Hecht company used to have nice quality clothing in the Baltimore area. I bought two cotton shirts from them about a year and a half ago. I wore one and washed it, and it came out of the washer all crinkled up. I partially dried it and ironed it damp, then steam ironed it. I could not get the wrinkles out. I was annoyed by the poor quality, so I took both shirts back to the register as instructed for returns. The cashier said since I had worn it I couldn't return it. So I went to customer service, the lady there said the same thing, even when I explained that the quality was inferior and they shouldn't be selling such poor quality garments. I asked to speak to her superior, and got the same reply from her. I asked to speak to her superior, and I was sent to the main office in the store. I stood politely while the receptionist there carried on a personal phone call. Then I explained that my complaint wasn't that the garment didn't fit or that I didn't like the color, it was that I did not feel that the quality was suitable for Hecht Company. I showed her how badly wrinkled the shirt was even after ironing. She remarked that that was the way that cotton shirts were. I showed her the LLBean shirt I had on- 100% cotton, and not ironed, even. She muttered something about treated shirts, but she eventually told me to go back to the original cashier and she would call and give the OK. As the cashier was refunding my money she very rudely told me that they couldn't be refunding money like this all the time or they would go out of business. I was just happy to get my money back, and I don't like being rude anyway, but I wish I'd said "Well then you need to get better quality clothing."
