Do you still bring your nice camera even if you’ve purchased memory maker?

im trying to decide if I need my dslr since we have memory maker or my phone is good enough. Are big cameras just in the way? Will I get annoyed by lugging it out of my book bag? I’m really thinking out loud on this. Lol. So do people bring their real cameras or just phone it?

I bring my phone, my nice camera that we use for vlogging and my big camera that I use for taking really nice pictures. But I also spend a LOT of time taking pictures at WDW. Photography is my hobby. We also do the Photopass pictures since we are AP holders.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Depends on what you take pictures of.

If you are planning to take scenery, architecture, animals, zoom, creative etc shots you might want the big boy.

If you are planning mostly candid, family, a few background shots .. most phones these day are pretty good at that.

Mostly parades and family I think. Good point about if I want to get fancier. I don’t really. Lol

Although I take some pics with my phone, I always bring a camera as well. I brought my point & shoot one year and I have learned my lesson, as it is just so inferior to my DSLR, so I'm back to lugging that around every trip. However, I will only bring one versatile lens as it's too heavy to lug a bag full of lenses as well. I brought a tripod last Christmas and didn't use it once so never again.

I for sure will only bring one lens! I really only have three, so I’d bring my good all around one.

I am a photographer so take that as your caveat, but I always bring mine when we travel. I didn’t bring it to the parks every day though, some days I knew we had a character meal or other interaction that I wanted to make sure I had great photos of, other days (or half days) I stuck to my phone. We have DL AP’s and I do the same thing. Some days I’ll hring it if I think something exciting will happen or we are celebrating something, other days I leave it at home and shoot with my iPhone 8plus. Luckily the phone quality is amazing, if it weren’t I would probably have my DSLR on me all the time.

I took my DSLR in 2016 and will again next year. I didn't bring my big zoom lens, as much of what I wanted to shoot, I needed a wider range anyway, but I never regretted having it. However, photography is my hobby and I do keep a very updated family blog and make Shutterfly memory books, too. So I rely heavily on having lots of photos that I have personally taken. I was worried about lugging it around and was also worried about having a place to put it on rides, but never found that to me a problem. I just took a comfortable little backpack to store it in and a very big Ziploc baggy to cover it up with if I was worried about it getting wet.

Absolutely! I'll take some iphone pics for Instagram but nothing compares to the quality of my DSLR. When it's bright and sunny out, having a viewfinder is so much better than squinting at your phone screen.

I use my big camera for the Kilimanjaro Safari and AK. I’m excited about photographing Pandora. I also like getting a lot of detail pictures. I only lug it for one day at each park though, and not normally for HS.

I always bring my nice Sony A99ii even when I purchase memory maker. I like capturing photos of my family and the park on my own, photos from Memory Maker is just a bonus with me in it lol.

I just had my first trip with just memory maker and my iphone 8 plus. I usually had a DSLR with me. I don't regret leaving it at home at all. It was refreshing not to have to lug it around.

That’s the phone I have too. Did you get great photos with it? Mines new.

Get the Camera+ app for your iPhone 8. I took my DSLR two trips ago, and used that app for my most recent trip, and I swear I got nicer landscape photos this time around. Portraits are solid, too. It has a focus and exposure feature that really help. The downside is the zoom, low light, and action shots.

Honestly, though? It was a huge relief not carrying the big, bulky DSLR this time around. And I didn't feel like I was slowing up my family as much, either.

ETA Camera+ photo (though I substantially reduced the image size: there is a RAW capability with this app):
