Do you smoke cigarettes?

I don't. I grew up with parents that were both very heavy smokers. Then, as the teenage years approached, my siblings all started smoking. Even from the time I was a kid, I was always totally grossed out by smoking so I never even tried once. Not that it really matters because I inhaled 20 years of second-hand smoke when I lived at home!

My DH doesn't smoke either, thank goodness.

Now that I'm in my 40's, I'm super-sensitive to that horrible smoky smell. When co-workers go out for a 'cigarette break', I can smell it on them when they get back in the office. When I go to visit my parents, all I can smell is that horrible tobacco smell until I have an opportunity to change my clothes (usually the exact moment I get home!). I smell it in my hair until I shampoo it. I smell it on my purse. Ugh, I wish they would quit. If cigarettes are doing that to clothing, I can't even imagine what it's doing to their lungs. But, sadly, they are so addicted that they probably will never quit.

So, do you smoke? If so, when did you start? When did you quit?

not to start a debate or anything...but you are pretty much bashing stinky smokers.
smokers know they smell...some know they offend others with their smell...

it's a hard habit to quit.

you could ask the question without being so demeaning.

I don't smoke.

Not that I didn't TRY it. But thankfully never became addicted to it. I can only imagine how hard it must be to quit.

Nope. Even if it didn't affect my allergies I still wouldn't. I just don't want to.

Yes I smoke - I smoke about 5 cigarettes a day and enjoy each and every one of them.

Neither of us. DH's mother is a chain smoker and, like you, I also change my clothes the moment I get home. I make everyone change clothes and shower/bathe. I do not want that smell in my home at all. My parents do not smoke altho my father chews tobacco(they live on a cattle farm).
My DH used to dip Skoal but quit because I refused to kiss him if I could smell it on his breath. He quit by shredding hamburger pickles in a blender and laying the mess out to dry in the sun and using it as an alternative. He will pick up a can of Peach Skoal and use it when we visit my parents to help them with the farm like tagging or castration. He said the urge does return for a day or so but he quits cold turkey when we leave my parents.
I am not bashing smokers for smelling like they do and neither was Kim&Chris. We just don't like the smell of tobacco smoke.

Sorry, not meant to bash anyone. Certainly not meant to be demeaning, so try not to be sensitive :)

Just talkin' to y'all!

Never, it's disgusting. I don't like to be around it and luckily in California it's easy to avoid it. I don't have any family, friends or even coworkers that smoke.

Yes, but what's the point of this thead? A little bored? You don't smoke, good for you. You will never be stinky and I am sure that you do not wear any kind of scents, right? Because I get severe headaches from strong perfumes...I think perfume should be banned.

Sadly even though it may sound demeaning everything the OP said is true. I also grew up in a house full of smoke. After daddy died we tried painting the bedroom white and the nicotine on the walls honestly would not come off. You could spray cleaner and it would run yellow down the walls. It was gross.

I also hate the smell. On rare occasions, DH has to switch work trucks with someone and if he gets a truck with someone who smoked he can literally walk in the house and you can smell it. You do have to shower to get it out of your hair.

It is very addicting just like many other things (I'm addicted to Diet Coke) and believe me I KNOW how hard it is to quit. I've tried giving up my Diet Coke for water and just cna't do it 100 percent. I know most people who smoke wish they could quite and know how smelly it is not to mention dangerous. I wish there was an easy answer to an addiction, sadly there isn't.

Folks....Sorry, I never meant to offend anyone with this post, believe me. Please don't think that I wrote it for that reason.

I know so many people that smoke and that I love dearly. Just wish they never started.

yup smoke about a pack aday,, and yeah i know people dont like the smell,, how ever, i cannot stand being around perfumes and colognes, especially heavy ones and since almost everyone wears those,, i dont complain, i live wit those odors,, i figure other people can live with my smoke odor. i wont smoke in a non smokers car, nor in acustomers house unless inviteed to join the homeowners

No, I never have. I don't care if other people do though, as long as it is not in my house. DH used to smoke, he quit because he got tired of going outside. LOL.

I am a lifelong nonsmoker.
After seeing my mom die of a heart attack in front of me at age 46, she had just turned 46, after putting out her smokes,,
Well that made me even more determined never to try it.
