lunch, but we'd NEVER eat there for dinner.

Lunch is fine there. The atmosphere is great, and I do have to say the Monte Cristo is really good. But I was raised by an Italian mother and French father, and for us it's tradition to have a nice glass of wine with a fine dinner, and the BB doesn't serve either of those things.

I agree that the service there is lacking and the food can be, frankly, bad sometimes.:sad2:

I agree that some people may have different expectations--and sometimes with Disney, very high expectations--but my expectation was of at least a resturaunt that had good service and good food. I knew I would love the atmosphere...that is a given...but the service I received was some of the worst I had ever recieved in my life!

I recomend--save the cash--look at it from the ride--check it out inthe idea of using the restroom...but please save your hard earned cash!

:hippie:
