Do you save old messages on your answering machine?

My Dad passed away over 4 years ago, but I still have two messages he left that I never erased. Sometimes I call my machine and hear his voice :goodvibes I used to have one from my Mom, but it got erased. :guilty:

Does anyone else do this?

I erase them as soon as I listen to them.

I used to have an old answering machine that still required the tape. Anyway, I have saved on there my best friends voice (who passed away in 1998) & my favorite uncle who passed away in 1997. I listened to it last year sometime & it just made me cry that I missed them both so much. I don't think I'm ready just yet to listen to it again for now but I'm hanging on to it for a later date.

I may save them for a short time if I need a reminder of something but they get erased after that. I think it's great you have your dad's voice to hear when you want/need to though. Sorry the one from your mom got erased.

Myst

I have a bunch of messages saved...mostly ones from my niece. princess:

My mom has kept my dad's voice on the answering machine at the cottage--he passed away about 2 1/2 years ago. At first, it freaked me out when I'd call and hear him and I'd start to cry. Then later, I'd call sometimes when I knew Mom wasn't there so I could hear him because...well, just because I wanted to hear his voice.

We were all really upset this summer when Mom accidentally erased it. I tried to see if I could get it back this summer but we weren't able to.

I saved a funny message from my dad and one from my brother. I listen to it when I need a laugh.

My dad passed away almost 5 years ago, and shortly after that I called the house to talk to mom, but the machine with his voice came on. It was kind of comforting. I mentioned it to my brother and I guess he thought it upset me, so he erased it. I wish we had kept it.

I would absolutely keep a message like that. You are lucky to have it. :)

I wish there was a way for me to hear my grandmother's voice again. If I had a message from her on my machine I would listen to it all the time :(

I also keep old messages from my husband. It's nice to hear his voice on the days I'm really missing him...

With the answering machine we have now we can't really keep any messages long. Everytime the electricity flickers the least bit it erases everything. Frustrating since it happens once or twice a month at least.
When my dd's bf Titus was in Iraq I would tape his messages off of the answering machine so that she could listen to them later. Sometimes I'd hear her play it over and over and over and over and over...you get the point, lol.

When my DH goes out of town on business he always calls to let me know he got there safely, and it's usually after I have gone to work myself so he just leaves a message on the machine. I do not erase it until after he gets home. I am a worrier, always praying for his safety on the roads, and God forbid if something happened to him I would be glad to have his voice on the machine.

Someone said they wished they had their grandparents' voice, I have mine on a 1-hour cassette tape, and my parents on a 1-hour video tape. What I did was ask them questions, about their childhoods, how they met, about their wedding, their jobs, etc. I will treasure those tapes forever.
