DH gives out Gifts for Christmas to his Contractors, usually in the form of a GC for a couple of hundred $ each to a store personalized for them;such as boaters world etc, just to say thanks for sending work my way.

He also gives a cash bonus to subcontractors for taking the work off his hands that he otherwise wouldn't be able to keep up with. He usually gives them around $2500 each. There are approx. 6 subs each year.

I was wondering if that seems generous or stingy, so I thought maybe if I posted this thread I would see how my DIS friends fare when it comes to a bonus!

I get one for the first time this year. It's only a couple hundred but hey, it's a bonus!!!!!

My dh gets one from his employer every year, it is based on how much money the company makes during the year.

I have worked for a couple of companies that gave bonuses....

One company gave a Christmas bonus of 1% of each employee's annual salary. Not bad... It was not a big company....about 200 employees...

The last company I worked for - it was a pretty small company - the owner would give each employee a $100 dollar bill.

Now, I have only been working for my present company a few months. I am not sure if they give any kind of Christmas bonus whatsoever. And I think it might be a little tacky to ask. I'll just wait and see...

Nope.

I work in the corporate offices of a fairly large company. We have about 1200 people in corporate. Only higher level managers and above get cash bonuses. We do get a profit sharing, but that goes directly into the retirement plan they maintain for each employee. It is usually about 2-4% of your annual salary. We also get a Christmas luncheon, but I would rather have that money instead....

DH gets a Christmas bonus from work. It's usually 3% of what he's made for the year. He also gets a profit sharing bonus in the spring, too.

I work for a large cooperation with headquarters in Europe. We don't get Christmas bonuses. They give us turkeys at Thankgiving and we have a very nice Christmas luncheon at an upscale resort.

My husband has his own law practice, and he usually does give Christmas bonuses to his staff, usually in the $400-$600 range. This year, however, since he's currently only staffed with one, and she's fantastic, I think he's going to give her a large raise and some time off in between Christmas and New Years because he's going to be on vacation during that time.

He does give "Thank you" gift certificates throughout the year, usually to a local shopping mall. He also routinely takes his staff out to lunch and they will also go for an occasional happy hour at the end of the day as well.

Your husband's gifts sounds very generous - not stingy at all!

DH is one of only 2 employees and he gets one every year. He got $250 the first year and $500 the last few. Last year he got $650.

I didn't get one the first 2 years I worked here (small company 7 employees when I started, 17 now), but the next year I got $200 and last year I got $1500. I think that my boss is now going to set me up on a profit sharing/incentive plan for next year. hoping to get the same as I got last year for this year though. Here's to hoping :drinking1

Heck no. And if I did get a bonus I think I'd pass out from shock! The day we get a bonus is the day hell freezes over!

Yes - husband works for large company. Bonuses are based on perfomance - both company and individual. This year he got about 25% of his salary in cash and stock options.

We get year end bonuses, they're not officially "holiday" bonuses, though. Especially DW's, since hers is based on fiscal year, not calendar year, so she gets hers in October. :)

Until I came to work for the company I now work for I would get at least 1/2 months salary, now as the person above has so stated that is the case. We don't get raises either. I am looking for something new. I don't know how a company can think that they can not offer ee's even a small COL raise. But hey I have a job better than not. :sunny:

This is how I feel about holiday/year end bonuses too!!!

I work in a small law firm for two attorneys and only the attorney who owns the place gets any kind of bonus and it's a nice one - I know because I do everything!!!

We have received a bonus of 1-2% of our salaries for the last seven years, but were informed last week that no one except the CFO (my boss) would get a bonus. Hope the give him a huge one because he is driving our once profitable company towards bankruptcy quickly.

My dh gets a bonus, usually around $1500. As a firefighter, he doesn't get paid extra for holidays, so they make it up to the guys by giving them the "bonus" at the end of the year.

I get about 10% on my annual salary. It helps with the Christmas bills.

DH got a nice bonus last year and hopes to get another this year. On year when he worked for Emerson they gave all the employees a book on the history of the company. Everybody thought that was the worse holiday gift ever!

The organization gives us $25 gift certificates to our choice of grocery stores or specialty food store (DH and I always pick the speciality food store as we usually buy our Christmas Eve or Christmas dinner there).

In addition, my boss usually gives me around a $50 gift certificate to a restaurant.

This year I'll be getting one of our secretaries something for Christmas as a thanks for really helping me out.

I do actually get a bonus. I am with a new company and I get about 30% of my annual salary...I was floored to say the least when I was told. I actually started crying in front of my boss when he told me....he actually was like what's wrong are you not happy????....I was like I can't believe it, I have never gotten anything like that before...

guess I won't be complaining anymore when he askes me to cut back a day on my vacation like he did a few months back.
