Do YOU swim in January?

We enjoyed Blizzard beach and the resort pool on our last trip in December, but am wondering if the nice winter weather was typical or an anomoly? How is the usual January weather? Has anyone ever been able to swim? How about the water parks....that would be a lot of water to keep warm!

YUP! Well.... we intentionally skipped BB and TL during our January 2002 trip (just felt we didn't have the time), but the one day we had planned to go to BB this past January we got rained out. Plus it was a rather cool day.... but the kids swam in the hotel pool several times. But don't forget, we are from NH! 60 degrees in January feels HOT to us!...................P

EDITED TO ADD... the morning we left for our trip this past January, the temperature was -11 degrees at 9 am!!

We have been swimming in January more than once. However, that changes from year-to-year. A lot depends on the weather, and what you are used to. From Penna., we can swim in the low 70's. We did get some funny looks from the people at Daytona Beach. I would say take your swimsuits along and hope for the best.

I've gone swimming in the resort pools in January, with the temps in the upper 40s. (My DD5 really wanted to go swimming.) The water itself was pleasant, but getting out was painful. We ran back to our room (at the Poly). But I'd do it again, as my daughter enjoyed it a lot more than it bothered me.

No, we're Texans! Boy, do I know the difference! When we lived in Massachusetts, we went in November one year and had a great time at TL one day. Meanwhile, the CMs who were lifeguards had their long sweats on, shivering, looking at us like we were crazy. Fast forward 10 years. Now we're Texans, and just last December went to WDW. Now we're right there with the CMs, looking at the people swimming while we're dressed in long pants and sometimes jackets, thinking "They're crazy!"

It will have to be pretty cold for me not to swim, IT comes down to this, if the air temp is above 50 and I can't Ice fish it, it must be swimable.

We swim, too! However, this last January, we had one day that was really cold. We chickened out, but there was a man and his son swimming in the AKL pool. I said, "You gotta be from New England." He said, "Nope - we're from Canada!"

Yep, we swim! I'm from Maine, and back home, any time the pond ain't frozen is swimming weather.

I have decided it is based on where you are from. When my best friend took her kids in Feb she asked me if you could swim. My response was "I don't swim unless the pool feels like hot bath water, but for Yankees it's probably warm enough!" SHe just howled! She was raised in the South and married a guy who won't live Boston. And yes, her kids swam every day! (They figure if they aren't blue it's warm enough.)

In December and January, you'll more likely to fine me in the hot tub. I noticed at Universal resorts, the water there feels a little bit warmer (especially RPR), than the Disney pool. I wouldn't do value resort during winter, they don't have hot tubs!

Simba's Mom....so you MOVED south and now you are a cold water wimp? I was just asking because DH and I are from the south (me-Louisiana, him-Florida) but we have been living up "Nawth" for about 5 years. We STILL hate the cold weather and really don't enjoy swimming unless the air temp is about 80 or so. We were in Florida the end of last March and though we did swim we turned blue and could not handle it for long (it was about in the 60's or so.) Will my blood ever thicken up?????? Lacee

We always swim in Jan. We seem to luck out and get at least one real warm day (80F) to hit the water park for the day.

I had to laugh at the "We're from Canada" comment. My son was swimming one cool evening and a family was at the pool in winter coats (from California) and the Mother asked my son if he was freezing in there and his reply was the same, lol "Nope, I'm from Canada"

We've done a lot of swimming in January, however not on those days when the temperature has hovered near 32F, I'm happy to say! I think you'll see a huge demographic split on this one, based on where Dissers live. When we were in the Poly pool (only family one afternoon) some people walking by were talking to us and joked "you must be from Alaska or from Canada". "We're from Canada" we laughed. If you can handle the race to your room afterward, the water is actually beautifully warm when the air temperature is cold. A hot tub definately makes that sprint easier, though!
