Do you take WDW vacations with existing credit card debt?

Yep, sometimes. Sometimes the need for vacation outweighs the debt issue.

I think it depends on the amount of debt.

Have I in the past? yes, but not to anywhere as extravagent as WDW. More like a weekend at a Holiday Inn.

Will I ever again? I seriously doubt it. There is nothing more stressful than debt worries or finanancial problems and the vacation just isn't worth it.

We don't have any CC debt. We will take vacations while paying off student loans and car loans, but I don't think that really counts.

yes...

i'm with rajah on this one. sometimes the need for a vacation outweighs the debt issues. we do make sure that we aren't using the existing CC's while on vacation though, unless we absolutely have to.

We learned our lesson with CC some years back.....paid them off FINALLY and now only have the Visa associated with the checking account.

If we can't pay for the vacation we won't take it. Believe me I don't think there is anything wrong with using them though....I'm with Tammi....you only live once and sometimes the need for a vacation far outweighs debt!!

After charging, we put all our debt on our home equity loan where interest is tax deductible.
Yes, we will take trips without being totally out of debt. Obviously if we owed big money I wouldnt add more on just for a trip, but as long as it isnt too bad, and we know once tax time rolls around we will be ok, then I dont worry about it.

I think way too many people have difficulty in distinguishing "need" from "I want it really bad."

Thats true Tobys Friend. Planning a trip helps me curb my spending. We will have a CC debt after this trip but the money will be in the bank collecting interest and there isn't any interest charged with our new card. Tim is very excited about those pennies we will be earning.

Do you take a vacation when maybe you shouldn't?

yes we do. but i don't really think it's anyone else's business. we are not defaulting on our debt or something and we aren't racking up more debt by going on vacation.

and believe me, sometimes i really do *need* a vacation to keep my sanity.

NO and I usually have all our meals/hoppers/room/etc paid for
This past Nov/Dec caught me very much by surprise

We would never go on a vacation at all if CC debt kept us from doing so. Hopefully, when our 1st house sells near Orlando (we live in Tampa now), we can take the profits and pay off some/all of our CC debt and some for DD's college expenses.

We have debt now because DH's business had a real rough patch after 9/11. However, we are still going to WDW/DCL using mostly points. Is it wise? Maybe not. But we have annual passes for the WDW portion and only have to pay for food and airfare--we are taking cash from savings down there.
On the other hand, I am cancelling my deposit on next year's DCL I had planned--just can't justify it until CCs are paid off.

And I think other people have different tolerances for life's stresses and so one person's "want really bad" can be another person's *true* "need". :)

Yes, how else would I get to visit WDW. However, I pay it ALL off before the NEXT trip!;)

Definately agree here....especially with my life...

I fall in this catagory....Last year my life was truly upside down and it was an extra vacation (actually 2, 1 WDW 1 not) that got me through it...I would have had a nervous breakdown if I hadn't....(an no I'm not exagerating, I've come very close a few years ago and it was getting bad again...) I need to look after me every few years debt or no debt....

We very rarely carry cc debt, I think its only happened a handful of times in the 17 years we've been married when emergencies have come up. I've never been faced with going on vacation when I had any real debt (other than the ball and chain I LIVE in! :p ) so I can't really say for sure if I would vacation or not with credit card debt.

I would never venture to judge what works for someone else though. I agree with Caity, as long as you aren't defaulting on your debt, then its your business how and when you take your vacations! :)

I agree..... to each their own.

In our case, we have never paid a cent on credit card debt in 14 years, so I can't imagine going on vacation when carrying balances.
