Do you remember Woolworth?

By the time I was a kid, Woolworth wasn't as ubiquitous as it had been, but we did have one in one of our shopping malls. I can remember being in it a few times, but not a lot specific. I do think it had a lunch counter though. That mall didn't really have a food court as was common, just a lot of various "autonomous units for mid-mall snacking."

Ours was downtown, once the Mall opened and all the big downtown stores moved to it.... Woolworth didn't last long.

Dining out wasn't that big of a thing back then and there were very few options....
Ours was downtown too. All the department stores were located downtown, and it was a special trip to go there. Then the malls started and ended all that.

The last one I was in was last summer in Asheville, NC. It's an art gallery now, but the lunch counter is still there. It was very nostalgic going into it. Unfortunately, we had had brunch earlier that day and we weren't hungry enough to stop for a milkshake.

From what I understand, it survived the flooding.

I used to go to two different Woolworth's stores. One was in downtown Scranton and the other was in Keyser Valley, Scranton. Gramma would take me to the lunch counter when we were alone together.

We also had a McCrory's in downtown Scranton.

I remember that store. There was one at Parkway Plaza in Maumee, Ohio. It's now a Dollar Tree. I took these pictures yesterday.20250804_173711_copy_1000x750_copy_500x375.jpg20250804_173758_copy_1000x750_copy_500x375.jpg20250804_173813_copy_1000x750_1_copy_500x375.jpg20250804_173813_copy_1000x750_1_copy_500x375.jpg

When my mom would go shopping at the department store my dad and I used to go to Woolworth and buying things there was a lot of fun and I wonder if any of you remember visiting Woolworth? I would buy toys there and my mom would buy Christmas decor there too and they even had music and movies there too and Mom would find classic movies with Spencer Tracy and John Wayne there as well. And some Woolworth's even had their own restaurants and they had good food. It's a shame that Woolworth closed in the 90's because they were neat stores and you can't find variety stores like Woolworth today and stores like Woolworth should make a big comeback today
Of course!
