Do you return makeup?

I shop mostly at WM and have returned makeup (llipstick/gloss) that I did not like the color once I got it home with no problem. I was honest with them as to why I was returning it and no problem. Also, I have had the need to return hairspray when I was searching for a new brand. No problem plus I didn't wait as I returned them within a couple days along with receipt.

If you have a Sephora store nearby, they have a GREAT return policy. Plus, the best part is you can try anything in their store on your face before you buy.

I also return make-up to Rite Aid without any problem. Why should you get stuck with a foundation that you paid for that looks different on your skin than what it looks like in the bottle?

I'm currently looking for a new mascara. If each one doesn't live up to its "hype," it's going back until I find the perfect one, lol.

Back when I used drugstore stuff, my skin was always broken out b/c it clogged my pores...so I needed a product for that.(little did I know, it was the foundation causing it) I also needed a separate concealer and a powder. So I was actually paying way more for the drugstore stuff at a much lesser quality.

My BareEscentuals foundation is good for my skin, is multi-functional as a concealer, foundation and powder, and my current container of it has lasted me at least 3 months...and I know I'll get at least one more if not 2 out of it. And I use make up nearly every day.

But to answer the actual question, yes I would return something the the drugstore that didn't match my skintone.

I agree...I also only Make-up Forever from Sephora (for cover up and foundation). It is more expensive than the drugstore brands, but I NEVER have to reapply throughout the day, it goes on even and looks incredibly natural. I have NEVER had a problem with my skin since I started purchasing it. I find it lasts longer, it feels better, it is just all around a better quality product, and completely natural. I love that you can request a sample of anything from Sephora as well in case you have sensitive skin, and they all too eager to accommodate you. And sometimes, even their samples last weeks! Their rewards program is amazing...I've loved everything that I have gotten from it. I also love the birthday gifts that I get every year....I use these for travelling!

You can find foundation at the drug store/super store that doesn't clog pores. Look for makeup that is NON-COMEDOGENIC. It is formulated not to clog pores.

Personally, I can't use Bare Escentuals. It makes my skin itch like crazy. I use Everyday Minerals without any problems.

Do I return makeup? Absolutely. That's why I love Sephora, because they have such a great return policy (online orders can be returned FREE - they pay the shipping!) And it works out in their favor because it makes me a loyal customer and I end up spending way too much money there.

I have only once and it was to QVC. It was a certain brand that said it would be good for my skin and it kept leaving this waxy build up on my face so I returned it. But, QVC encourages you to return things that you are not satified with plus it was $$ and I could'nt throw it away. But, if it had been cover girl, maybeline, those type brands I wouldn't have.

I wouldn't return it to a drugstore, WalMart, etc because I didn't like the color once I opened it. I just chalk that up to I made a bad choice, so the store (and everyone who shops there) shouldn't have to eat the cost.

Now if it were a situation where I'm in a department store, and the associate sold me the makeup, then my answer might change. In that case, part of the cost is the associate's expertise. If she chose a bad color for me, then it's partly her responsibility.

You can return makeup to most drugstores, Sephora, and all major cosmetic counters. You can also return to independent saleswomen from beauty brands like Avon or Mary Kay.

Mentioned above but my make-up choice is also Bare Escentuals. And yes if you have access to a Sephora store they will do a make-over on you & you can try it out. I can actually use light or fairly light. They blend with your skin very well. In the summer if I pick up a bit of color I can add in a bit of warmth to darken it very slightly.

You can get starter kits at Sephora or a BE store. Great way to try it out. Also on QVC.

I'm saving for my biggie 500 pt reward Sephora is great...last year on my birthday I got a pack of 3 different lip glosses for free! Really pretty neutral colors that look good on anyone! Love it!

It might be formulated not to, but that doesn't make it so Foundation is such a personal thing, what is the holy grail for one person, is the worst for another.

Stores don't "eat" the cost, they send it back to the mfr and mfr passes the cost on. The mfr would rather have people return it if they don't like it and try something else anyway.

I use BE also, Sephora is great!! Last time I purchased any BE it was while at DLR, I bought it in DTD. Last time I was at DLR, Jan 10, so it's lasted a long time. It doesn't clog my pores or cause breakouts like other brands do, it covers well too.

Perhaps I'm the only one who's ever done this..but when I buy a new shade of foundation I go to the store without makeup on during the day when the light is bright and apply a small amount to my jawline and go outside. I can't believe that this has never been suggested to you by a makeup artist.

Granted you could probably return it or swap it out for another color but its no more convenient then to just walk outside with a mirror to see what the, color actually looks like under natural light and then go back in the store and pick the right color. You could test multiple colors at the same time like this and always get the perfect one. Or you could just go and buy and try at home and waste money on gas, time and be part of the reason why the cost of things continue to go up, do to waste of packaging materials, shipping and product for companies. I could understand if this is the first time you've ever purchased foundation. But I know many makeup artists and since the first time I ever bought foundation was with prescriptives when they used to do the color blending before I even purchased it I was sent outside with a mirror to be sure I was happy with the color tone. Just my opinion. Test all concealers, foundations and powders on your jaw line. Test all other colors shadows, eyeliners, lipsticks on you hand and before you even buy you can see if it goes with you.

I know that when I worked retail we did get credit from the mfr if/when we did makeup returns. I'm speaking from personal experience, I worked the front end, cashier, service desk, supervisor.....

That's why I said "most" stores don't have testers. The majority of stores mentioned in this thread are CVS, Target, Wal-Mart, discount stores, they do not have testers. Besides testers gross me out anyway so I don't use them.

I wasn't suggesting opening and sampling closed packages. That is disgusting and unethical in my opinion, since it would be equal to stealing. I can't speak on the return procedures or quality of pharmacy brand cosmetics and most stores do have samples only the pharmacies and mega-lo-marts don't. I only purchase my makeup at either cosmetic stores say sephora, mac or dept store, where they have testers. If you read my post I suggested that one go to the makeup counter and have the makeup artist assist you and then go out and look at the color in daylight before purchasing. I buy lots and lots of makeup. I like new color and honestly at this point in the game I know what works on my skin-tone without having to sample it.

If you don't have many stores in your area where you can test makeup I'd suggest next time your in Disney checking out the Guerlain and Givenchy stores in Epcot Paris, you could then sample some cosmetics before buying them. They have the complete collections for both brands something you actually won't find at any department store in the states for Givenchy and Guerlain sells some perfume you can only find in Paris.

? you said testers gross you out...Hence the suggestion you test on your hand..
