We got rid of our land line in 2006, realizing that nobody ever called us on the home phone anyway!

We have an alarm system that has both police and fire department direct call buttons on it, so we have that as a backup to calling 911 from our cell phones in the event of an emergency.

I finally got rid of our landline in March. We had AT&T and it was a PITA to finally be rid of them. I had to call 5 times to over the course of 3 months speaking to customer "service" representatives each time to re-explain my original discussion and the date on which service would end. They kept sending me bills and then would give me a credit and then another bill. It was ridiculous. And, of course, each time ended with "thank you for allowing AT&T to be your service provider." Are you insane?! Anyway, very glad to be done with the landline. I meant to get rid of it as soon as DD went off to college, but waited a few months.

We haven't had a land line since 2001 and have never missed it. Our kids don't have cell phones, yet. They are rarely home alone but if both my husband and I have to be out, one of us leaves our phone with the kids in case of emergency.

But, what's most annoying is I haven't figured out how to turn off the "show incoming calls on the TV screen" thing.

:)

On your cable remote, there should be a button for SETTINGs. Click on it when you're watching TV some night. Then in settings on your tv screen you should see something about Phone, click on that and it should give you options, one of which is to turn off/on the Caller ID.

We technically do because government and doctor's offices have that number. But really, we *never* use it and even almost never answer it... Both DW and I and all three kids have cell phones

We really should just get rid of it.

yes because it's bundled with cable and internet, we don't get as good a package deal without it. DD and I don't use it. We just moved in with my aging parents. they have lots of medical calls, they use it.

We currently have a landline, but not for too much longer. We'd been toying with getting rid of it for awhile, but the final straw was our last Comcast Xfinity bill which topped $237 for phone/cable/internet. The only calls we get on our landline are from my parents and telemarketers. My parents will just have to get used to calling us on our cells, which we've been trying to get them to do for a long time now. I've just been dreading the call to Comcast to drop from the Triple Play bundle down to the Double Play. Dropping the landline and down a few tiers on the cable (goodbye HGTV), but keeping the Blast internet, should lower our bill by at least $100 per month. That's money we can put in our vacation savings account.

We have a landline because it is cheaper to pay for fios internet/phone package than it is just fios internet.

Don't miss the landline at all, happy about saving the $800+ each year :)

It didn't quote you asking what kind of cordless hook up we got, but I think my husband ordered it from Amazon and it's called Uniden Cell Link. I really like it because if I misplace my phone as long as it is in the house all the phones ring. We set it up to my phone because that is the number we give out to doctor's offices, pre-school etc. We sort of made that our main line. but you have to make sure your phone is charged because if your cell phone is dead, then it doesn't connect obviously- so I have had to be good about that! Once we got used to it, I love it.

Wow. My landline is $420 a year with good old ATT. My cellphone is almost double that $828 a year with Verizon.

We still have a landline. We get some calls on it, I don't give my cell # out except family and friends. The main reason we keep it is 911. Cell service is spotty here, and it isn't always quick for 911 to find you (DH is a paramedic and part time 911 dispatcher, he insists we keep it for that reason).

We added it to our cable internet package and pay $5/month for it.

$5.00 for land line is worth it for sure.. :)

We were paying $130.00 a month for a landline and internet. We never used it, didn't even have a phone hooked up so one day I called our provider and that simple phone called saved me $100.00 a month. :cool1:

We still have a line that we get our high speed internet and what they call Emergency Service line which is like $6.00 a month and allows us to call out to emergency numbers..

Virtually NO cell service where I live in NH (but if I drive to another part of the neighborhood there is good signal....:confused3 ), so we MUST keep a landline.... in fact, we have two! We have the home line that we have had for 20 years and DH has an VOIP line for work...................P

we dont have "cell service" in our rural area either but I bought this box from Verizon that is like a cell booster that gets a signal via the internet or something. it works well.

Dropped the two landlines a few years back and have only missed them just recently for about a week.

There was some kind of cell tower outage in my neighborhood and none of our cells would work at home. It was pretty annoying....but we got through it and cells are working fine.

Meanwhile, Verizon gets no money from me! I dropped 2 landlines and 3 cell lines with Verizon because of their cruddy service and high prices, but mostly their bad customer service.

Picked up cells with other carriers so savings were about $100 a month.

Yes we do. It's a whopping $2 a month extra on our cable/Internet plan, and it's the only way the kids can reach me if they get home from school before I get home. Plus they can use it in emergencies to call 911.

Yes. I don't want to get rid of ours. I don't like my kids talking on cell phones (I am like the EMF police! LOL) and don't find those handsets that hook up to cell phones to work all that well. Plus I feel like our landline is more reliable than our cell phones a lot of the time. Although we live in the country so service isn't always widely available.

We don't get much of any telemarketing calls. Actually I get more on my cell (also on the list) than the landline.

Yes I have a land line with a phone with answering system Cell phone service is good but not in the house ( live in a pretty rural area ) Now my 82 y/o Aunt in NY can hear me clearly with a regular phone Not thrilled about $65 a month for phone & internet but what can you do ?

Unlisted/non-published number I don't think I ever got telemarketer calling

I have WHP (Wireless Home Phone), which is like a combo landline and cell service because it is a cell phone number on a wireless base station which plugs into my wall jack and turns all of my old wall jacks and regular phones into wireless connections. I also have a Comcast VoIP line which is used for ....nothing. I dont even know the number to it! ;)

We have a landline but only because it is cheaper for us to "bundle" internet, TV and landline phone than it is for us just to purchase internet and television. Or so they tell me each time I call to see about dropping the landline phone. We never use it. Quite frankly, it's a pain because the only people who call regularly on that number are telemarketers. I really should just unplug our house phones and be done with it but I haven't yet.
