Do you still write checks to pay bills?

Mostly online, but there are some bills that can't be paid online or charge a 'service fee' and I'm too cheap to pay $5 for the convenience of paying a $30 bill online. Offhand I know the city water/sewer, DD's lunch and aftercare, and my student loans are paid with check.

I just want to convince my DH's company that direct deposit is their friend. Every time I go to the bank, the teller always wants to tell me about this great thing called online banking. I'd love to, but they refuse and cut paper checks every week, it's such a pain.

No - I pay everything online. Love it!

The one and only exception is DH's monthly downtown parking for work.

:goodvibesYes I still write checks....I believe that I am WAY IN THE PAST. Don't really know how to pay bills on line but guess that I had better learn. Shirley

Just two. Water and propane. We write 4-6 checks per month (Disney, of course) and don't use our debit card much either.

My problem is I run out of deposit slips months before I am out of checks! And I hate the idea of buying books of deposit slips when I can get them at the bank for free.

I still write some checks. Our mortgage an extra $10 when you pay online, so I mail it in. Credit cards I pay online about 80% of the time.

I still write checks. Call me old fashioned but i don't really trust computers. Wait, what am I using now? :confused3

I have princess checks but I don't use them to pay bills. I use free bill pay through my banks website.

I write the vast majority of my checks to the nail lady, the hair guy, the housekeeper, and my pychologist

I pay whatever I can electronically. I write checks for our church envelope and kids' activities. That's about it.

I love my Disney checks however, I pay most of my bills online. I guess my checks will last longer that way.:)

I use direct withdrawal for my bills, pay credit cards online (but still get a paper copy of the statement to have), but most of the kids' extracurriculars I need to write checks for, as well as the school for field trips, etc. Sports teams, booster groups, acting class, all need checks.

Well, right now I am out of checks; ordered from Walmart and they never came in (managed to w/d the payment from my account right away though!!:headache:). Gotta take care of that tomorrow. So we have been only using debit card and cash.

I have direct deposit for my check, not available for dh's and that is a PAIN.

I have been paying most of my bills online, but will never set up automatic withdrawal of a bill again. I tried it, set it up to come out of my account on a certain day of the month (which coincided with the day my direct deposit would go into the account). The bill was actually withdrawn from my account 2 days early. And of course this was one of those months that the money was tight, and it caused my account to be overdrawn. Bank said there was nothing I could do about it because I had agreed to the withdrawal.

I...will never set up automatic withdrawal of a bill again.

I love electronic bill payment - both from my bank and at the payee's website, but, because of stories like yours, I make a single payment every month for all of my bills. Sorry that you had to go through what you did, and I'm sorry that your bank was no help. :(

...that''s why I'll NEVER get 'sucked into' automatic withdrawal...

I pay all our bills online, the only check I write is for the collection plate at Church.

This is our last month of doing so.... but DH and I have been carrying two sets of utilities.
We lived in my grandmother's house for 2 years while she lived with caretakers and refused to sell. Our "rent" was utilities only... but they were all still in her name.

We bought a house 5 days before she passed away in December so we've been carrying our utilities and the ones for her house as well...

I write checks for the utilities for her house and use online bill pay for our own (except the city fees, they get a check!). I didn't like the idea of the bank account being tied to an account I wasn't technically able to talk to anyone about.
