Do you "sanitize" your room when you first get there?

I am concerned/paranoid that housekeeping won't change the sheets between guests. As far as comforters go...yuck. I've been tempted to ask for a freshly laundered comforter/bed spread in the past. Has anyone ever done this?

BTW, we have a grocery chain that has sanitizing wipes to use on your cart as you walk in. They have the same wipes in the meat dept. I LOVE it.

I always check the sheets, pillows, bathroom, under the bed and spray things down with lysol spray too.

The remote in a ziplock a great idea.

I cannot even imagine letting a baby crawl on a floor in a public building.

Oh and yes, I do call at WDW when we get into the room and ask for "freshly laundered blankets and bedspreads". Call housekeeping, they will send them right over. Then I can relax about the kids sitting on the beds.

And, I did find blood on the underside of one of WDW's bedspeads and once A Bandaid :crazy2:

I work in a field where I see what germs/bacteria look like and what it can do to you so yes I am paranoid.... If driving.... life is easier but if flying ....we have to stop at Publix at rt 192 to get all the stuff we need. Clorox for the tub to soak in while soaking the tub.. I wipe the toilet bowl, sink, all the handles, bathroom floor, remote control, phone with 100% bleach... family leaves me in the room to satisfy this need to clean... everybody brings/buy flip flops ( dollar store) for the room. (I know this is total paranoia) Brings my own sheet Sets ( buys the cheapest one since it will stays there, never to go home with us and tells mousekeeper that its fine no need to change sits nor worry about comforters ) so I have to make sure if we are having full/queen/king room. Thank God we never get cold and never needs comforter just the sheets with our jammies on is fine. We bring our own Towels but still use towel from the hotel for the floor. After all this chores is done .. maybe about 30 to 1 hour.... I can have my ice cold coffee change to my most relaxing vacation outfit and put my feet up and relax maybe even take a snooze in my home smelling pillows... Sick to some of you yes... but when you see x number of people getting sick you might want to think twice.. Public bathrooms... if we really need/have too I have a pack of disposable toilet bowl sit and wipes in my bag and Also thank god for Purell. DN nephew has a weak immune system and I cannot afford getting him sick out of state! :wizard:

Just curious....because I saw an erlanger symbol in your post. :flower: LOL. I work there too.

Goodness NO! I drop my stuff and head to the parks! Life is TOO short!

I'm not a clean freak by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, I am a slob. However, other peoples grime bothers me. For that reason, when I check into a hotel room the first thing I do is pull back the bed clothes and check the sheets carefully to make sure they are clean. I unpack my borax and clean the tub. If I think there is cockroaches there, I sprinkle borax around the perimiter of the room. I only do this if I will be in the room at least 14 nights- otherwise it is not effective. (We do not have cockroaches where we live. I even leave my suitcase, unpacked, in a freezing garage for a few days after I get home in case I bring any little stow-aways home with me. My sister says this is ineffective since the cockroaches have survived the ice age, but I feel Florida bugs might not be able to stand the cold.) I bring my own universal remote with me. This helps even more, because the hotel remote doesn't have a sleep mode on it but the tv's do. I then put the bedspread on the floor, and pour water on it. I next call housekeeping for a fresh bedspread. The blankets I don't worry too much about, since they are sandwiched between the bedspread and the sheets, both clean. I wish I could pack my own pillows, but there is simply not enough room.

Nope sorry I don't. We use the remotes, sleep in the beds, walk on the floor barefoot. Take showers. Still alive and have never come home sick.

Maybe its because I got a room just occupied by someone who did the whole cleaning process

I think it's actually a tad bit healthier because we have built up an immunity.

However, when we first went back to Disney after my youngest son was born (he was 10 months when we went) we got back and he had been exposed to Chicken Pox while down there. Didn't bother me, I was actually glad so he didn't have to get that stupid chicken pox vaccine.

So you see there is more germs going into the parks, on the rides, handrails, benches, bathrooms and everything else than in the hotel rooms (which a majority of everyone here claims they are hardly are in the rooms anway ;) )

I guess I don't understand why people need to clean a room when they arrive. As the saying when I grew up said "a little dirt never hurt anyone". It builds up immunities. Someone also said that just rinsing your hands at the bathroom sink does no good-urine is sterile and drinkable. I don't advise it except in extreme-extreme situations. Has anyone noticed all the stainless steel fixtures and panels on the doors- it has been proven that germs cannot live on the surface and by law stainless steel must be used. The good thing is each to his own If it makes you feel better do it but it is liking closing the gate after the dog has gotten out The germs are everywhere and in everything and all that the overcleaning has done is create super bugs that nothing will be able to cure in the future. and for the over cleaning people did you ever see the micro bugs that live on your skin. They are some ugly looking bugs.

