We were just discussing "old" candy during hockey practice on Sunday. You know... kids practice, we sit on our butts drinking hot chocolate while discussing candy. I digress... How about zagnut bars?

those are called "Buttons" and they are made by NECCO..I work there. We also make the NECCO wafers and Skybars, the 'special" Milkyway bars and Snickers. We also do the Clark bars! I have about 6 dozen of them all! Do ya need me to ship any out!?? lol

I'll skip on the Dots/Buttons but I like the Milkyway bars.

I also loved the Chunky bars, Milkduds, Goobers and Cracker Jacks and pink popcorn..(I know not really candy).

I still buy Chuckles in the 5 slice pack too. The imitation brands in a bag just aren't the same.

I have always like Chuckles and I believe they are still available, or at least they were a few years ago. In fact, I seem to remember a thread about them not too long ago.

I guess you might call it a quirk, but I always had a particular order I would eat them in. Yellow, Green, Orange, Red, and the black I saved for last. Any shrinks out there have a take on that?

Would I be dating myself if I mentioned "penny candy?" When I was a kid (a couple of decades ago...) we had a neighborhood store, the kind with the wooden front porch, that had an oak display case with several shelves of loose candy. They were generaly a penny a piece and some you could get two for a penny. You pressed your nose to the glass and picked out what you wanted while the store owner placed each piece in a little paper bag (bare-handed, of course). We usually got the money from bottle returns at 2 cents for small bottles and 5 cents for quarts. Regular candy bars were a nickel. A bottle of soda to wash it all down with was 10 cents, but you got 2 cents back for the empty bottle and that went for a couple more pieces of candy.

A wagonful of empty bottles was always good for a candy pig-out and it helped keep the neighborhood clean.

There was no love for the Chuckles in our house... even the name annoyed us! If I got any for Halloween, I'd put them in my brother's bag and then when he found them, he'd sneak them back into my bag. I would open my bag to get some m&m's or a Hersheys and there would be 15 packs of Chuckles in there. It was kind of a joke to see who would be stuck with the darn things!

To the poster who said BB Bats, I'm right there with you! Loved the chocolate and banana ones!
We also loved Milkshake candy bars. We'd put them in the freezer in the summer - so good!

Penny candy is one of my fondest childhood memories!

My DH loves them and buys a package everytime we eat at Cracker Barrell. They have alot of "old time" candy in their store.

Anyone remember Indian Head Pumpkin Seeds? Those are still made also, but are extremely hard to find. Very, very salty.

Loved penny candy especially swedish fish(I would eat the yellow then the green then the red then the orange) for a penny

Penny candy in my area include red/black licorice whips(the long single strand) for 1c,gobstoppers 5c and I want to say Jolly Rancher sticks(not sure if this was who made them) they were about 5 inches long and an inch and a half wide and had flavors like grape(my fav) and watermelon and were 10c each and gummy bears were 1c each

Oh and the Indian Head pumpkin seeds were 5c each.

I also miss Charleston Chews-they had chocolate(#1),strawberry and white--loved putting them in the freezer and breaking them into pieces

I miss Choco-Lite bars. I have tried the Aero bar and it isn't the same.

Charleston Chews are still around though. I have some in the leftover Halloween candy (although it is only chocolate).

They are still around. I just bought some recently. They are so good. We have a big candy store near us that carries most of the old time penny candy. Of course none of it is anywhere near a penny now!

I think they still make the candy cigarettes. Another one I liked as a kid that is still made are Pixie Stixs. And of course, who could forget Wax Bottles!
