Do you return makeup?

I'm just curious how everyone feels on this matter. It's getting expensive buying foundation after foundation that doesn't match my skin tone. I was just wondering...do any of you return foundation to a drugstore if it doesn't end up working out?

I know "it's not the company's problem you picked the wrong color", however the lighting inside the store is SO different from natural lighting how ANYONE can get a good match without buying and taking it out of the store is beyond me.

I have no problems returning foundation to a Clinique counter as I have been told from all of the gals at the counter "if you're not 100% happy with it, bring it back and we'll try another color until you're happy!"

Is it wrong to do that with a drugstore foundation? It's not like they have "testers" so really, I can't even put a swatch on to walk outside and see how it looks before I decide on what color to purchase.

Or maybe I'm crazy and it's completely ok to return if you're not happy with the product even if that return is based on "bad color choice".:confused3

Tell me your thoughts on this....

Walgreens or CVS (I don't know which, but somebody on here does!) has a guarantee - if you don't like the makeup, you can bring it back, no questions asked. Hopefully, someone who knows all the details will chime in! :thumbsup2

I wouldn't bring it back. I'm surprised that stores allow even though I see your point about lighting.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure you can't return makeup or food.

I kind of thought the same thing, however with a quick Google search, I discovered that people return foundation to CVS, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid all the time with no problems whatsoever.:confused3 I typically buy from a make-up counter but it's so expensive and I've heard great things about Revlon Colorstay being "somewhat" comparable to Mac Studio Finish.

I just hate to buy and not like it and NOT be able to return it, like I can with MAC.

I buy a lot of things from Harmon's. They have a great return policy on everything. I've returned shampoos, makeup, etc. No problems whatsoever, and most times without a receipt (I will buy something to replace it though).

It may be cheaper to get it at the Cosmetic counter if you have that problem. My skin tone will actually take several shades and look okay. I usually buy Mary Kay and ran out so I went to Target to get some and it was $12.

Way back in the day, I worked at CVS, and we'd take back makeup. It wouldn't go back on the shelf though. ( obviously).

Sometimes, people have a reaction to the makeup. Most stores realize this. Now, you may not get a cash refund but you may get a store credit.

Rite Aid has (or did, I don't buy makeup often and haven't looked to see if it's still there) a sign in that department that it can be returned for any reason if you don't like it.

This is the main reason I'm hoping to buy from a drugstore...heck, I can buy 2 foundations and mix them to get the perfect color if I need to, and STILL be ahead in price at $12 a bottle with double the foundation!:)

For me, I do have a hard time finding a color that I feel truly matches...so I typically end up having to mix a couple colors, one more pink undertoned, one more yellow undertoned to get that perfect mix for different areas of my face. My cheeks are much more red than the rest of my face so I don't like to use the same color all over my whole face. I know...kind of a pain, but hopefully I can find some less expensive alternatives at a drug store.:lovestruc

I remember a few years back one of the chain drugstores was promoting, buy our makeup and return it for any reason if you don't like it. I can't remember who that was.

However I will say that this problem is one reason I have switched to department store brands. It actually saves me money to get the right color the first time. I do buy fun things like eye shadows and liners at Target, for me it's not like trying to match foundation, powder or concealor.

I agree with you on that...that's the main reason I switched to using Clinique/MAC for foundations too...it was just too hard to try to match it up. But...I'm willing to try a less expensive brand if I can get a good match...I just wish they had either sample sizes you could buy, or testers at the drugstore.

I may just try CVS and ask what their return policy is prior to buying.

I've returned make-up to Sephora before because my skin just didn't like it. They didn't put up a fuss or deny the return.

I've never done it, but I'm pretty sure I saw CVS advertise a few months ago that you could return makeup.

If you are within the return guidelines, then you should return it if you are not happy.

It never occurred to me to do that. But I stopped buying foundation at a drug store a long time ago for the very same problem. I didn't try to return it b/c I ended up using it more than once.

I use mineral makeup and have a much easier time with matching skin tone now--even though i buy it over the internet.

I returned foundation to CVS about a year ago. Got cash back with no problems.

Yes, CVS has it advertised in the store that you can return any health and beauty product if you are not satisfied. I have returned a few things. Nothing the fault of CVS, more that I didn't like the product. But it is CVS's policy and I follow it if I'm not happy with the product. Because of their policy, I am more likely to try a different product or brand, and I am sure that is their reason for the policy.

Yes you can return makeup AND food. Our grocery stores takes food back if it rots too soon and yes I've returned makeup before. To CVS, Target, WM, and I even returned some eyeliner that gave me eye issues to my grocery store. When I worked at Target we took it back too, we just marked it with a red defective label and returned it to the company.