What on earth do you do that makes you that paranoid? I've spent 20+ years as a clinical microbiologist (believe me, I know germs), and I've never worried about Disney's rooms for even a second. We've been staying in Disney properties for 28 years. We've never had a problem. Not one. Zip. Nada. And that's without all the Clorox, Lysol, Purell, personal towels, sheets, pillows, and toity covers. We even actually (gasp!) walk on the floors.

Why waste time and money with all that junk? Go to a park. Have fun.

I'm a biologist and I'm the same way. The only thing I have started doing recently is checking for traces of bedbugs, and that's because I don't want to bring them home with me. I'm exposed to more nasty things at work then I could ever be in a hotel room!

Bed bugs are interesting. They are about the only things that put me off. If you find them, immediately move all your stuff out in the hall and get another room! Anything we do about them as guests won't help.

And I hear you about the ick at work. A Disney bathroom is a sterile surface in comparison. They just don't worry me.

Thank you to all who clean the rooms after mousekeeping does their thing. I just hope when we show up there in November we are following you. Also, please leave an envelope so we know where to send the roomkeeping tip. Otherwise those nasty germs will get their chance with me. Never have, never will......

I take the bed cover off and I wipe down the remote. :crazy2:

Otherwise, considering what we touch in the PARKS each day, what differance does it make?

Tell me this isn't true! Am I stupid. I thought all the linens including blankets and comforters get washed after each guess. :bitelip:

A copy of an article I just read yesterday:

Dirty Laundry
The good news: hotel bedding is getting washed more often.
The bad: Not everywhere
by Andrea Bennett
Those polyester floral bedspreads that once used to grace the beds at every major hotel chain in the United States are finally being phased out. Their busy patterns weren't just ugly—they also conveniently hid dirt and stains, allowing hotels to wash them infrequently. Recently, though, companies such as Marriott, Hilton, and Crowne Plaza have been replacing the old spreads with bright white duvets that have removable covers, which are presumably easier to launder. But even if travelers can be pretty sure they're getting newly washed duvet covers at luxury chains such as Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons, the unfortunate truth is that most hotels still aren't cleaning their bedspreads or duvet covers between each guest.
Laundering frequency can vary wildly within the same hotel chain, says Bjorn Hanson, head of the leisure practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Starwood says its Sheraton and Westin duvet covers are "carefully inspected every day" by housekeeping for dirt and wrinkles and changed "as necessary." Hilton's housekeepers eyeball duvets daily, says spokeswoman Jeanne Datz Rice, and duvet covers at busier resorts, where guests are more likely to stain them with suntan oils, get washed "every few weeks." Wyndham says its staff scrutinizes bedding on a daily basis, but adds that each room undergoes a "deep cleaning [only] once per quarter." Crowne Plaza's duvet covers are laundered "as often as necessary," according to a spokeswoman. A more welcome stance for travelers concerned about the cleanliness of their bedding comes from Marriott, which is the only large-scale hotel company that now guarantees duvet covers are washed between guests—at least at its higher-end Marriott, J.W. Marriott, and Renaissance hotels.

all of that lysol spray and bleach. After one stay in the ICU for my lungs, exposure to all of the aerosols and bleach fumes would do me in. I love clean, don't get me wrong but I can't imagine doing the type of cleaning described here. As an ICU nurse, we see fewer children with infections who have been in a daycare or preschool setting as little ones because they have the immunity from exposure to illness. Overprotection is not always a good thing. All of that said, whatever you need to do to make your family happy is okay with me. Threehearts

I don't worry about it. More germs on handrails throughout the park.

And, what about those silver handrails on the monorails? Ever see someone sneeze into their hands and then grab right on to one of the handrails?

When I rent a condo I do wash the dishes before I use them and wash the kitchen floor and the bathroom. Put away the bedspread.

At a resort that I have had to fly to, though, I don't take up space in the suitcase for cleaning supplies. I really hadn't thought about it, but realize from reading this thread that I should have, cleaning the phone, the remote, the light switches and toilet flush handle. I do always wash my hands before eating. I feel like a surgeon- I wash for 15 seconds with soap and warm running water, with the paper towel held under my arm, then dry, then turn off the faucet with the towel, then open the door with the towel and toss the towel in a nearby container or take it with me if there is none and put it out of the way at the table. When in a motel room, I am careful at first to not put my bare foot on the carpet, but that soon passes and I go barefoot. I don't touch the blankets at a motel. If it is cold I keep the sheet folded down over the blanket so I won't have to touch the blanket. If I can, I take my own pillow, it's creepy to think about pillows at at motel- the thin cases can't keep out many germs.

I go straight to the bathroom and use a Lysol or Clorox wipe on the flush handle of the toilet...

I do the same thing too. Also don't forget the TV remote.
