Do you remember ?

My dad took us to this little restaurant called Sambos a few times when we would go out of town....I was little......really little, so I dont remember what city or state this was in. But I remember thinking of the jungle book when looking at the menu.

The very FIRST, sorta, date Denise and I had, we went to Sambo's for a late night meal. !!
They had a absolutely AWESOME tuna melt sandwich,:thumbsup2

Oh how I loved Sambo's!!! They had the BEST Philly sandwiches. Every year the graduating class would kidnap Sambo from in front of the restaurant and take him to school. He'd return home a few days later.

And Sambo's was a pretty big chain, had stores all over,,,it was really sad, they went under all at once. I understand that there were too much corporate dipping into the money,:confused3

Gals and Guys---Ya just gotta git it right-----YO ADRIEN ! ! ! !

There is no Best Philly Sandwich. Since I am older than dirt, I spent the majority of my formative years in PHILLY. There is no Best Philly Sandwich.

Boy I picked a great word, formative. I hope it's the right word.

You get 2 choices.

A) The Best Philly Soft Pretzel.

B) The Best Philly Cheese Steak

John (aka Rocky--YO Adrien)

Denny--No, we are not a fossils. A better way to look at it.

When I was a young chap, our house was always cold in the winter.

Our heat source was coal.

Did your house have a 'coal bin' (what's that, you say ???)

john

Coal bin! We use to play in our coal bin. Of course I grew up in an anthracite mining area. We used cardboard refrigerator boxes, and would slide down the culm banks. We didn't use road salt during a snow storm, the coal furnace provided ashes that all of the neighbors spread on the snow covered streets so our cars could drive up and down the hills of our town.

Absolutely true... we really did walk up hill both ways when going to school and coming home. Going to school we walked down one hill, continued through town, and then walked up a hill where the school was located. Leaving school we walked down one hill, and back up another hill to our house!

When I went to college in Philadelphia, I didn't have to deal with hills. However, I did learn the finer things in life... real cheesesteaks (wit & wiz) & soft pretzels!

College in Philly---Cheese steaks/soft pretzels !!!!!!!!

A test for you. HILLS.

I lived in Roxborough and went to grade school in Manayunk. The big bike race goes up the WALL. I walked up and down (4x a day) that hill for 8 years. Why 4x ??? We had to go home for lunch.

I hope you had your cheese steak at D'Alesandro's. I grew up with the family.
john

Hills? ...Department store!

Pat Croce, former 76ers president/owner, now owns a pirate museum and bar in Key West. Rumor has it that he flies in fresh bread from Philly each day for "authentic Philly Cheesesteaks".

:thumbsup2

plutospup---This is getting scarey ! ! ! Are you my brother in disguise ??????

My wife had her rotator cuff (after surgery) rehabed at Croce's off of City Line Ave. Year 89 or 90.

Her surgeon was a Dr. McPhillamey. He was the chief orthopedic guy for the 76ers.

I forgot to add in my prior post. If it ain't an Amoroso Roll----It ain't a Philly Cheese steak.

YOOOOOO Adrien ! ! !

john

Amoroso rolls!!! That's what Croce flies in from Philly for his Key West Cheese Steaks! For the life of me I couldn't remember that name until you mentioned it. I guess I've been away too long. Aside from our annual visit to LaSalle for District swimming I don't get to Philly too often.

Brother in disguise? Only the Shadow knows!

When life was simple and we didn't have a care in the world?
As I grow older I've learned that despite our worries, the world will continue to spin.
