do you take a cab to get back quicker?

I am curious how many people use the cabs at disney? Sometimes it seems the bus lines can be crazy... I am wondering if many people here use them?

I see them recommended here.

I have never used a cab in all of our trips over the years.

I have taken cabs--but only resort to resort when split staying. I often think of it...too late...as the bus for which I waited 20 minutes rolls by the cab stand, on its slow and circuitious route back to the resort!

Since I am now in need of an ECV cabs are no longer an option for us. We use to take them to and from resorts for meals because it takes so long via disney transportantion some times. We never took a cab to or from a park.

Using cabs everywhere would get pricey. The only time we really find it worthwhile is if you are trying to get from one to resort to another - assuming they are not within walking distance. Or maybe if you were planning a trip to an offsite Orlando attraction. Usually if that was the case though, I'd opt for a rental car. With a rental car, you can buy groceries and save money there.

It might depend where you are staying and the make up of your party. If there are no kids involved and you are staying at oneof the big resorts, then takinga taxi might save some time if you were leaving the park at closing time and the wait was long.

At MK though, the taxi area is over by the TTC (or you could get one at the Comtemporary) Either way, you have to factor the extra distance and time it takes to go that extra distance into the real savings. I'd rather wait twenty minutes for a free bus than paying twenty dollars to shave off fifteen minutes.

At Epcot, if you were viewing the fireworks over by the IG then it might shave a few minutes to get a taxi at BC, but if you are closer to the middle of the Epcot, then it becomes less worthwhile. It's a bit of a walk to get over to where the taxis are.

we absolutely use them...here is what we use them for:

1. to and from waterparks, the busses are slow with lots of stops.
2. to and from Fantasia Gardens minigolf (we usually do wintersummerland when at BB)
3. Hoop De Doo Review
4. this year we have our TS ADR's for 1:00 lunches at different resorts. we will take a taxi from our resort (POP) to our lunch resort. after lunch, we will then use WDW transportation to whatever park we decided on. we are giving ourselves the gift of a relaxing morning and then hitting parks in afternoon - evening.

that pretty much sums the taxi list for us. We have budgeted about $150 for taxi services this year. to us, the convenience is well worth it.

We used cabs for the first time in our most recent trip. Both times were after dinner at a resort, and needing to get back to our resort. We could have ridden buses but this would have required: waiting for a bus, riding to either a park or DTD, waiting for another bus, riding to our resort. In the past, this has been a very long process, and we decided that we would go for convenience this trip. Our 2 trips, AKL to ASMo and BC to ASMO, were around $10-$15 for the 2 of us.

We have begun to use cabs more and more. It gets us where we want to go, when we want to go. We can sleep a little later and still be at the park for rope drop if we take a cab then waiting for a bus with multiple stops. Resort to resort for dinner works great with a cab. But we usually take them to "get to" a place rather than "get back" to our resort, etc. We don't mind the extra time once we've done what we've planned to do.

We have never used a cab, 40 trips to WDW and counting, we just plan extra time, we're on vacation, never use a car and no matter to us, one way or another you're standing in a line somewhere. All Disney transportation suits us fine. Others have stated using them but they are not cheap to bop around. We also see them waiting around but they are not running so its hot inside them and most air conditioning won't catch up by the time you arrive at your destination, plus if they are stuck in traffic, the meters running.

We have used them when the logistics to get from one place to another can get crazy. For example - trying to get to Jiko's at the Animal Kingdom Lodge while staying at The Boardwalk at the end of august. (when you are all dressed up the last thing you want to do is ride buses and switch buses, etc.)

We have also used taxis when someone hasn't felt well and the thought of getting on a bus makes them sicker.

I am usually just fine with the bus system, but I wish I would have taken a taxi last year when we almost missed Cirque because of the long bus ride with multiple stops and distance from the bus drop-off to the entrance of Cirque du Soleil.
When you do want a cab, what's the best way to get one? Is there a place at each park or resort where they tend to be waiting or do you need to call for one? :confused3
Our next trip will only be for 4 days, so the idea of a cab to get where we want to go faster is very appealing. Not for everything, of course, but rather than riding the bus from one resort to a park and another bus from that park to the resort for dinner.... and then back. :faint:

We use cabs when we have ADRs at another resort. $15 saves us an hour, which we can spend in a park or at the pool instead of in a bus. Works for us :)

on our last trip, last year, we used cabs for the first time. It was VERY pricey...as we stayed offsite. But it was so much more convenient as far as getting where we needed to go, when we needed to get there. I doubt I'd do it again though, just because of the price.
But I can't lie...it was nice hopping into a cab, while everyone else was waiting for a bus.

My family used a cab only once - to get from WL to Downtown Disney. They had ADRs for dinner and then Cirque. If they used the bus they would have had to be ready at least an hour or more in advance - with the cab they needed like 20 minutes. It gave them more time to spend at the park and with my kids so they paid for it.

I have been reading a lot of recent trip reports from people that have stayed at OKW and they are saying the bus service has been lousy (I don't want to wait 45 minutes for a bus to show up). So when we go in August I am prepared budget wise to use a cab every so often if necessary.

we'll take a car from narcoosees to pop century - also from beach club to pop (rather than walk to front of EP, then onward to busses) - money well spent, as far as DH is concerned

Never taken a cab back from the parks, but often do if we've had a late dinner at another resort, it just saves so much hassle.

just tell the bellhop at at the entrance to your resort that you need a cab and they will call one for you. if you have 4 or more people, be specific that you want a van for X number of adults. a van doesn't cost more than a car but 2 cars does.

We have late ADR @ 1900 PF and had thought about using a cab to get back to WL, but we will not have car seat for DGD5, since we are using ME and Disney buses. Has anyone used a cab from resort to resort with children? without car seats?
