We use paper plates during football season when nearly every day brings a practice or game - my son is on one team and my daughter cheers for another so from mid-August to early-November things are a little nuts meal-wise. I've also been known to use them when we have a full house. Memorial Day weekend, for example, we had 13 people so breakfast and lunch were on paper or I would never have got out of the kitchen.

Even so, I try to minimize their use. I don't mind using paper plates as a tool to make life easier from time to time but I don't see how constant use is a good thing or something of which to be proud.

Nope. Waste of money and bad for the enviroment. Unless something really topsy-turvey is going on (new birth, death or serious illness, just moved in and still un-packing) no one in my extended family uses paper plates, even for parties.

I don't judge those that choose to do it, but I'll admit it does make me scratch my head a bit.

I agree, we do the same. No disposable plates or cups here.

This is an old thread.......

Anyways, we use paper plates all the time. It just makes clean-up go faster and easier, and we do have a dish washer, but we usually only run it once a week. It's just the two of us now.

why is a post almost 1 1/2 years old resurfacing TODAY?

I was wondering the same but I am in shock of all the paper plate users. I find that it is horrible for the environment. Even if they are biodegradable it takes a long time to regrow a tree, it takes energy to make the plates and they still take up a lot of space in the landfill. Didn't anyone here do that activity about the trash in Epcot Innovations?

We were at my sisters and her husband didn't want to wash plates and kept pushing the paper. It took a lot of power not to complain and lecture about the environement. On top of the environment, I just don't like eating off of paper. The plates get soggy and I find it harder to eat off them. When we had a steak dinner I finally voiced my opinion about how I would prefer not to have to cut a steak on paper, (although I hope it didn't come out as snotty as that sounded) My sister agreed with me.

Ok, I will stop judging now. I can only control my own behaviors. Not others. :hippie:

Use paper plates everyday and have for over 20 years. Hate washing dishes, and just toss these in the thrash and .... I have a clean plate.

I hate to wash dishes. I bought one of those new fangled dishwashers.;) We use very few paper dishes each year. We will for a BBQ but other wise we use real dishes.

You know with all the bbq's going on this is a pressing subject:rotfl:

LOL. Always makes me laugh to see a post come up and as I'm reading it I think "I've read all this before" so I look at the date and see how old it is.

Wow-this thread has been enlightening. I always use regular plates. Had no idea paper plates were so popular.

I know this thread is old but have to say I also never knew paper plates were so popular. It's crazy to me that some people use these everyday. I only buy them once a year or so for a kids birthday party. I couldn't imagine serving people on a paper plate since I hate eating on them so much. I just use the dishwasher. I can see using them if there was a big outdoor BBQ or something or to go camping but that's it :confused3
