Do you think a 1BR over the studio is worth double the points?

I can't quite bring myself to stay in a studio. We had the perfect situation next year. We are coming off a cruise and wanted four night at VGF. I had enough home resort points for 4 nights in a studio but i have ended up adding on for a 1 bedroom. It wasn't for the space it was 2 thing I couldn't get past:

1. We only trace with 4 days clothes so after a 3 night cruise I'll need laundry urgently. I couldn't cope with the idea of not having my own to just throw stuff in before I go to bed. Having to go the the laundry feels like doing laundry. Not so much when you can do it whenever in the room
2. We always breakfast in the room saves so much time and we don't like Cs breakfast offerings.

I can't really see us ever doing studios.

Full kitchen so you can actually cook a breakfast
Personally I'd prefer if they removed the range and stove so that DH doesn't expect me to cook breakfast in the room. The freezer and bigger fridge is a plus.

Having to go the the laundry feels like doing laundry. Not so much when you can do it whenever in the room
The laundry room is pretty nice. The wash cycle was 30mins. Then I split everything into 4 dryers. I was done in under an hour. With the in-room units, we always have to dry a second cycle.

We're also a family of 3 (teenage daughter) and have stayed in studios and 1 bedrooms. While I do like the space of the 1 bedroom, I really don't think they are worth double the points. I like the king bed, 2 TVs and soaker tub in the 1 bedroom, but I'd rather go for twice the length of time in a studio rather than stay in a 1 bedroom.

Now if the 1 bedroom was just 50% more than I'd be much more tempted.

I think a 1 bedroom is worth it for sure. We have small kids that need their own space to sleep plus we always cook breakfast in the room so the full kitchen is a huge benefit. We have stayed in a 1 bedroom at AKV and SSR and enjoyed both of them. We are staying in a 1 bedroom at VGF in October for the first time as DVC owners.

While I absolutely loved the extra space in the 1 bedrooms (and larger), I don't think it's worth double the points. Usually it's the 3 of us traveling and the studios are fine. I don't cook on vacation, but I do like the big fridge, counter space, and kitchen table in the 1 bedroom too. But again, not for double the points. I'd rather stay longer or go more often and stay in studios.

My DDs are in college now, but when we bought into DVC they were very young. When they were young, I preferred the studios. We got more trips with our points and they wanted to be in the room with us anyway. When they became teens, we preferred the 1 or 2 bedrooms. We didn't travel as much (they had sports and school stuff) and they did NOT want to be in the room with us. Now, DH and I don't want to be in the room with them! They stay up much too late and talk and watch TV.

So in your situation, I would go with the studios and make as many trips as you can. I promise you...those trips to Disney when they are young are so much more special than when they are older. I mean, they are still fun. BUT nothing like when they wanted to wear crowns and dress in costumes and really get into the 'magic'.

We are a family of 3; we have only stayed in a studio once in 10 years. Prior to her turning into a 14 year old, DD was an early riser -- 6 am early. Needless to say that turned us off staying in one room. Now with our Owner's Locker we pack so little, we need to be able to do laundry for the clothes that stay behind; we also do breakfast and cocktail hour in the room so our OL and WeGoShop stuff need the refrigerator/oven. We tend to go several times in 18 months - maximizing our PAP and TIW, then we take a break so with borrowing and banking with our 200 points, it has worked. However, we are looking to add 100 points to go up yo 2BR for the extra bath and to allow DD to bring a friend.

We are a family of 4 and, like many others, we started off in a studio when the kids were little and we were able to take 2 weeks off school around the March break time. We moved into 1br as they got older and we could not possibly go back. One of the first 1br we stayed at was at AKL and I have to say it was too big (yes, honestly) and we felt very removed from the kids, especially as they had their own bathroom, we have always much preferred the size and feel of 1br at BWV. Next step will be a 2br as we are starting to get to the air-mattress stage.

