As to pronouncing it with a SH sound even though it's not spelled that way- when has the English language ever followed hard and fast rules of spelling and pronunciation?

The man who sells you your grow-shrees is your Grow-sher, not your Grosser!

The whole time I have been reading this post I have said the word over and over. I think I say it differently depending on if it's singular or plural? I have no idea. The more I say it, the more stupid I sound.

Deesknee - Your post made me laugh! I am from Maryland, my DH is from Philly and we have the whata/werter debate at our house often! He says werter, my girls and I say it the correct way - WATER. teehee. I always ask him what werter is!? Too funny. Maybe another poll idea.

we call it "Super Wal Mart" or groshries. With a family of 4 I call it @ $200.00 a trip.
