do you say Grace when you are at a restaurant?

I say, GRACE, eat your food, GRACE, dont' spill, Grace, act like a human instead of a monkey!!!, No seriously, we say Grace before every meal, whether at home or out.

We don't say grace at home so obviously that means we don't say it out either. Growing up we said grace at home. Personally I don't think it had a big impact on my moral values so I don't stress saying grace now that we have DD. We talk about God, being a good person, caring for others etc. a lot. It's great for those that do say it but I don't think it's a big deal if you don't.

Yes, we do. We've had other customers tell us when they were leaving the restaurant how touching it was to see our family prayer together.

Robin, My DH recently went on a 10 mountain biking trip with 7 other men to Colorado. He was in town Sunday morning and found a church to go to while he was there. He went alone although all 7 other men attend church regularly. Sorry to say, I wouldn't have went either. DH has always done this--even while pheasant hunting in SD or Nebraska.
I wish I was more like that also.

No. But then we don't say it at home either. Religion just isn't a big part of our lives at all. I don't ever feel wierd or uncomfortable when I see somebody else do it, though.

Of course, I would also never assume that anyone who did say grace at a restaurant was a "good" person or was raisng a "good" family. It's obvious, to me anyway, that one has nothing to do with the other.

I honestly don't want to turn this into a debate but why do many people equate going to church, saying grace etc with being a devout Christian? There are many people who lead an exemplary Christian life who don't go to church regularly, say grace or even pray for that matter.

And while it is our habit to hold hands as we thank God for our food, I do not believe we disturb anyone around us by doing so.

If we didn't say it in a fast food resteraunt, we would never say it while eating out since that is about the only type we go to as a family!

Well, not to get "preachy" or anything but if you are a Christian then you believe the bible to be Gods word. In Hebrews 10:25 it says "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together" which mean Christians should gather together to pray and uplift each other in Gods word.
Matthew 21:22 says "All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall recieve".

All I am saying is if you are a "devout" Christian then you will follow Gods commandments as set forth in the Bible that speaks about going to church and spending time in prayer. I'm sorry, but I don't see how one can be devout if they don't follow what God wants us to do.

We don't... really never have. We didn't while we were growing up either, which is part of the reason...just not something we are used to.

My DH had a more religious upbringing than I did, so on special occasions such as holidays, when the (his) whole family is together, we will say grace.

I am thinking back now, after reading this thread, and I can't say I've ever seen someone do this in a restaurant. I don't think I'd feel funny about it, but since I don't think I've ever seen this, I'd take notice I'm sure.

NC Beast and I do sometimes say prayer/grace at resteraunts. We do it more if there other friends/family around sharing the meal out.

We say grace at home, but not in restaurants. When I was in college I did because it was such a habit - many people did in the cafeteria - usually a brief silent head bow. I am still more likely to say grace silently if I am by myself than with a group. My issue with it is that public group praying sometimes makes me uncomfortable and can draw attention. These are the last things I want when I am praying, so I'd rather wait. If we are skipping the prayer one of us tends to say "thank you God for this good food" as we are grabbing our food - then the rest of us say "amen" with our mouths full. Not very reverant, but it briefly reminds us where it all comes from.

Yes, we say Grace at every meal, whether at home or out. I find that we say it more if we eat together... if we are all running in different directions then we may not say it. Another reason for the family dinner table, huh? We also say it if others are joining us for a meal.
We don't hold hands when we pray, but we do bow our heads. My DS 11 even says it at school at lunch time.

I am an atheist so we don't say it home or out at a restaurant. During the holidays my family all gets together and they say grace, I just remain quiet until they are done.

Actually, my comment was to another person who was talking about her ILs who were on a cruise and went to church on board.