We've never had a one bedroom....studios are our thing...two adults; three adults; two adults and one 4 yr old, and this summer will be three adults and two 8 yr olds at WLV for 9 nights. It'll be a tight squeeze, but allows three trips a year. OR, We've done two bedrooms. I truly can't see spending points for one bedrooms. We still eat breakfast, lunches and a few dinners in the studios. I know five will be challenging this summer. Time will tell if 2016 when we have 5 again will see us at OKW in a one bedroom....we LOVE OKW so that would be no issue. Of course, we also do GV at OKW. We have no issue taking our laundry down the halls or at the pool area (best at OKW, forced time in the sun)...I depends on what you are used to....

We, a family of 5, bought DVC for the 1BR and 2BR so that us parents could have a master bedroom separate from kids sleeping area. Also like having the washer/dryer. With just 2 parents and 1 little one, a studio isn't bad though. When DH and I go alone we can stay in a studio just fine. But we wouldn't have bought DVC for the studios if we were a family of 2 or 3. We would have just kept booking a regular resort room at the moderate resorts.

I love the one bedrooms. BUT....I don't book them unless we are traveling with more than 3. My dd is now 21, so she doesn't travel with me as much as she used to. My dh likes WDW but only every 12-18 months. So, we can usually stay in a studio. We are all tall, so dd and I share the queen bed and dh takes the sleep sofa.
I don't cook when on vacation..at least nothing other than breakfast. I have no problem going to the laundry room if I need to do a load. But.....I'm sure if I had more points, I would book a one bedroom more often. I just like to go several times a year...so a studio works very well for me.

We are a family of 3, and we book 2 bedrooms. It sounds ridiculous for such a small group, but I'm a single mom, so I get the master bedroom. DD22 and DS17 get to bickering if they're too close together for too long. Giving each their own space makes for happier vacations. Plus, we love the kitchen and being able to do laundry.

As for the original question, yes, I do think a 1BR is worth a lot more points than a studio. We value the kitchen so much because we eat breakfast and one other meal at "home" every day. I really don't mind making simple meals on vacation, but I love to cook anyway.

We bought BWV during a stay at the Poly in a regular room, with DS then 13 in the other queen and DD then 9 in the so-called daybed which was a lot smaller than the fold-down beds they're installing in studios now. That stay convinced us we needed more space and more bathrooms. So we bought enough points for a 2-BR for the week of Thanksgiving and have been glad we did. Now that kids are grown we still get a 1-BR for DH and me - DH likes to cook breakfast while I get dressed in the AM, and we plan on doing laundry so we can pack fewer clothes - but of course we can stay longer, too! Sometimes we'll add a night or two in a studio at a different resort, particularly if we plan to eat breakfast out that morning.

We've never gotten a 1BR. If it's just the two of us, we get a studio. If anyone else is with us, we'll get a 2BR. Several times, I've tried to book a 1BR for the two of us, but when it comes to making the booking, the penny-pincher in me always wins out and I wind up selecting a studio instead.

I don't think we've ever done a studio. We're a family of 4 and always do 2 br. Everyone gets their own space, and I like the kitchen/washer/dryer.

If I wanted to stay in a studio, I'd be staying in a hotel, wouldn't have all that capital tied up. If I wanted to take cheaper trips, I'd book that hotel offsite.

The only reason we own DVC is to stay in a room where the kids sleep somewhere else.

(I've said before, its expensive nookie, but it makes the vacations oh, so much more pleasant).

I agree with the reasons for the 1 bedroom. For us another reason was that we have our kids go to sleep and we didn't need to be sitting in the dark in the room. We could still enjoy our vacation, sit on the balcony etc.

For me, it all depends on which resort and how badly I want to stay. There are 3 people in my family, but usually only 2 of us go. A studio is enough space, but I would do a 1 bedroom if it meant getting what I really want.

IMO the difference is too large and not c/w industry standards. They should lower the 1 BR and raise the studio costs by around 10-15% each IMO ending up around a 50% differential, rather than 100%.
