What do you do with your old cameras that still work fine?

We have a couple of them.

Do you still use them on occasion?

We have a 4.1 Sony that still works great and cost a small fortune back in the day!

I still carry it around sometimes although I just bought a new P&S.

I upgraded to a D300 from a D40 in January and I still use the D40 on occasion. Its a smaller camera and if I just want a few quick shots I will sometimes grab the D40 and use it. I also am starting to list a few things on ebay for the auction house I work for and I use it for the listing pictures.

We use every camera in the house, with the exception of my wife's old 35mm film camera. I think she's just keeping it for sentimental reasons. But, we have 3 pns cameras (mostly for the kids' use), a Canon S5 which I use a lot and take the camera places I know I'll get reasonable shots and don't want to "risk" my dslr". My wife has her Canon 300 and I have a Canon XSi.

I sold my old Canon Rebel 35mm + Glass.
I used that $ to purchase a Sony Cybershot DSC-P8.
Yes, I sold a SLR for a P&S but I was stupid and wanted a digital camera.

I aquired a Sony DSC-T1 from my parents that had a bad LCD screen, but Sony fixed it as it was a bad lcd issue that affected many makes and models.

I still have the 2 P&S. Why wife uses the T1 and my 2yr old daughter uses the P8. I am using a D40. When the time comes for me to upgrade bodies I will pass along my D40 to my daughter in hope of inspiring creativity at a young age.

So to answer your question the answer is Yes, we still use our old cameras. I've looked at selling them, but it is not worth what I could get on eBay or Craigslist for an old P&S. My daughter loves to take pictures and the joy on her face that is something money cannot buy.

I have just purchased a Sony DSC-R1 which is two years old.

Having a lot of fun with it.
Its not quite a DSLR (which I plan to upgrade to when I can afford something with some decent glass) - but having researched into the PnS market this was a good compromise. When it was released in 2006/2007 it won rave reviews and still takes some beating for the money. It has a great lens and I am looking forward to taking it to Florida this Christmas.

I still have my Olympus OM2n 35 mm - which I just cant bring myself to part with!!!

Just before Christmas I bought a new DSLR so I gave my old DSLR to my mom to use. I also have several point&shoots that I let my nieces and nephews play with.

The expensive painful lesson I learned was too sell cameras that are not being used ASAP. You will at least get some money for them. If you hold on to the camera for sentimental reasons like I did buy the time you rid yourself of sentiment the camera might get you $25. Like mine did.

By the best lenses you can afford with the understanding that the lenses will be useful for a long time. I have lenses that I bought in the early/mid 90s that are excellent and if I bought them today they have gone from $600 to around $900.

Camera bodies are just computers to which we attach glass. The camera bodies will have something new in 12-24 months to badly tempt us. If you don't have a use for the camera sell it to recoup some money for your NAS issues.

I still have and use my original digital camera a Coolpix 995. It still takes a great image. I have sold my D70.

I bet it has been 5yrs since I put film in a slr of mine. Jeff's purchase of an FE has made me want to pull mine out and see if I can still use it!

Well, I think my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S85 takes pretty good pictures. We will use it. We have always taken excellent care of it and it literally looks brand new.

Film.....my Olympus OM 10 took GREAT pictures. I am not sure I still have the camera though. I think I sold it a while back. I should look through the garage boxes.

I need to figure out a way to get my old slides and pictures from the Olympus digitized.

I sold my film cameras years ago. As for my digital cameras, I traditionally keep two around for use. Anything older than that gets sold or given away.

My kids all have their own P&S digital cameras, and we did keep the Sony DSC-H9 that my kids love to use as well. I just gave an old Kodak 5 mp camera to a friend.

We still have a Sony F707 which we got back in 2001. In daylight it still competes well with our newer stuff.

Yep. My Olympus Stylus 820 is my failsafe concert camera, as it's super-slim (and therefore easy to shove into a sock or something if need be to get into the venue ) and has a dummy setting that allows for well-exposed, sharp (well, as sharp as Olympus's lens will allow them to get...grr) images with no thought to changing settings manually or anything. If I could, I'd take my Rebel XS everywhere, but some places just don't allow it, so I go with the Olympus or my other P&S, a PowerShot SX200 IS.

ETA: Forgot-- I also have a Rebel 2000 (35 mm) and a Minolta X-700 that I got for my HS graduation that has something broken on it, but I don't remember what. I'll get it repaired eventually. And my first digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 2100, is probably going to be given to a friend for her kids to use.

Of my 9 cameras the only one that i dont use is my point and shoot 35mm film camera and the only reason i dont use it anymore is I dont think they make the Advantix film anymore.

you might have problems finding a repair shop that can find parts for the old Minolta

Well, let's see:

---I used my Canon G5 last month on my big trip out west when I didn't want to take the time to change lenses on my dSLR. I will continue to use it whenever I want to carry a smaller camera which can shoot in RAW and produce excellent pictures!

---I just sold my Canon S3 IS to someone who plans to make good use of it!

---That leaves my broken G9 and an old Canon 2 megapixel something from around 2002 I think and it has a "sticky" shoot button.

There are still a few old film cameras around here too but not SLRs. I can't bear to throw them out for some reason; so many memories with the pictures I took with them, I guess!

I have a Nikon N50 that we still use--our first SLR and in awesome condition! (Even after I dropped it)

My daughter has my Nikon Coolpix5600. It has taken over 10,000 pictures and works great.

In my camera case, I have my Canon Powershot A720 IS. It is a great camera. It took the picture in my avatar--dh thinks he's claimed it, but of the two P & S we have, it is my favorite.

My new camera is my Nikon D60, which I snapped up quickly when the prices dropped to make way for the newer cameras.

My dream camera is a Nikon D300, but it is not in the budget--perhaps I should only do Disney once in a year for it. . .

I took my old camera (Canon 30D) out to play Wednesday evening, to photograph the final dress rehearsal of an outdoor production of "Midsummer Night's Dream". The stage lighting was going to be dim for a lot of the play and I still think the 30D does better than my Xsi in low light. I also still prefer the handling of the xxD series although the new Rebels have come a long way.
Many of the photographs were taken at ISO 1600 and NeatImage helps a lot. If I am going to do much of this I really need full frame but it would be less $$$ to pay off the lighting people to crank up the brightness!

It is so different than photographing stage shows at WDW, I have free run of the place including backstage. Anyway, it was a fun (and hectic) evening as it usually is when photographing stage performances. Right, Alan?
