Do you still need to get a hand stamp when you leave a park?

We will have MYW w/pk hopper. Does the new finger scan replace having your hand stamped if you plan on leaving a park and then returning, or hopping parks?

Yes you still need a hand stamp. Some CM's may say you don't but the signs are still up in the park telling you if you plan on returning to get a hand stamp and be sure to have your ticket.

I think until the signs come down it is a good idea to get the hand stamp. You will run into cm's that won't let you in without one. It's so easy to do why not just get your hand stamped?

I left and re-entered EPCOT on Tuesday without getting my hand stamped. I did see the signs and asked, but was told I didn't need to.

I am sure that they will still stamp hands because you do not need the finger scan for 1 day tickets.

I have never had anyone actually check my handstamp at disney. Has anyone checked for yours? They did at Universal, but not disney.

Not sure if this is 100% accurate, but DH and I were leaving MK one day a few months ago when I finally had a chance (i.e. not a line of people behind me to delay) to ask a CM what the hand stamps were used for. He explained that in the case of a power outage/computer down situation when you can't put your ticket through as usual, the CM at the gate can ask if you'd had your hand stamped already at another park and check that and your ticket and let you in; otherwise, without a hand stamp and only the ticket, you'd have to wait for the computer to come back on and put it through as usual. Anyone else heard this before?

It was kind of funny how I decided to ask, though. This particular CM was repeating over and over again that the hand stamp did not replace your park ticket and to make sure you still had your park ticket to get into other parks. That prompted me to ask what the deal was with the hand stamps. :earboy2:

We were told in April to have our hands stamped. The CM said if the biometric scan glitched when entering another park having your hand stamped would speed up your getting in. All the CM at the turnstile would have to do was check the stamp & in you go. Made sense to me!

Just a hand stamp experience ....

I was there in July (pre biofinger ticket) so of course I had my hand stamped... now its late emh at MK, and it was a very hot day... we go on the "Pooh" ride, and in the glow in the dark... my legs are glowing, my arms... I'm LOL at this ride, then, well how come no one else has the glow that I have? and DH and DD are :rotfl: my face IS glowing!!

Finally realized, it was the hand stamp, my perspiration helped move the stamp all over me!! :rotfl2:

That makes sense!

When I went on the Keys to the Kingdom tour in January, the CM who was our tour guide to us that the handstamp is to ensure that you are the person who already used your ticket. This is so you can't go into a park and leave, and give your ticket to someone else to use later in the day. Who'd bother to do that, I don't know!

When we left MK and Epcot a couple of days last week, we were told they were not stamping hands anymore. They didn't have anything out, so we couldn't have even said go ahead and do it anyway. I wasn't paying attention at MGM.

Last week we actually ask leaving MK because we knew we were going to Epcot and they said they weren't doing it anymore.
We did a lot of park hopping after that and never had a problem.

With a park hopper ticket (or MYW with hopping or whatever) WHY would you need to have your hand stamped? I don't understand. If I felt like it couldn't I just run in and out of the turnstiles ALL DAY? DH doesn't understand the hand stamping philosophy, either. :confused3

I was told I didn't need to get my hand stamped either. One CM at the MK refused to give us a handstamp saying we don't need too.

We were there last week and told if your tickets used the finger scan you did NOT need a handstamp. Since your scan must match your ticket, you can't go out and hand it off to someone else to use.

Last month, when leaving both MK and Epcot I asked for hand stamps for my family, and both times I was told they're unnecessary, and the CMs even pointed out to me that they didn't have any hand stamping equipment with them. I stopped asking after that second time. I was at all 4 parks over 7 days, hopped around like a bunny and there were no issues.

>>> I stopped asking after that second time ...

Always ask for a hand stamp each time you leave a park. You never know when the turnstile attendant at the next time might want to see a hand stamp. At least you will then be able to tell the latter CM that the former CM refused to give you a hand stamp.

I did some research with Disney and the handstamp policy is changing. All tickets will be ticket tagged meaning you will have to do the finger scan. This applies to all previous tickets as well as the Magic your Way tickets. They will be having you sign your name on the tickets and you must have ID if the ticket tag doesn't work.

So my take is that old tickets will no longer be able to be shared among the family. Once your ticket is tagged with your scan no one else will be able to use the ticket.

If you have a hopper, you DO NOT need a hand stamp. The ticket alone will get you in. That is the great thing about the hopper.

Just did it for 8 days this month and never got a stamp once.
