Do you remember GM ride?

WDW used to have a GM ride - I think it was called World of Motion. It had blue cars that resemble the Journey into Imagination red ones. I remember the facade was silver and orange. I know it's silly but I've been racking my brain for years thinking I remember this ride and where it was. Was it in the MK where Buzz is now? Was it a GM ride? Delta's was Horizon at EPCOT, right?

I thought someone might remember.

Yes, there was a ride at Epcot Center called "World of Motion" which was sponsored by GM. It was a series of scenes depicting milestones in transportation history. It was located where the current Test Track ride is at Epcot. It was one of my favorite Disney dark rides.

I think I remember that ride! I remember something Delta-related and at one part of the ride going through a room that projected clouds and a sky and such that was very neat (like flying) -- although I'm sure not in the way Soarin' does (haven't been on that yet.)

The Delta ride you are thinking about is probably Dreamflight, which was in the MK where Buzz is now.

World of Motion was in the same round building where Test Track is now. Unlike Horizons, they didn't tear down the building shell.

Horizons was sponsored by General Electric (if you can dream it, then you can do it...)

Oh man ! do remember that ride, it was pretty cool. I also remember Dreamflight as well, you walked through a very brightly colored walkway I think.

There is some confusion, yes GM did sponsor World of Motion and part of the ride did have large screens that surround you, but the other attraction sponsored by Delta WAS in the Magic Kingdom, it was called Dream Flight, then Take Flight....and before that it was "If You Had Wings" and sponsored by Eastern (remember them?). The reason for your confusion is this attraction also had the large surround screens in it at least in the Dream Flight era, not sure about when it was "If You Had Wings".

BTW, I found a wonderful site for DVD's of old attractions: http://www.extinct-attractions-club.com

ChrisFL, I think you got part of the way there but has some still-confusing info in your post.

I'll give it a try. The space now occupied by Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin was originally "If you Had Wings" from 1972 to 1987, and sponsored by Eastern. Without a sponsor, it was renamed "If you Could Fly" unitl 1989, when Delta took it over as "Dream Flight." Again without sponsorship (I believe) in 1996, it was renamed "Take Flight." This attraction did have the "high speed room" which still exists in the Buzz attractions. Now, it is basically black, with a few spaceships flying around. It comes right after the red "vortex" room. Back during the former attraction days, the screen displayed high speed vehicles and made you feel as if you were travelling very fast.

I don't recall World of Motion having big screens. But, I do remember the OmniMax screens in Horizons. Is my memory fading?

I loved the flight ride back in the 70's as a little kid. Good old eastern airlines.

Yes, World of Motion had those screens, and if Im not mistaken there were actually 2 in the ride...one near the beginning and one near the end...the one near the end was a futuristic one with what looked to me like battling spacehips, then changed to some futuristic CGI of computer chips and stuff.

BTW, sorry for my post, I re-read it and saw how badly I wrote it, gotta stop trying to do quick replies at work ;)

The computer chip CGI & spaceship was part of Horizons. Horizons was also the ride that let the guest chose their own "ending" sequence through the desert, underwater or in space.

The end of World of Motion was where you'd look to the left, and using reflections similar to the hitch hiking ghosts in Haunted Mansion, you'd see that your blue ride vehicle, with you inside, was being reflected like you were in a very futuristic car.

ChrisFL, I did some hard thinking about it, and I now know what you might be referring to. In WoM, right after the "invention of the wheel" scene, you went through a room that was patterned after Dreamflight's "speedroom". I can remember images of all sorts of wheels moving around you. It was right before the Egyptian room. Just after that were several big screens, one depicted Da Vinci's flying aparatus. I may be mixing up scenes a bit, but I do remember the tunnel room that was extremely similar to that in Dreamflight.

Man, I'd love the chance to go through WoM and Horizons a few more times.

While yes there was computer chips in Horizons, those were actual chips, and the ending sequence was all real models, no CG involved.

In WoM, it was right before you go to the scale model of a futuristic city, and then AFTER that is where you see your ride vehicle reflected to a futuristic car.

I went to EPCOT several times through my childhood since my father helped to open the place, so I've got a good idea of what was in the rides.

World of Motion incorporated the best, by some distance (no pun intended) Audio Animatronics technology in WDW. It was funny, informative, and didn't take itself too seriously; it's what Disney did best.

Well-at least I got the chance to do WOM and Horizons many times in previous trips. Now-no new visitors can ever see those rides, TOO, TOO bad.
I'll grudgingly get on Test Track, but when I do, I always think what a great attraction it USED to be.

For those of you waning nostalgic, get the 2 disc CD currently on sale @ WDW....The Happiest Celebration on Earth".

It has among others:
The old song from the Energy pavillion,
It's Fun to be Free from WOM,
Kitchen Kaberet excerpts from the Land,
Magic Journeys and Making Memories from Imagination
and New Horizons from Horizons

--along with Tomorrow's Child from "old" Spaceship Earth. Got that CD just as soon as it was available!!!
