Do you rent? Have renter's insurance?

I'm shopping for renter's insurance, it's long overdue. I have Progressive for auto, but they don't offer renter's coverage. Any recommendations on a carrier? I've researched a few companies online so far:
Countrywide
State Farm (can't get an online qote for PA)
Allstate
Geico (twice the annual cost of Countrywide or Alltstate)

One thing Ive found with any insurance company is the more policies you have with them, the better the rates. You might try calling a local agent, and give them your vehicle info as well. Have them quote you both, and see what happens.

I do have rental insurance, I believe i pay like 140 a year for it. It is written with the same company (co-op) that I have my vehicles with. I have a detailed list with serial numbers, pictures etc... in my fire box, and a copy at my brothers house incase of fire etc.. so I dont have to fight as hard with the insurance company in that event.

I'll never forget when my dad's apartment building caught fire, they lost everything each renter did. My dad was the only one with rental insurance, and the only one able to replace the items lost and very little expense to him.

To me, the 140 a year, even if I never use it, is certain piece of mind

We rented for 5 years before buying our house last year. We had renter's insurance through State Farm and it was only about $12 a month (we are in PA also). We did have our other policies with State Farm so I know we got a multi policy discount but even without it the cost was not very much... and I believe that was for a $50,000 policy.

would renters insurance also help cover the cost of relocation in case of flood or fire?
How can you find a policy that gives replacement cost not a pro-rated purchase value? I have no receipts for anything.

Not sure about the relocation. We never had to give receipts. Our agent went down the list of what we had in the apartment and how much we thought it would cost to replace... we never even had to provide pictures or other documentation (although we did take pictures for our own records)

Your best bet is going to be calling a local agent and asking them the specifics of policies. This is one case when doing it on line might not be your best case.

Mine is replacement cost, not pro-rated. And because i have everything documented, even without receipts...it will be easier for me in the event of a fire or theft/loss. I do have some jewlery on a seperate rider policy, and that was all appraised first, my insurance agent has copies of my appraisal.

I prefer to pay more now, than be out later. For instance, even though this has nothing to do with rental- MUDNURI has an expensive policy. The truck, stock would have a value of about $3500 and thats what I would get if totalled with a regular policy, however i have about 10K invested in the truck in parts etc.. so my policy is not a standard policy. if I were to total this truck, the insurance would pay to rebuild another one with the same parts I have in my truck now...right down to the stereo system.

Many years ago we had renters insurance with State Farm. We no longer rent, so we don't need it anymore. I never needed it. We paid $10/month way back then.

Our would have for fire. I think flood would be like flood insurance on a home and not be included in the policy. Our would help us with temporary housing.

I live three houses from the beach. We've never had water in our place but i've been concerned about it recently. Also, we had a young family at church who had a fire and no renters insurance. It took a good deal of assistance to get them just the basic essentials. You'd be amazed at what you have. Just think about all the kitchen pots, pans and appliances.
