DME/buses only here. We stay on property. No need for us to spend more to rent a car when the onsite transportation does the job for us.

I live 2 hours away so I've always just had my car but if I was flying in I would definitely rent a car. It is nice to have my own transportation and not be at the mercy of Disney transportation. It also comes in great if you want to go somewhere outside of Disney

we're lazy.. we just use the transportation provided. 99% of the time we aren't in any big rush to get anywhere so the buses work just fine for our needs.

I voted "Use DME and buses"

You see, one of the last things I want to worry about while at WDW is driving. I love the feeling that Disney is one GIANT all inclusive resort. Once we land in Orlando, all of the transportation is taken care of, meals are taken care of (we're on the DDP), luggage shows up in your room...

...all we need to think about is having fun!!!

I don't want to worry about how to get somewhere, navigating morning traffic, driving back to our resort when I'm tired...

We ALWAYS use DME & resort transportation (buses/monorails/boats.) We just prefer to be in the Disney "bubble" when we're there. We let Disney worry about getting us from place to place.

Not having to drive is one of the top three reasons I choose a WDW vacation. I can't imagine going on a vacation to relax and have fun, and voluntarily adding the stress and headache of driving - especially on unfamiliar highways!

our last visit we drove to Disney, but parked the car and took the buses. you meet interesting people on the bus. We were there when catrina was raising havoc and we met a lovely family who had to leave there house, they came to Disney and had no way of contacting family-so would have no idea what they were going home to--but they were safe.

We will be there in Sept. This time just the 2 of us and we will be flying and will be using the buses. It forces us to slow down and enjoy things--and to me that is what it is all about

We rent a car. We like the freedom of being able to go off site if and when we choose. We take the car to all parks except the Magic Kingdom and it makes dining reservations at resorts less hassle.

We are from the UK and have been often enough that we can navigate most places without GPS now :)

It depends. If we get a good deal on a rental, we rent. If not, we use DME and buses/monorails/boats.

We also rent if we have some specific place we want to go. Our trip in august may be one of those occasions. We winter on the Gulf Coast and may take a day to go check on the house. Looking at rental fees it sometimes makes just as much sense to rent for a week as to rent for 2 days. We also always stay DVC so having a car allows for trips to the store for supplies - snacks and adult beverages mainly. We also go to the outlets if we have a car. While at the world we generally only use it for going to water parks. The rest of the time we take the bus.

We almost always rent a car. I just love the freedom that you have - and not having to wait on a bus that might be standing room only. :confused3 WDW is so well marked that it is a breeze getting from hotel to park, or park to park. We love having the freedom to come and go as we choose and to leave a park and head directly to DTD or one of the waterparks is such a time saver! :cheer2:

I'd like to try it with a rental car but when I suggested it to DBF, he said "but I like not having to drive and I like Disney transportation." Okay then. I'll plan around it.

We rent a car. I am an ECV user and I just wouldn't want to hassle with the busses and the people who become frustrated when an ECV user holds them up. I tried using WDW transport once and I just couldn't stand the comments I overheard. It made me so sad and I felt so conspicuous.

Over 30+ stays under my belt...since '99. I have always been a huge advocate of using Disney transportation. BUT...after my last few trips, I'm beginning to head to the other camp!!!
The buses have been less and less dependable. Yes, they come, eventually. I have been able to get on a bus, but then had to get off due to some 'people' not being able to comprehend the 'move to the back of the bus' statement! I am tired of being glared at by others for not giving up my seat when they feel that I should give it to them. I am tired of large groups getting on with an ECV person. I do NOT begrudge that person the ability to board the bus before me. But I do get annoyed when I've been standing there, waiting for 25 mins, and they just walk up and are able to all get on that bus..and I'm left standing, waiting for another bus!! Yes, that happened a week ago.
I always enjoyed using the buses. But not lately. Now, I think that the idea of my own car isn't so out of the question. It would all depend on the rate I got. I've driven in the WDW area before, I know it moderately well. I don't love driving in that area simply because of all those that speed around with no idea where they are going and then make last minute judgement calls when they see the exit they 'think' they want!!!

Maybe I'm still grumpy from my transportation woes of a week ago. I don't know. But I do know that I was getting really jealous of those who had rental cars!!!

Although it's nice when I'm traveling on business to jump on pre-arranged transportation, I much prefer to have my own car on vacation. We tried DME on our 2nd trip to WDW while staying at CSR. We like to come and go, whenever and wherever, and love that we have our own space on our way there and back.

So it's a little extra money, but for us, very well worth it.

Option 3, drive our own car. Honestly, navigating around Disney is a piece of cake. Rush hour traffic near any major metro area is 1000 times worse. If you can back that, you've got it made.

I like the freedom to be able to come and go with the rental car. Go get groceries, go to the outlets, I usually drive to DTD and AK. I hate waiting for busses and then having to stand. I did a solo trip in March, I was going to do DME and forget the car but at the last minute I got a car because the weather was cold and I wanted to be free to go to the outlets if I wanted.

We get a car service to take us from MCO to our resort because we have three small children and like to have our bags with us when we arrive at our resort.

We use DME and Disney buses while staying on site. During a 10 day stay at POFQ we only had one minor problem with the buses but overall the buses were plenty and I never spent more than 10 minutes waiting for a bus.

We do "other". We drive to WDW. We normally leave the car in the parking lot and use Disney Transportation. If my DH flies he takes DME. How much we use our car depends on where we are staying and where we are going that trip. We drive off property obviously and have places we like to go in the Orlando area. But on property we find the buses the easiest way around.
