Do you surprise your kids?

Maybe when my kids are older I might do a surprise, but for me I love to see them get excited and talk about it for months. It's something they get to look forward to.

Being a surprise doesnt mean you can't talk about it! My kids are just as obsessed with Disney as I am. Disneyland comes up in our daily conversation- almost every day, if not multiple times a day! They talk about memories, what they want to do on the next trip, things they like to eat, etc. They watch the planning videos just for fun. They know there is almost always a trip in the works. It might not be for a year, but there is always one!

True. But they are so young that we use a calendar and count down the days daily. DS gets so excited to see its getting closer. Also it helps him with counting, days of the week and his months. Maybe when they get older we can pull a fast one on them!

I have never surprised my kids but I do know someone who did.
They had everything planned and kids got up and got ready for school, AS the cruised by the school and the kids wondered why she announced "Were going to Disneyland! Right now!" The kids were thrilled.


Personally I dont think Id like that Im too much of a planner, but I am also a grown up, when I was a kid it would have been great!!

We are surprising DD with a trip to DL for her 5th birthday in April.... and she doesn't have any idea we're going...

While on our last trip to DL (she was 3 1/2 at the time), we started talking about taking a trip for her 5th birthday. Then just before Christmas, we bought our first house. So we didn't think we would be able to afford the trip afterall, so we told her the trip wasn't likely to happen until her 6th birthday. She was fine with it (amazingly enough). But as it turned out, we could afford it and booked the trip without her knowing.

The weekend before we leave, we're going to have a small birthday party for her so she doesn't think that anything is 'up' and then we'll give her an invitation from the Disney characters inviting her to celebrate her birthday with them! We'll have a tote bag filled with stuff for her to use on the trip (disposable camera, autograph book, flip flops, sunglasses, Princess towel, etc).

She is seriously going to flip out!

We've done it 3 times. The last time was the best. Santa came early and delivered tickets, balloons, matching sweatshirts and t-shirts. IT took 12yr old dd a couple of minutes to figure out what was happening. She thought we were going to Disney on Ice. Within 12 hrs of Santa's arrival we were packed and on our way to the airport. I shipped Christmas decorations and a Tinkerbell Christmas tree to the hotel ahead of time.

The look on the kid's faces is worth keeping the secret.
